i still don't understand why this band hasn't got the recognition it deserves!!! i uploaded this tune which for some reason isn't even on youtube, of the love in your eye /watch?v=tJv3cgn0Wxc my favourite :D
im not sure if you can hear it on this one but on my copy of this song at the start someone says "we need some more drugs" HAHA!!! its so feint you need full volume :)
Oh the memories....a handful of shrooms and Caravan or Gong on the stereo. Bliss. Jesus H. I should be past all this....I'm 40 next year and now I'm thinking of trudging around soggy fields in October looking for fungus. :)
Just got back to Australia after a trip to the UK, I've been a fan of "Caravan" for years, imagine my surprise to find out that Richard the drummer is my cousin! His mother was my father's sister (fractured family on my side). Richard and I have never met, Hi Richard.
Had a couple of Caravan albums as a kid, but hadn't played them for years. 30 years and more on it's finally hit home just how brilliant a band they were. Great songs, musicianship and razor sharp lyrics. Always associated them with Camel, same label and I think one of the Sinclairs played for both. But Caravan's music is so much richer and has aged so much better. Thanks so much for the upload, h4z4, this is absolutely outstanding...
top 100 cool track...the innocence of it all is a good trip..the piano is nice..magic mushroom days..must be old hippy.........the pictures are rubbish
some of my pics from that trip are on flickr. type 'budget bus 1975' into the search and look for pics by 'budgetbus75'. click one of those, then click my photostream. enjoy :-)
@routeoz those pics are astounding! I wish I had a time machine to experience it :) "Land of Grey and Pink" is great travel music, especially this title track. I'm working on a worthy cover version.
@bayerischman People here from the age 13 to over 60? Just shows that good music appeal to all ages of people. And that lovely organ solo in there-great stuff from the "c'mon smoke some funny stuff early 70s....
I got my hands on this album in a charity shop at the weekend. OMG what have I been missing all these years? Absolutely timeless! Is it just me or can I hear echoes of Caravan in Julian Cope's solo work?
Drummer Richard useto be the landlord of The Walnut Tree, Aldington. Think Caravan members played there once. I now live in New Zealand. happy days in Blighty..... P
The drummer is now the landlord of the Cricketer's pub in Canterbury. Not a bad boozer as it happens, they seem to look after their beer. On the wall are a couple of gold discs.
38 but look 25!! anyone got anything from "If i could do it all over again i'd do it all over you?" fab tunes especially end of sides of LP. I had awesome time once when listening to it with some hippy chick in a haze of dope. it was back in mists (smokes surely, ed) of time....
this youtube thing is a bit like prospecting for gold. you keep searching, and get mainly disappointed/disillusioned. But still keep going cos you are a music junkie! This then, upturned, listened to as I type this, is the real thing. pure brilliance.
I'm a Camel fan, turned on to Richard's beautiful singing voice from the 'Breathless' album. This is GREAT stuff - Lacking only (if you're into Camel) in Andy Latimer's unbeatable guitar work. OMG, I guess I have to find and buy a complete back catalogue from Caravan now too?... Lovely, melodic stuff!
I'm 23 years old and I LOVE old prog! Give me Camel, Caravan, ELP, King Crimson, Spirit and all the other wonderful bands from the early seventies and I'll be a happy boy!
Let's do what we can to spread the word of seventies prog so it will never be forgotten!
You are not alone at all, the early Caravan and Soft Machine and Gong, they are so great. I hate ELP but the early band of Emerson called The Nice is a wonderful masterpiece
The album 'In the land of grey and pink' is one of my favorites. My french girl makes love with me for the first time in june 76 listening at this song, golf girl, nine feet under, etc ... We could listen this song time after time with so much pleasure. I remember her pale blue eyes, her smile and her 'Jicky de Guerlain' perfume. Cool memories ...
Oh yeah... but I don't give much thought... This song features THE BEST guitar solo I have ever heard. And I have heard a lot. I have listened to a myriad of metal shredders and rock virtuoso guitarists, but this solo is the most unique sounding and passionate ever!
...except it's NOT a guitar solo, mate. It's an organ ( probably Hammond thru a fuzz pedal of some sort ). It is however a wonderful song from one of THE great bands of the 70s. The Show Of Our Lives is even better.
Not released as a single in Holland...a missed chance. If they did release this song as a single in Holland I would have known the band Caravan many years earlier.
The only single of Caravan that just reached the charts in Holland was "Who do you think you are" (a 7/8 song reaching the charts :-0 ).
I´m so glad my dad raised me with caravan!! Thanks for sharing this with me. I still love to listen to the music. Brings back some great memories....like chilliwack also does to me...
