Also the word in the lyrics is "autotomy" and not "autonomy". Autotomy (or self amputation) is the act whereby an animal severs one or more of its own appendages, usually as a self-defense mechanism designed to elude a predator's grasp. The lost body part may be regenerated later.

Love Giant Squid. This is my favorite song from this record. Their first is still my favorite, but 'The Ichthyologist' is an amazing record.
