Heard SSO do this last night (cond. Pinchas Steinberg) and googled for a reprise, nice to find a neighbour's personal post. ... honesty compels me to report that SSO was better than SSSCO by a mile but doesn't stop me appreciating your efforts. Excellent trumpet solo and kudos to the conductor for acknowledging.
Either "Mute" (and this can be expanded upon with "Straight mute" or "Cup mute" or "harmon Mute" (or a few other types less common) ) or to be all clever and multi-linguistic you can use "Sordino" or it's abbreviation "Sord." - the Germans use Mit Dampfer (with mute) and Ohne Dampfer (Discard/remove mute)
English - to remove mute would be "Open" and I forget the italian/french term for removing mute at the moment.
A couple of things...first, good job. Second, try using 4th valve instead of 1st for the concert B grace notes (D on picc). The partials are much farther apart with the 4th valve, so you won't accidentally go to concert G (Bb on picc). The second trumpet could've played out a WHOLE lot more...it would've allowed you to lay back and not sound so "naked." I would love to hear you play it at the typical slower tempo. I'm sure it would sound wonderful.
Yeh I agree was a touch fast (like near the extent of how fast I could play it) Slower would have sounded better imo, but that's what the conductor put down so what can ya do :P Good comment on the 4th valve, I don't use it nearly enough.
I've personally played this piece myself...trumpet part too...and its a toughy...good job here though...the conductor took the piece a little fast,so i think it may have clumped your notes together...either that or may just need some fine tuning. the symphony isnt very good though....Im only 18 and i play with kids my age and we kick the crap out of these guys...go see them sometime...i aged out but Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
If it's the note Im thinking of, we had a long discussion about that and after some arguement with conductor and 2nd trumpet we finally agreed to play the Natural instead of the Sharp. If it's the one I just accidently misarticulated then... "Damn" is all I can say to that one :P
Who in their right mind would ever play this on C trumpet? It's not the range...it's the timbre. Plus, you'll never see any of the major orchestral trumpeters playing it on C...Vosburgh - no, Chuck Lirette - no, Bud - no, Phil Smith - no, Manny - no, etc. Also, some conductors like the F#; some like the Fx. Personally, I agree with you. I like the Fx. However, many European groups play F#.
The note he played is what Mussorgsky wrote, Ravel changed it for no apparent reason. Also, Freddy, on C you would have to do a lip flexibility to get the first two grace notes of each of the first two lines of the solo. Not practical for a long muted solo with no recovery time.

This is a difficult, because almost plays exactly the same. You can hear that theyre not profressional. Its not all exactly the same.

Nice piece. How to write MUTE to show that the trumpet should have MUTE in normal music score? Thanks beforehand

In most scores, it'll probably say "Con sordini" which means "with silencer," I believe.

ah yes, and it's reverse. Sans Sordini

Also, great job for only being in a community orchestra.
