Shyam Benegal is a gifted director,I saw most of his parallel masterstrokes movies.A truly gifted hyderabadi.Undoubtly he is next to satyajit ray.Unfortunately the oscar panel is headed by westerners .I strongly believe he should have give an oscar for his previous work on parallel cinema.

shyam benegal is a great great director. i loved all his work. he is so above and beyond this current circus that is called bollywood now a days. Watch " Sardari begum", " Mommo" and " Zubaida" . absolutely great films and the first real Trilogy of bollywood. all these women were real life characters and related to each other. BUt shyam never really exposed their identies.
