Vedere uno dei musicisti piu` grandi di ogni tempo suonare una specie di rock- disco- jazzato- new age in di piu` inparrucato e vestito come un ragazzino " navigato" ma fa tanta tristezza....
I remember watching this when it aired. Blew me away-2 of my all time faves Miles and David, playing together. Saw Sanborn in Aug. of 09 in St. Chas., IL and we got to meet him after the show, get autographs and pics taken w him (only time all summer I didn't have my camera w/ me!). I told him that this particular moment was 1 of the musical highlights of my life, see him and Miles play together. He smiled immediately and said, "Wasn't that great! That was a lot of fun." Excellent video
what book i read the quincy troupe miles bio don't say shit about prince writing tutu marcus got the copy write on the song and album read the liner notes
boricuatrumpet69: "I think Marcus Miller is so overrated."
Are you stupid, young, or both? What you are saying is that if Marcus is overrated that anyone of lesser talent has nothing to offer the musical world. EVERYONE has something to offer! It's people like you that put out the flames of creativity. For God's sake stay away from children that are starting to learn an instrument. For the record I doubt very seriously that Miles would have made the comeback he did without Marcus.
David Sanborn or Kenny Garrett. I think Sanborn won on this won. Killer improvisation.
I think Marcus Miller is so overrated. He is the only bassist I know to stick with Miles Davis' music and make a career out of it. What a playerist. Everyone else got their own S#!&
I think I read it wrong. But here's a direct quote from Miles' book: "Prince wanted to put a song on Tutu, even wrote a song for it, but when we sent him the tape and he heard what was on there, he didn't think his tune fit. Prince has such high musical standards. like me. So, he just pulled his song meant for the album until we can do something else at a later date...." (pg. 372)
Also, Miles mentions earlier in the book that Prince actually wrote the song "Tutu". But the book is transcribed from interview recordings, and some of the information may be wrong.
Miles loved Prince: "In 1987 I was really getting into the music of Prince and the music of Cameo and Larry Blackmon..... But I really love Prince, and after I heard him I wanted to play with him some time."
@serrada Hey. Sorry about that. I misread the book. Prince wrote a song for the album Tutu, but when miles sent him the rest of the tunes, Prince decided that the song he wrote didn't really fit with the rest. And even if you think Prince didn't write shit, Miles really admired his music, and felt that he was a major aspect of the advancement and future of good creative music.
@tuhsdxas no he did not marcus miller wrote all the songs and played all the instruments except miles and foly and produced it and the follow up album
@serrada . You aren't understanding what I'm saying. Prince wrote a song for it, but they decided that it should not be on the album. I'll quote directly from Mile's autobiography in another comment.
@serrada. This is the caption on picture # 102, in the 2nd photos section, in the words of Miles Davis: "Prince wrote a song for my first Warner album, "Tutu", but when he heard what was on the tape we sent him, he didn't think his tune fit. A great musician has to have the ability to stretch, and Prince can certianly stretch."
When I read this, I thought Prince's song was on the album, but later in the book it clarifies that it was not, and that Marcus wrote all the songs they recorded.

In the 80's it was Miles who recorded Marcus Miller's work--I know that Tutu and Hannibal (I believe) are both Marcus Miller compositions.

trust me,Miles put his taste to the both of them.without Miles on them they would of been great but they weren't going to sound like this.
