At independance, 15 percent of the invory's coast could read and write, averge lifespan was between 35-45 years so such a great infrastructure it wasn't.

Bengal famine 19443-44: Some indian and british soldiers in bengal went as far as raping starving women who were too weak to defend themselves. In culcutta, a estimated 20-30 000 women were raped.

Do not forget that they were also reposible for disatrous famines.
India repeatly experienced famines under british rule. In the 19th century several milion people starved to death while the governor general was filling up his face with food. The bengal famine of 1943-44 was very cruel: mothers were dying in the streets with their children.

@freeman8128 Well you certaintly made them not capable, most european colonies in in africa had a very low education rate. Most of them between 5-15 percent, angola was 5-10 percent. At independance, 15 percent of the invory's coast could read and write, averge lifespan was between 35-45 years so such a great infrastructure it wasn't.

Furthermore, my country did not colonise either Angola or Ivory Coast. The African countries that were either protected or colonised by my country were invariably left far better off & better educated at the time of independence than they have been before or since.

@freeman8128 Thats not really true, nigeria had a very low alphabitasation, in north nigeria the highest was 19 percent. Secondary education was very weak. Nigeria, ghana, sierra leonne ougada all experienced hardships.
The british were resposible for many massacres in rhodesia and the expulsion of several tens of thousands of people from their lands in that country.

@mudjinga I suspect there's not much you can tell me about the countries you mention - I am citizen of one & my late wife citizen of another.
Each - including potentially mighty Nigeria rich in every resource including oil; & Zimbabwe once the 'breadbasket of southern Africa' - became chaotic & their people impoverished, not because of whites but the self-serving arrogant backward mentality of their own corrupt native elites. Many Africans (& the Sierra Leone Govt. now wish British had not left.

@mudjinga As for "Rhodesia":-Actions by private agents & mercenaries of Cecil Rhodes in the 19th century were NOT "the British" who did not carry out ANY massacres in Rhodesia, but took over in order stop & prevent massacres. Since UDI there were massacres, both during the civil war & after -NONE by the British who were not involved - mainly by Shona (Mugabe) against Matabele.
I don't say there were no British injustices in Africa (or Britain) -but nothing as cruel & brutal as African on African

Many of the whites that resided in rhodesia during tha time weren't even rel citicens, but mainly expatri

@mudjinga The bush war in Rhodesia took place after Ian Smith illegally & unilaterally declared Independence from Britain. I am well aware of the war atrocities of that regime - Which the British (and I) strongly & actively OPPOSED.
I am no fan of Smith or Mugabe either - and never have been.

A lifetime of experience has undone the egalitarian idealism of my youth & I'm now very reluctant & sorry to have come to the sad, disappointing conclusion that if you compare black people around the world - although there are exceptional individuals - there is something about the AVERAGE, majority black people that is INNATELY slightly backward. Their problem isn't the whites it's themselves.

@mudjinga In Nigeria at the time of independence 1961 (& today), literacy was (& is) very low in the north (Hausa) because they are Muslim & as such often tend to reject any education that is not Islamic. In the South (Yourba & Igbu) Standards were very much higher & that difference still exists today.
It was & is the backwardness of the Northerners (Hausa) that distorts and holds back the overall averages for Nigeria.

@mudjinga It is also worth remembering the many Europeans -including members of my family- who sacrificed their whole lives to the service of Africa & Africans. Some turned their backs on their own people Many suffered great hardships, serving Africa & Africans with respect, love & devotion -Some died or were killed.
What thanks did they get? Who remembers them today?
I am sick & tired of lies about how horrible we were to the poor blacks. The blacks did very well from us - & many still do.

@freeman8128 Never did I say that white didn't have a place in africa. As a white african I can feel but admiration for Many of them who stayed in dificult conditions and still thrived. Would a civil war erupt in south african many white would stay and fight. Only south africa and freetown, had any real education facilities.
Most brtish colonies were distuted of roads, hospitals infrastruction at independance

@mudjinga You obviously know NOTHING about British African colonies which in the term of a single human lifetime built from nothing the best most efficient infrastructure in the whole of Africa - My family helped do it.
Under 40 years black rule it was not developed further - but ruined, made ramshackle chaotic & dysfunctional - I know because I was there.
The same in Southern Africa.
Everywhere on earth black people are naturally primitive -not the fault of whites but of blacks themselves.
