  • at the end for doing the reward the raven gets the kinder egg toy

  • Comment removed

  • they were trained FUCK

  • There was also a study conducted at University of Oxford where 2 birds got a piece of food out from a tube using a hook-wire in 9 out of 10 trials.

My statistical analysis of this study (z=2.21, p=0.027) indicates "fair evidence" of animal intelligence....

  • Simply Amazing.

  • They dont see that the water will raise if they push it further. They're trained as mice are to do something to get their food. In this case drop yellow stones into the "bowl".

  • Stupid video. I was wondering how they got from not being able to reach the food to all of a sudden figuring to drop the "stones" into the tube. If theyd be able to figure that out that would be amazing. Even a human would need a little time. But then its, oh right, they were trained. What an absolutely pointless exercise.

  • teach them to pick up coins on the street for seeds, that's the ticket.

    Ten-thousand years later...

Sir. Crowstein: It was thousands of years ago that man taught us the concepts of capitalism, and as such we are the by product of a former great society. Yes, Mr. Corvet?

Jay Corvet: Uh yeah professor, I was just wondering. When was the last time you flocked? It must be hard finding chicks being such an egghead!

Sir Crowatein: Another remark like that Mr. Corvet and It's to the mirror box!

  • Intelligent ??? fuck me ....instead of wasting so much freaking time trying to get that little thing, why didn't it just fly to another place to get food. ( i know its trained but seriously)

  • If they were REALLY clever, one of them would have let the other one do all the work and taken the prize for itself...

  • @jandtmusicuk hahaha! Nice one mate :)

  • KINDER SURPRISES!

  • I think anthony should get some new birds set it up again and leave them to it, No training I bet their eventually figure it out :)

  • an untrained raven is still smart enough to figure out how to crack a nut open with their surrounding. the only reason why trained ravens are used is because a wild raven will most likely not attempt to do this.

  • even if trained, its still impressive

  • Awesome video! I've spent the last year looking after a family of crows, and they visit most days for tasty treats. It's a total honor to feed them and enjoy their company. I've watched them many a time take their treats and hide them with debris...normally leaves; for a food source when I'm not around. I took a.juvenile in overnight on a stormy evening and I'm convinced that it's the one who trusts me the most.

  • the smart one is the one hold on to the last rock.

  • So what if they were trained. It's still pretty damn impressive.

  • kinder surprise eggs? rofl

  • @Mou4dcs Take your religious crap elsewhere.. Ornithology is SCIENCE.. These are natures wonders and of all the birds I fly the most outstanding.. I can forgive the misuse of crows but can't forgive the ridiculousness of you commenting...

  • @Muslimahnlovenit these arnt crows. ravens are MUCH bigger.

  • Then Allah sent a crow searching in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, "O woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the body of my brother?" And he became of the regretful. (5:31)

  • Fucking Crows

  • @Anontalkwarrior fucking YOU.

  • i start to think that there is no 'wrong move' a raven can make. every motion they make, every quirk of their head, oozes amazing

  • they're clearly trained ...

  • Ravens are awesome. But these were trained. -_-

  • @hunhistory

don't go by that. there are others who did it untrained

  • I want a pet raven so badly.

  • Like for 'Golden Brown' at the beginning

  • Crows are smarter than politicans haha ;D

  • i don't think ravens are smarter than african greys...

  • @ShreddGamer14 Actually they are. But the african grey parrots come second.

  • @zagratia in problem solving they come second,HOWEVER, African greys have been proven to understand the mathematical value of zero, when taught language in the maner of a child be taught, form THEIR OWN sentenses in relation to their own wants and needs, not mear "parroting/repitition/copying) plus they VERY EMPATHIC, able to judge OUR emotions before even some people can see there is a issue.

  • Respond to this video... Actualy,i saw a simular vid,(about 10 years ago) were INDEED the ravens figuered out to put things into tubes to raise the water level and get at the meat, proving that they where aware of displacement/boyancy

  • Nice to hear Golden Brown by The Stranglers at the opening.

    Love crows,ravens and magpies.Great clip!!

  • Clever girl

  • There's 24 people here who couldn't figure out what the ravens could so they were frustrated and took it out on the video by giving it a thumbs down.

  • at the end of the video we find out that they were trained. Fuck off

  • @luigiperso yeah that was kind dissapointing hearing that. But that on it's own still says a lot about their intelligence or more specifically their ability to learn.

  • @luigiperso

not even a human would guess that the two tubes were connected at the wooden base, and that dropping stones in one would raise the waterlevel in another.

  • @luigiperso thought so what with the 'stones' being all in the same colour combination. Still pretty cool, though; I doubt most non-corvid birds would be able to be trained in this way.

  • @luigiperso yeah their still really smart! i mean try training a pigeon to do that! XD

  • @luigiperso

The overwhelming majority of your skills come from training.. don't think you're special.

  • @luigiperso There are other tests on wild ravens/crows which show a lot of intelligence like when they want a container with food, but the other crow steals it, the first crow will grab the wrong container first to trick it, then go and get the real one after.

  • @luigiperso training is just learning by being taught. yeah its not as impressive as if they figured it out themselves but, it is still rather impressive. it shows they are intelligent enough to do this.

  • @luigiperso actually, there are a lot of well-documented tests and papers about similar tests without ever being trained.

  • Oh they were Trained to do this..not as compelling now is it?

  • @WhatsHappening783402

the very fact that they learned is compelling enough.

  • @WhatsHappening783402 sadly no but in simpler tests they are proven to show logic, even when untrained. i just watched a video where some guy tied meat on a long string and hung it on a branch. this would never happen in the wild, so neither experience nor instinct would help the raven out. it hadnt been trained and it had never watched another raven solve the problem. it stood on the branch, and started pulling the string up, holding it down with its claws until the meat was high enough for it.

  • @WhatsHappening783402 Still impressive. Corvidae intelligence is well-documented.

  • @WhatsHappening783402 there's a suggested video also by bbcworldwide which shows wild ravens in japan dropping nuts on roads for cars to run over and crack them. they also do it on the stripes and wait for the red light for cars to come before they go and eat the bits of cracked nuts, so they don't get run over in the traffic. you tell me that's not clever.. and those are wild ravens without any training by humans

  • I wish i had one !.

  • No, I'm definitely NOT tired of the same old Facebook profile. I'm tired of Facebook constantly changing things when I get used to using them.

  • Beautiful creatures

  • woah even i didnt know how to figure this out

  • very long advertisement in the beginning of some utube clips, we should boycott those videos

  • Thatäs agreat video thanks for uploading it:)

  • IronMercenary, parrots are essentially more tame ravens. Ravens would be a bit too aggressive to make good houseguests. This is an interesting test, wouldn't expect for them to be able to solve this. This reaffirms ravens as one of my favorite species.

  • ROFL you can tell the really smart one at 2:42 he just waits for the food while the others do the work XD

  • @blackoutglitch hahah that little jerk!!

  • EUREKA!

  • they also talk sometimes ..how amazing

  • i cant even do that

  • How cool would it be to have a pet raven?

I mean if you walk into a party with a pet parrot, their all like "Oh okay, cool he has bird with him" but if you bring a pet raven to the party people will be all like " This dude is one badass son of a bitch!" I envy those who have a pet raven... or a pet eagle :3.

  • fuck ads.. whats more on feckin bbc!

  • but what if there was enough for everybody?

  • I have seen them throw acorns and nuts on the road to get run over so they can eat them, and also "adjust" roadkill to better tenderize it.

  • @viniciusvrd Yup, it does those. The only time i see those ads is when im using internet explorer (i always use Firefox) and i havent downloaded ABP for IE. No adds on youtube or sites like gametrailersdotcom etc... read up on it its really good. :)

  • If you can replicate a solution to a problem, you can figure it out by your self. it's just a matter of when, not if. very intelligent birds. Awesome creatures.

  • When I was a tiny kid my dad handed me and my brother each a bb gun and said, "Don't shoot robins" (Michigan state bird). So we looked at each other and went down a horrible path of shooting birds for "fun." If only that mindless fool had talked to us about respecting God's creatures and maybe taken us to a library to learn about them or taught us how to photograph or draw them, I wouldn't be having the flashbacks I have of these sensitive, smart, beautiful creatures dying horribly at my hands!!

  • @guyNbluejeans There are way too many of certain animals. You probably helped to feed other animals. What is MUCH, MUCH more terrible is the people who allow their cats to roam outside killing anything that moves for fun! The U.S. Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife calls it a wildlife conservation dilemma. Cats kill hundreds of millions of wild animals annually in the U.S. just for fun. Then the ignorant cat owners complain when a coyote gets their cat AFTER they allowed it to kill all the coyotes' food!

  • @3Mudbone1 I appreciate your valid insights on the subject. I guess there's a lot of truth when people say, "What will it matter a billion years from now?"

As for myself, the philosophical onion rings extend as far as my memories of needlessly shooting these beautiful creatures that were in one moment singing and loving their lives, and in the next hanging upside-down and bleeding where their beaks were blown out the back of their heads!

I'll never forgive myself for being so incredibly stupid

  • @guyNbluejeans HA ha! (No offense) You MUST forgive yourself! And I doubt very much if they were ever doing what you said. Does an owl, hawk or eagle regret that they killed? I don't think so.

  • @3Mudbone1 I have no idea if an owl ... regrets killing. I just know I regret what I did. I can only speak for myself and hope that parents take to heart my comments and think real, real hard about getting their boys bb guns. I'm not against guns at all, but little kids running around with 'em? ... you might as well give them the car keys.

There are millions of wonderful and positive things parents can do for their kids, such as teaching them to paint or play a musical instrument. ....

  • @3Mudbone1 Also........ if we're going to be honest about it, one can easily make the argument that it's the human animal that's causing the most harm in the world and to the world. Therefore, would one cry tears of pain or tears of joy if it were to happen that some great pandemic were to come along and wipe-out a significant portion of the human herd?

  • They would have worked it out for themselves. :D

  • Let them play the new game Portal 2

  • Movie Something Borrowed S UCKS A55 i will never watch it,,

  • Nevermore......

  • Why not teach them to put coins???.. Have them go out in to the world, and look for coins on the streets..

  • @communistjesus Nah. They'd get angry first, then they'd set up a slingshot, get another bird, and hurl it into the mechanism for 5000 points. :)

  • that raven is smarter than my 3 yr old daughter

  • Ravens in Northern Manitoba open your garbage can lids on garbage day. They also work in groups to steal food from the neighbouring dogs.

  • what's the music in the beginning of this movie??

  • @Fohkkha pretty sure it's "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers.

  • If I noticed that two (sometimes three) ravens are following almost everywhere, could that be a bad thing?

  • @DamianGarcia92 yes, its called a "murder" and its because they know its soon ur time...

  • @DamianGarcia92 Why no Damien, everything's fine, but it can't hurt to check your birth certificate & see if it has an expiration date. LOL

  • Smarter than 400+ members of Congress.

  • @MidNiteR32

    Smarter - no.

    More effective - very!

  • Man I wish the black one won, I was really cheering for him.

  • They show extreme intelligence, even problem-solving. Especially the big one...

  • hey birds aren't bird brained that's just ignorance(no I don't mean rude) birds just have compact brains size doesn't really matter with them as much.. I've seen budgies playing fetch and retrieve and they're pretty small birds.

  • Given time these birds actually would of solved it for themselves, they were probably trained rather quickly to do this.

  • So who watched the whole video thinking these birds were super genius birds, only to be disappointed when dingle nuts tells us that these birds have been trained to do this? Shoulda spilled the beans earlier.

  • Smartest Bird in the planet earth!

  • Looks like from the comments people have not listened to what was said - at the end the voicover explains that the ravens were trained to do this and did not figure it out for themselves...

  • @jagara1 this test has been done before with crows where they were not shown how to do it.

they also found way around it too like making a hook out of wire to get the object.

  • Most humans couldnt figure that little puzzle out.

  • Hawhaw you dont even know. this was just a normal day for us!

    -Caw

  • @RedSandStudios wow. hilarious.

  • "Golden Brown" amazing song :D

  • A very interesting summation of our feathered critter friends. Thanks for sharing.

  • if you are a ravens fan

    search

    black and purple km8s

hope you guys like it and share it with your friends!!

  • But (the other's) mind imposed on him the killing of his brother, so he slew him and became one of the losers. (30) Then Allah sent a raven scratching up the ground, to show him how to hide his brother's naked corpse. He said: Woe unto me! Am I not able to be as this raven and so hide my brother's naked corpse? And he became repentant. (31) Qur'an ......

  • Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

  • ravens are a lot more intelligent than most human youtube commenters on here :D

  • @shairaptor am sure they could easily win Portal 2

  • @greenleafend4games lol :DD

  • @shairaptor that's why i'm pretty proud my name is alex corbu which in romanian means raven :D

  • @alexcorvyn hey cool! you can be VERY proud then, the intellgence of ravens lay on you, that's a huge honor my friend! :)

  • @shairaptor thanks a lot ..sry for the delay in responding to your message

  • @alexcorvyn no problem :)

  • @shairaptor inlcuding you?

  • @cekinxxx nope. including YOU.

  • @shairaptor It's funny because it's true.

  • They use "Pascal's law".

  • Well she says at the end that they have been trained for this, so obviously they have. They're still more intelligent than what you'd expect from a bird though, there's a bunch of other fancy tests to watch ^^

  • There are a lot of humans who would not have figures that out...........

  • Amazing!

  • All of these birds are smarter than Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann

  • If'n U think, that all we know, Is to roll down slopes, made white with snow, Then looky here, you slandering brutes, We'll soon file class action suits, From your myth & poets jest, Targets grew upon our breasts, Your laws say black's same as white, Tho chapels' skies show doves in flight, Won't be long now mark our caws, Til you're hoisted on ur own petards, Our counsel soon will file our tort, For Poe's ass astral hauled to court...
  • Gee, the cameraman was standing by each one looking at it - "find" isn't exactly right word. Clearly the humans were guiding the birds if not outright training them

  • Perhaps we could use ravens to balance the budget. They seem to know what they are doing.

  • GO RAVENS GO!!!! XP

  • Yeh - its amazing, but surely they have been trained to do this - it would be much cooler if this was totally spontaneous

  • @corpsemunger definitely...they re not that smart its documentary show....

  • Yeh - its amazing, but surely they have been trained to do this - it would be much cooler if this was totally spontaniouse

  • ravens ARE intelligent!

  • fuck off with the fucking ads youtube!!!!

  • @CBCOlympics adds are what keep youtube free, so stop complaining! :)

  • @ZorrroUK shut the fuck up!

  • @CBCOlympics lol

  • @CBCOlympics Why?

  • @CBCOlympics Download "adblockplus" works on all sites and videos.

    God bless it man!!

  • @Myro117 U Can't block the ads on youtube without blocking the youtube player. *I'm talking about the ads you see in the beginning of the video

  • @CBCOlympics AdBlock Plus... works for both FIrefox and Chrome. As for you IE users... I don't know.

  • @TheEightBitLink Sssst, youtube is watching

  • @bright91 Please don't. I'm paranoid enough as it is.

  • @CBCOlympics I know right?! they should at least put useful and important ads like animal conservation....

  • @CBCOlympics Google a thing called "adblock" if you already have not. It's a browser add-on that gets rid of youtube ads.

  • Recent studies by Bird and Emery (2009) have shown that given experience of the idea of raising a water level (or a pressure released trapdoor with a worm inside) rooks (and evidence suggests other corvids too) will use stones(real ones as opposed to bright coloured ones) as weights, as well as using sticks to push things etc. They are remarkably smart birds showing problem solving skills beyond those of the great apes (our closest relative)

On top of that they can manufacture simples tools.

  • The two ravens are competing, and using a common goal as the game. Incredible.

  • ravens, crows, jays, jackdaws, and magpies belong to a familiy of super intelligent birds called corvid and if humans were to go extinct like dinos, they will be the next in line to be the master of this planet

  • @a552bcx Woah, a race of super-intelligent, bipedal, flying, wizard crows

    That would be raaaad

  • omg advertisements so annoying

  • Can they say Nevermore?

  • @breynolds1337 Thats stupid.

  • @LBTennis lolwut? Wut r stoopids yous talkin bout?

  • @breynolds1337 Your 'nevermore' comment, it was stupid.

  • @LBTennis Remember what ur momma said, "dont say anything that would hurt someone elses feelings" or something like that, whatever. Just cut me a break brah

  • @breynolds1337 your right. my apologies. good day

  • @LBTennis aapology accepted kind sir, good day =)

  • I think ravens and crows are amezing!

  • If man kind ever discovers the secrets to creating a time machine to go back to the beginning of the world, likened to when we sent a monkey as the first in space may I suggest we send a raven or two first, life preserver and food.

  • Well that's a bit pointless, if they were trained to do all of that. It proves nothing

  • Nevermore. ;)

  • Kinder Surprise!

  • The narrator is honestly the stupidest women alive. Here she is trying to prove avian intelligence, and she can't tell the difference between a stone and aFUCKING KINDERSURPRIZE CONTAINER!!!!

  • @Ultimategrid That is Dawn French genius. And of course they're kinder surprise containers.... that have obviously got a stone inside them! They've used the containers so the birds can find them quicker and so we the audience can see them clearly.

  • @mojododo85

Regardless of who she is, she called them stones the whole damn time.

  • well actually there are youtube videos where guineapigs do comparative things, ignoring for a moment that they can't climb that well, but fetching things and putting it into a container is very straightforward. Now that I think about it, there are videos about goldfish doing something like this!

  • I think its funny that they only mention that they have been trained AFTER the video is over...

  • ‎..i don't buy into BBC a.k.a 'Baffling Bird Channel' dock-coo-meant-tarries (documentaries) a lot :P ..i only steal them a couple of times, lol :D

  • nah i aint buying it . those birds have been trained to pick up and place the eggs :)

  • nevermore

  • they have to be trained. How else would they know dropping stones in another tube would cause the food to rise?

  • @bananian They see with there eyes

  • @jammingwithmarley

how do they know in the first place that they have to drop stone into one tube to cause water in the other tube to rise?

It's a moot point anyway, the video said at the end that they were trained.

  • I know some people that probably would not figure that out, unless you told them how to do it.

  • Its true, I woke up one morning and my pet raven had made me a full English breakfast.

  • @completetvnut2 There are way too many crows and I shoot them. The crows harrass the ravens. I would never shoot a raven.
