There is no way to reduce energy consumption because population grows around the world. The right question would be: "What is the alternative power source for the future?"

Making gas prices higher will not help reduce gas consumption, it will only help to increase corporation's money.

Due to flickering & the effects on the brain, florescent light bulbs of ANY type are NOT healthy & in many countries in Europe have been banned from use in ANY public places... LED bulbs are MUCH more efficient and without the adverse health effects.
