The current population is the most selfish in history. We're using almost the entire planet's store of ancient sunlight (i.e. oil) in our lifetimes, and not even for anything permanent, just burning it up, even though we need it as a raw material to make some important things. Somehow humans got on without this for millennia before, and are going to have to do without after we burn it all. Do we care about our descendants at all?
