  • Good for the Myers family!! Now, go watch "A Raisin in the Sun"....sad movie. I'm so glad I wasn't raised the believe the way most of these people do.

  • lol This is funny to see this. Live in Levittown all my life and it's becoming a ghetto. Mostly my theory is because not a race factor even though its much more multiracial today. But because of the collapse of a failed system. Corporations leaving America for cheaper labor and no production of products built here anymore. Leaves no jobs and a larger contributor factor to the scraps of life. But it really is a failed system all around, everyone suffers from America's economy as well.

  • Mrs.Meyers died 12-6-2011. Just yesterday

  • Read the comment about bloomsdale, fleetwing estates, and terrace. It's a war zone infested with drugs. They live like animals.

  • That lady was right tho... They did bring down the housing value

  • Ah, the good ol' days the Tea Party wants to take us back to.

Yeah, the 1950s were America's golden decade... unless you were black.

  • I wonder if this woman is still alive and if she is I wonder how she feels abut what she said...

  • [2:38] "If a Negro family can afford what YOU can afford, how do you justify YOUR FEELING of SUPERIORITY." <--'nuff said.

  • its hard to think this is pretty much right down the street from my house!

  • that woman is dead now :D

ps- levitt wasn't bad, he was anti-racist, but the few bulk suppliers of building supplies and raw land after the war forced him to impose racist bais or to be refused goods. it was wither comply or no one at all would have gotten anything.

It doesn;t justify the action, but don't demonize him for something be didn't do willingly.

  • William Levitt was not a good person in real life. He harassed and abused homeowners who didn't keep their houses exactly as he wanted. He was a racist, despite having once been discriminated himself as a Jewish American.

But he got what was coming to him. When he died in the 1990's, he had no money left.

  • im friends with mrs.myers! she lives in york,PA

  • I finally understand why i could never make friends with people in levittown growing up. Its so nice to live across the county now

  • I lived in Levittown in the 70's and 80's. It was still very, very white. And I'm embarrassed now to know the community I lived in as a kid had this kind of racism.

  • While I am against most discrimination.

If people ban together and want to discriminate against a certain group, they should be allowed if it is on their private property/ commune.

  • What I find so disturbing is that the first woman is really scared; you can here it in her voice; others too. She admits, without saying it outright, that she will resort to intimidation tactics to get "them" out.

For all of the people who were interviewed and admitted they were for peace, I have mad respect. Many predominantly-white communities TODAY would not want blacks moving in. It took GUTS to be white and side with blacks back then. Makes you realize not much has changed in 50 years.

  • WOW is all can say about this video Im waiting for archie bunkers interview!!! I never heard of this documentary I'm gonna have to find this film ....btw property values are doing just fine since the coloreds have moved in lol ...man talk about white fear.

  • I LOVE the fact that their biggest concern over and over again throughout the video is that their white daughter will bang a black guy!!! Holy shit that's funny!

"So what's the real fear you have Miss Whitey?"

" Well, property values might go down and my little girl might go down as well... ya know... on a black man... and we can't have that."

    Hysterical!

  • I guess thats why they built the Terrace and Bloomsdale......No wonder the "colored" people don't care about your neighborhood. Look how they were treated.......

  • agreed

  • Lived in two towns (one 4,000 and the other 32,000 population) in Pennsylvania and were all white. When the blacks moved in all hell broke loose. Drugs, violence, and in-breeding with white trash.

  • I grew up in Levittown in the late 60' through the late 70's. We never loved our doors, left the keys in the car, etc. Try that now! Some say most of these people didn't know any better....or did they? Makes you wonder!

  • @PumpDog99 Personal crime incidents per 1000 people is 2. Compare that to an average of 2 per 1000 among the list of 100 best places to live in the US (See CNNMoney). Property crime incidents per 1000 people 17. Compare that to an average of 24 among the top 100 residences. Reading and Math test scores 26.9 and 28.6% above the state average respectively. Compared to 22.9% for the top 100 residences... long story short, you're an idiot.

  • People can't stand the truth!

  • Now she's a teabagger on medicare who goes to townhall metting and yells about keeping the gov't out of her damn healthcare. She's concerned that she is loosing 'her country' and that it is turning socialist/fascist/Marxist/atheist/gay/liberal/diplomatic/etc... but insists her paranoia has nothing to do with Obama being 'colored'. ok.

  • Oh Levittown is so great and "diverse" now. Check the crime rate lately? Ask any police officer or sit through a week of District Court in any one of the glorious townships in Levittown and hear about all the lovely crime. Wow Levittown has really evolved as a city. Soon enough it will be on par with Camden, Trenton or Philadelphia.

  • Yeah, the Native American's had a good thing going too, until a bunch of Europeans showed up with diseases and a psychopathic deities.

If everything you have is destroyed by the people you once enslaved, that's karma. I grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

  • i don't have any predgidous (spelling?) against coloreds i just don't want them in my neighborhood! apparently that woman had know idea how utterly idiotic her statement was. does not want to be thought of as against anything but.... keep those japanese, blacks, muslims, gays away from me! unbelievable !

  • Ahh...The good old days. Its a darn shame the world isn't like this anymore.

  • @LuminaLover94 Yep, the "good old days" for the openly narrow-minded.

  • @Pocketrocklife The world was a much simpler place. A happier time in American life. Darn shame that it can't be like that again.

  • @LuminaLover94

Too bad everyone else suffer as a result(other countries)

  • Just think 52 years later and most suburban whites still feel the same way as they did in 1957

  • Well, at least it's seen as an out-dated old people's thing

In Gran Torino we learn that words should be taken as words and people might prove to be something more if you are patient enough to find out.

I just wish people would stop being overly-sensitive. The above video shows bigotry and prejudice against minors. THIS is racist. Saying someone is well-spoken or paying a compliment that rubs you the wrong way is not.
