2. Remote disc works great you just have to wireless N on your router too to take advantage of it its success. To many people bitch about it running on G.
3. Hard drive to small, again do you really need the big hard drive on the road? Have your itunes on your time machine at home.
Buy refurb for $1000 from apple and you got a good tool for a great price. I also have a 13" Macbook Pro and they all have their purpose.

it is NOT intended to be your main computer. It is supposed to be an ultra portable laptop. Obviously if you can afford it you have a desktop at home, so the computer is supposed to work off your desktop. If you REALLY need an optical drive remote disc is easy. No ethernet? hmm i think a huge majority of us connect to wireless internet when using our laptops. this computer was not made for everyone, i like it. if you don't then it probably isn't the right computer for you.
Or if you are running a marathon with your laptop the reduced weight could make a difference. I got a pro instead because I am a student and need more out of a computer but I still like the Air and would buy one if I had the cash. It is a great computer. it has limits. Why do people buy other ultraportable laptops when they could just do the same with a larger laptop? Same reasons as the Air
agreed, i think we all wanted a subnotebook, maybe a ten inch screen, with all the ports. coming in at 4 pounds and two inches thick would have been fine with most of us. apple is supposed to make friendly products, this macbook air is pretty damn unfriendly.
I'm pretty content with the design of the original macbook. I think this is just a status symbol for the rich, and nothing else. But if I were rich, I wouldn't buy this. Apple does make good, stable products, but waay too much is compromised for design.
thats all i am saying, this air was a mistake, they should have made a real subnotebook. they spent millions making the worlds second thinnest notebook, the sony x505 was thinner.
when you sit a macbook air on a table it is not just 19.4. high, it is 22mm. they trick you by not including the feet in the thickness. and the sony x505 is 5 years old, so the macbook air is nothing new
i feel like this statement is irrelevant, because the feet do not contribute to the footprint at all. The x505 is also very underwhelming in todays standards. Back then, well yeah, but now I feel like the air is the same thing, just a different market differentiation.
Well as much as I would love to agree about that price point, I just think that you have to give apple and its vendors credit. The technology that goes into the Air is supposed to be "top-notch." Therefore its huge premium is R&D and novelty. I believe the air is worth 1600. Above the blackbook because of R&D/novelty/portability. Most portables cost much much more than that with less features. I think the blackbook should be equal to the whitebook though.
i dunno john. i guess we can make plenty complaints about the air because it did not come out as the product we all wanted. The fact is that the MBA is still a remarkable product. Its aesthetics speak for itself, but also its processor and OS are pretty nifty. I agree though that this notebook is a definite gimmick: I'd do it if i had the cash.
i think if it had at least one more usb port, a somewhat faster processor, and at a cheaper price, i'd be SO SOLD! it is amazing to look and to use. i'd love one for school! depending on Apple's next update to it, i'll probably get one. and i dont understand this ethernet complaining crap. i have a macbook pro, which has an ethernet port and i've LITERALLY NEVER EVER EVER used it. i understand why one might need to use it, but most practically, it's a laptop. i actually miss the CD drive more.
Well i mean for diehard travelers who can't spare that, its for them. But personally i'd rather carry a Macbook Pro just cause it weighs what 2 pounds more? And it has soooo much more power.
REALLY NICE COMPUTER. it definitely wasn't made to be one's primary computer. but like you said, its PERFECT for mobility and almost erases the question of "should i bring my laptop?" I WANT ONE!

My eyeglass is lighter than this but I have to change the lense casue I
cannot see. what is point of having something VERY light
when it is IN fact not able to do MOST ? With that price I got Sager NP 5797
with Geforce Graphic card GTXM on it with almost eny ports you need, Quad
processor. so why use this mac for ? Is it becasue the operating system is good and not crash so much ? So called Unix like operating system ?

definition of subnotebook, screen size of 12 inches or less, so lets stop saying it is a subnotebook.
no ethernet? at home i am stuck with slower wireless?
remotely borrow a dvd drive but can not watch a dvd?
and it has an ipod hard drive, the slowest hard drive on the market today.
when it starts selling for 1000, i will think about it.
one usb? hook up a mouse and thats it.

what is intended is not important. everyone who buys a laptop wants to be able to do the same things on the road as at home.
even if a laptop will never replace a home pc, people still want ethernet, dvd drives, and a few usb ports.
not everyone has a home pc, some can only afford one computer, so they choose a laptop.
there is no reason to get this rather than a macbook. if the extra pound or two is too much for you to carry, join a gym

no, i have an ultraportable because i can put it in my jacket pocket, the macbook air is still as big as the macbook, just thin.
there is nothing portable about the air except weight, ultra portables are smaller, like my vulcan flipstart.
and running a marathon? if you run marathons with laptops then you should get the one pound OQO, not the 3 pound mac air

The Sony X505 was from 21mm to 11mm thin, the Macbook air is from 19.4mm down to 4mm.
