  • why doesn't he just put the capo on the first fret with standard tuning?

  • I love how he does vibrato by moving the whole body.

  • amazing!

  • WIN

  • This piece truly shows the beauty of the guitar. It is one of the most emotional and relaxing piece I've ever listened to.

  • Piece of art..

  • go masa

  • Masa San-thankyou for always being a great inspiration :)

  • I'd really love that song if the title was'nt Tears in Heaven!!

The fact that it's a cover of that famous song made by Mr Clapton....I have to say that I don't like this song!!! Tears in heaven is a damn powerful song.......so deep.......no deepness or power in that version......the soul of the song is dead so we only hear notes!!

I know some of you guys will you hate me to death....i'm a fingerpicker......I love music!!

But this.......is too much for me to handle!

  • Epic ending chord I must say!!

  • it's 1/2 step + capo 2nd freth...

  • @hhpa2005 ... so... capo 1st fret why not?

  • HIs playing the guitar with his soul... Nice one!

  • the original will always say more to me, but this is beautiful none the less :)

  • A legendary shirt!

  • @MrFutureSaga i cant really see the headstock too well but the logo looks like one Tim McKnights custom guitars

  • Strange how Sungha Jung has more views XD

  • @higofyp

    @gaiolinn

I think i saw that article before too...anyways Masa is not some amateur but a very professional guitarist and quite well known among the fingerstyle circuit so i think he would have probably gotten Eric's permission beforehand

  • @gaiolinn

    @higofyp

Yeah i saw that article before too...

  • Sungha Jung in 50 years...

  • @Ctran301 I bet he would be even better, lol.

  • @MrFutureSaga Extremely likely lol

  • Not that it isn't good but..somethings just should remain unchanged.

This song is one of those things.

It's a way too personal song to b modified.

I'd be offended if I was Eric Clapton to be honest.

  • @gaiolinn Actually Eric loved this version of it, as beautiful as the original is, I prefer this one.

  • @higofyp Could you show me the article saying so please?

  • @gaiolinn It was in a newspaper unfortunately, I'm terribly sorry to disappoint.

  • good song...good arrangement

  • he must get some seriuosly asian pussy

  • EBS?? Thats where Jason Mraz performed!

  • The Asian Clapton!!!!

  • GOLD STRINGS.

  • He plays aufully good musics, but he is unnamed in Japan.

  • @Libed24 Me too, can you send me please

  • he is the owner of this version, sungha just copy and play

  • this is so beautiful honestly. amazing hands down. you could feel the emotion of the song through all the notes he plays and it brings tears to my eyes for some reason.... but its soooo good!

  • well done..now you become my idol

  • @nittapada ) Tears in heaven - Kongphop Chaimongkhol

  • the 7 dislikes must be from the deaf and hard of hearing.

  • This has so much color, you can tell how much he puts into each note. The way he rearranged this song to his own....leaves me speechless and amazed.

  • tears in heaven...

  • as if tears in heaven is played in the heaven

  • perfect !!!!!! Why is your version not as much viewed as the one of sungha jung ?? I think thats really not fair :(

    ur awesome !

  • Great! never heard this before

  • So beautiful.. I love the way new artists keep reviving the beauty of this song again and again in different ways

  • Amazingly wonderful ! Unforgetable !

  • why does it matter what nationality he is and a persons nationality doesnt make them a good musician, a helluva lotta practice does, and this guy clearly practices shitloads!! just chill out and enjoy this amazing arrangement

  • Impecable.

  • Alot of asians are becoming great guitarists

  • it's because they have perfect pitch, and it comes from the language they speak as well.

  • how does their language help? i'm a guitarist (no where near as good) and just curious

  • The tones they speak in their language. A word that is said in a deep tone will mean something, as if you say the same word in a higher tone it will become a completely different word.

If you don't understand, take the time to research it :)

  • non sense... only applies to chinese and vietnamese... this guy is japanese and the TV station is korean... maybe you should research harder...

  • @MeG0Rawrr i cant believe this comment got 40 thumbs ups lol...damn

  • @MeG0Rawrr "Becoming"? More like "already are."

  • @MeG0Rawrr I still think they have metronoms instead of hearts...

  • @15donagi -__- look at the emotion when masa sumide plays; how can you say this

  • @MeG0Rawrr And a lot of people fail to spell 'a lot' correctly.

  • @MEeG0 Rawrr i guess 6 strings sound better than the 2 string banjo thingy they were all twanging on befor. you know , the one that sounded like a cat got steped on. we are chi-ah neee- eeewe eeees

  • @MeG0Rawrr but they play without a soul exept from Masa Sumide

  • sounds beautiful to me

  • guys its nt off i can bet on tat... dont judge a great player like masa like this by ur comments guys if u r a real musicians feel his music...

  • 1:13 i actually hear a little bit off, but i guess might be due to the off intonation on the fret board when the tuning becomes different ?

  • @danghieu1811

it's not his intonation, it's his playing.

  • tuned down and capo on 2nd fret

  • man this is really heartbreaking...... u can fell the words that are coming from the music it is really so amazing.... and I cant help but listen to it again and again.... its so beautiful that it makes it another piece than the original and makes it unique

  • For this song the guitar is tuned down half a step and it is very much in tune.

  • WTF with the last chord??

  • out of tune my arse, and of course you can use a capo in alternate tunings, lmao, Hianix is right he is using a lot of augmented chords to add his own touch. For a first start off if a guitarist of this calibre, classically trained, thought his guitar was anyway out of tune he would simply retune it, and the a trained human ear is much better at picking up imperfections than even a strobe tuner, which is what a luthier uses to intonate guitars correctl,. they call it perfect pitch

  • ok to all of your that say that his guitar is out of tune...just like to say that the guitar is very much in tune...really in tune...it is not the guitar that is out of tune. It is just that your ear is used to hearing the song in the normal major, minor chords. He is using a lot of Aug, 7flat5,-13,-11, Maj11. The very nature of these chords makes the untrained ear believe that the guitar is not in tune. The guitar is very much in tune...a beautiful cover..enjoy! cheers

  • i also play the guitar but for you to say that hes using aug chords and other examples like sus doesnt justify that its sounds out of tune.. You have great singers in the studio such as mariah carey, christina aguilera, but what do the producers and sound engineers do after they finish recording? they still hear that some vocals are off so they use autotune... its a natural thing to detect if a chord is off pitch slightly.. I have experiences in recording also.. I should know..

  • ehhh i dont think he did standard tuning.. maybe that's why BUT HE STILL PWNS THIS SONG IN GUITAR

  • think about it. He wouldnt use a capo if he wasnt using standard tuning now would he? maybe its the video thats causing it to sound out of tune because analog video tapes stretches. But this doesnt look like its on tape. So therefore he guitar is out of tune. It bothers me a little but the video is still great

  • @raidacaipo his guitar is in fine tune.

  • Comment removed

  • no it isnt.. he probably played a couple of songs before this performance which means he would have to tune the guitar by ear during each break. Im pretty sure he doesnt bring a standard tuning device with him and have time to tune each string to the device.. therefore he does it by ear so its not "fine" tuning but then again hes still a great guitar player.. just because I say his guitar is out of tune everyone thinks that Im saying hes a bad guitar player..

  • @raidacaipo aha, I think we have different definitions of in tune. When I say a solo guitar performer's guitar is in tune, I mean that it's in tune with itself, ie. all the strings are the correct intervals apart. It may not necessarily be tuned to 440. Also, I'm pretty certain that this song is placed in 1/2 step down.

  • @raidacaipo also, I don't know what kind of guitar you play but you shouldn't need to retune after each song (if they're all in the same tuning) on an expensive guitar like he's using.

  • Im just saying that it sounds untuned thats all.. maybe a string is off but when I say its untuned it doesnt mean hes a bad guitarist. Im just saying the tune is off a bit. Ive seen many live performances where the guitarist would have to retune a guitar or at least check it in between songs.. no guitar tuning is in perfect pitch after each song.

  • I've seen the video three times already, and so far I haven't heard anything unpleasant like an untuned chord or anything.

  • Comment removed

  • listen to around 1:11 to 1:13 when he plays Fadd9 .. thats one where it sounds off.. unless hes slightly bending the strings with his fingers which is usually known to happen.

  • That doesn't sound like Fadd9, it sounds more like Fm9+, and I still don't hear any untuned string.

  • yes you are right

  • I believe his high E or B string is slightly out of tune..

  • People have flamed you with thumbs down :(

I agree with you though. so many of these songs have altered tunings.

  • Really makes me love this song more than i loved it before...

  • does any one know where i could get tabs for this?

  • search on utube "masa sumide tears in heaven cover with tabs" i did that and found a video with a download link to the tabs but u need guitar pro software to open the tabs.

  • ultimate-guitar

  • Actual tuning is Half step down (all strings go down one "fret", so E becomes E flat) and the capo is on the 2nd fret. However, instead of distorting your guitar's tuning, you can simply put the capo on the first fret, although I like playing it with regular tuning.

  • Epic!!!!!!

  • 新鮮なアレンジ

  • what's the tuning of the guitar??

    can anyone help me?

    thanks! :]

  • Half step down and capo on 2nd fret.

  • thank you so much!

    :D

  • it can be played on regular tuning....

you can capo 1st if u wish.

  • It's called a capo. It's to raise the tuning of the guitar.

  • whats the black thing they have in the guitar in the whole thing... i see alot of acoustic guitarist have...

  • Its something you put on the strings .. Its like tuning up to F...

I don't know how to explain it in English..

    LOL :P

  • r u talking about capo?

  • what kind of humidifier is he using?

  • Friend you know where I can obtain the tab of this song

  • Go to Sungha's video and try to learn it by watching him playing..

    Thats what I did.. :D

  • wait so did u learn all of the song from him i tried but it was hard

  • The video of Sungha Jung really helped me with this. I really offer you to go and watch it a couple of times or maybe more and then start playing like he does in his video. Its a great way to learn.

    Good luck man!

  • sweet, my version is unplugged compared to this. I've heard a few others on youtube who have maastered this version eg SunghaJung (If thats spelled right) 5*

  • but they can never play as 'soulful' as this

  • very good

  • Dang by the time Im this good, these great artist such as Masa, Kotaro, Emmanuel may already pass to thee other side.

  • trying to learn this...its very hard especially when i pick only with my index finger and my thumb

  • I play this one!

    Very nice cover..

But why does he use the bridge?

It sounds realy great without it either..

  • its an albert mueller guitar, extremely expensive, since they are all custom made, a few k of euros for one...

  • I am speechless...its so sweet

  • he celebrates every single note of this piece, I am totally in awe.. magnificent cover!

  • Great! What kind of guitar is that???

  • Comment removed

  • about the tuning, yes it's on standard tuning but it's been downtuned and then a capo is put on the second so its standard tuning again...

coz if u try to play this- especially if u have stubby fingers, you'll find it hard to play some of the stuff on the first few frets and it gets wider as you go down but its put on the second so he won't have to reach down into the 13+ frets because its just hard to reach... :)

  • Its not standard tuning... his guitar is tuned half step down and with the capo in the second fret makes it being half step up but with the advantage of the strings being more loose

he is playing half step up, thanks nicko : D

  • He plays it with so much passion. Great piece.

  • standard tuning?

  • all strings half step down and capo

  • its his original arrangement of Tears in Heaven

  • super :)

  • Beautiful lullaby :)

  • maybe ill let out a tutorial after i get it down ..nd idk when thats gonna be hah.

  • i actually have the tabs for this.

  • Will you send me those tabs? that would so awesome

  • Any chance you send me the tabs ? Would appreciate it. Tia

  • send me a pm, I will send you a copy of the guitar pro tab, quite accurate if you ask me, but i am still having difficulty playing it

  • His style is so clean. I like this over any other variation/ vocals of Tears In Heaven.

  • This music is beautful!!!

Masa Sumide is a good guitarrist!

    Congratulations Masa!

  • i wish there was some sort of tutorial for this song..

  • yeah aye

  • some parts remind me slightly of "over the rainbow"... dont know why^^

  • i really need that tab.

  • an amazing guitarist. i love this version of this song.

  • better than by eric clapton :D

  • no way!

  • lets stick with the word "different" ;)

  • This sounds incredibly smooth :)

  • poetic that was legend .i keep praticing i might be that good.cause im not giving up

  • May I have the guitar pro file??

  • fair play

  • Great guitar player.

Is someone able to tab it and send me ?

  • Wow I just love this version of Tears in Heaven :P. Masa Sumide is great, he puts so much emotion into his music, and I'd probably pick this version of the song over Eric Clapton's :D.

  • so much soul in this! Awesome

  • it still has that sad and soft feeling, it sounds nice

  • does anyone have the tab for this? if so, may please get a copy of it? thanks.

  • guys i have a question. If he downtunes all strings by half a step, and then puts a capo on the 2nd fret, wouldnt it sound the same as capo on first fret with standard tuning? why is there a need for the downtuning?
