a +15 - 15 = 23 - 15

23 - 15 =8

Therefore 'a' is equal to 8

It could be done mentally. But i guess you are trying to teach kids how to do it. I didnt even know this way. But i dont know if people actually use this way.like i was saying before, it is definitely not wrong, its just that couldnt you add two plus 3 then see what x would have to be to make 5..like if it was ten, then you would add 2 + 3 (which is obviously 5) then see what you have to multiply it by to get 10. or 10 divided by 5 =2

You explain math so good compared to the teacher i had when i was in middle you make it so easy.

This involved way to many steps. I got confused the way he did it. Teachers might not want you to do it thsi way so ask your teacher if this si ok before using this. Isolate you 2x. Take the 3, and subtract it from 5. YOu get 2. Put a line under the 2 and put and 2x under the line. You now have 2 over 2x. AS you know, if the number ontop oand bottom are the same, it equals 1. I did this in probably 7 seconds in my head. Very easy.

-the best and the simplest way to solve equations is by using those simple algebraic rules which probably everyone in the 7th grade would know by now.Math is fun! :)
