In regards to the "The Whammetes," I could've swore that I read in an Un-official Biography of 'GM' that th 2 Wham back up singers were un-officially referred to-by fans- as the 'Wham-metes,' out of affection. Not as a spin-off duet or nothing.
Shirley married Martin Kemp (former Spandau Ballet bass player) and they live in/near London. Pepsi vanished for awhile but has recently resurfaced in the London theater scene and has come back full circle, working with George Michael on some of his projects as backup singer.
What a brilliant soul pop song! If George Michael has written this song, then he should be ashamed that he has not blessed more acts with his songwriting skills. I see him as talented as Prince. While Prince is the funky one, GM is the romantic and melancholic one. "Talented to a fault!"
CDs were just starting to come out at the time. I remember seeing it in the record/tapes stores on CD. But CD players were so expensive. Not too many people had large CD collections at the time.
Hi, Tom - its Loelpolo yes the cd is dated 1987 i had one of the first Sony cd players it was the size of a shoe box unlike the ones now, i have alot of 80s music - thanks for the reply - Loel

Shirlie Holliman looked at her best in the video for Wham's Club Tropicana, where she's with her ex-partner Dee C Lee, who later worked for and married Paul Weller. Shirlie went on to marry Martin Kemp of Spandau Ballet, The Krays and Eastenders fame.
He IS confusing them with Mel and Kim. Even so, he is still an ass for saying that. So lets not give him the attention that he is craving then, eh? Poor child...
OMG I absolutely loved this song way back when, this song got very little airplay in the US but I remember the teen club I went to played it all the time. Thanks for posting this.
The song, the hair, that guy! Love it! Havent seen this is nealry 20 years...thanks so much! Brings back great memories of being in my early 20s. Thakts!!

Please, forgive for sounding abit ignorant but ... weren't,'Pepssi & Shirlie,' the back-up singers for the duo "WHAM!?" aka.'The Whammetes!'
rezuleta 3 years ago
"aka.'The Whammetes!' " WTF, they were never called that.
Original back up singers for Wham! were Dee and Shirley. Dee went to sing with Paul Weller (swoon) and she was replaced with Pepsi.
