I wonder how did his spaceship looked like when he came to earth. It's so unreal. No matter the clip, no matter the instrument he's playing, my jaw ends up on the floor. While some people are struggling for a lame catchy verse-chorus, Hermeto is doing whatever he wants... giving music its freedom and still making it very entertaining.

I think the zappa comparison here is due to the bass riff, which is similar to the bass line in Pound for Brown, Obviously, Pascoal is in 6, Zappa in 7, but the phrase is similar and predominant. Also a lot of Pascoal's playing comes from a specific tradition and Zappa utilises various traditions from all over the world in various songs, 'bebop tango' anyone?

You yankee idiots, why do you always have to make comparisons to your own (great) artists, like Zappa? Why can´t you just let alone and appreciate what is genuine and unique but comes from other part of the world? Hermeto is one of a kind, and if you research just a little bit, you´d see how deep and strange and incomparable his music is. I am from Argentina, but I think brazilian´s Hermeto is perhaps one of the best artist of the XX century. The most similar thing I have seen to a deity.

To me his sounds similar in places to Alan Zavod's work with Zappa, e.g. his piano solos in Let's Move To Cleveland from the 1984 tour.

According to Japanese prog magazine Jovino Neto himself also pointed strong similarity between Zappa and Hermeto (he was progressive rock fan before joining Hermeto Band and big fan of Zappa).

And Mats & Morgan in Sweden --- should-be-last-tour-members-of­-Zappa --- seems totally brown away by Hermeto these days.
