  • Hi Can you please tell me the name of the cafe style organization I would love to participate in such awesome work!

  • Congratulations!

  • hmmmm.

  • What is it about these two funny, quirky, harmless girls that they seem to be the world's most powerful magnet for illiterate morons?

  • great now ur getting paid of us by making some videos, while people starv

  • oughtiesschtuff, I can keep up! I like her style!

  • That is a wonderful approach to offering social services to those less fortunate. I never thought about it that way, giving people the chance to stand on their feet while they are treated with dignity, not like inmmates. Liz, could it be possible to have a video dedicated to the organization you volunteer with and the services you guys provide? it could be a wonderful documentary material.

  • This is their style, and I quite frankly like it, because it makes the videos different and more dynamic. I think she was in a bit of a rush too, but I like them they way they are.

  • I finally remember who you remind me of!!! Louise's best friend on 1989 movie Teen Witch. This is a good thing. I LOVE that movie! :D

  • Of course there was also the giant Foucault's pendulum just before they went back to the island, but that is a whole different Foucault (Leon). It's too Foucault difficult to keep them all straight....

  • Did you know that LOST Pearl site was based on Foucault's Panopticon? Go to the Loststudies site to find out more..

  • You talk to fast. Slow down.

  • She doesnt talk to fast, maybe you just comprehend slow.

  • why is your nose red?

  • So many cool things you are doing! (Totally didn't mean to sound like Yoda just then.) You are doing so many awesome things!

Congrats on your partnership! I wondered why you weren't already!

  • I really want to volunteer, but I don't have any idea how to find good organizations to support. Any suggestions on websites that are good for listing volunteer opportunities?

Also, I read some Foucault in college and the only thing my professor had to say about him that was productive was a joke that had the punch line "Foucault you!"... I didn't learn a lot in that class.

  • Try this website, it has alot of places covered. If your unsure call a church in your area and im sure they could point you in the right direction.

  • aww. poor Liz. hope your back feels better. Congrats on the partnership, I hope it helps you with your college bills or whatever else you need money for.

  • would have gone down better with a burrito!!!

  • priviet! voyuz volunteerism! the more i see of you the more i want you. too creepy? how about 'you fuckin' rock!'?

  • Ah, good ol' Foucault. Had to study his essays for criminology. It's good stuff.

  • ....which takes a million years.... lol. i love these videos keep them up

  • I think she's intelligent and I wish I had her hair, it's very ornately curled and bouncy-looking. What's the use of picking on her anyway, does is help you get through the day knowing that you fruitlessly insulted an obviously confident person?

  • I volunteer so tohelp you out i'll tell you why i volunteer. First off I love animals so I volunteer at my local animal shelter. I love doing it cause i get to care for, play, walk and cuddle all the animals in the shelter and who doen't love snuggling a dog or cuddling a fuzzy little kitten. The best thing though is that it makes you feel good knowing that you providing these aniamls the love attention they need while waiting for a new and permenate home and helping them find that home.

  • Voice mail is part of someones dignity?

  • Not having a phone number is one of the biggest obstacles to getting a job when you are homeless. If you give the number of a shelter or a friend you are instantly tarred with the homeless brush. But if you give a number that goes to your voicemail, your potential employer won't know you're homeless. It's sad but most people won't hire the homeless because there is such a large stigma attached to the label.

  • Your thesis idea sounds great. I've been volunteering for an organization called A Gift for Teaching (which was my P4A video here on YouTube). Yesterday, at a volunteer appreciation picnic, they told us that the new number for calculating the monetary value of volunteer hours was just announced at $20.25!!

  • congratss(:

you HAVE TO SEE OUR NEW VIDEOOO !

your in it, and you should see it(:

  • YAY LIZZ! Foucault is my homeboy!

  • Congrats on becoming a partner!! I heard that if you click on the ads, then all your problems will melt away

  • I would just like to mention there are lots of programs that were created with students with learning disabilities in mind, but could be very helpful to you.

Essentially the program types in a word document what the student says into a microphone. Now if what was going into the microphone was the tapes of interviews you had recorded. You would save a lot of time!

They are fairly cheap/ free programs. Check them out online by searching "assisted technology" and maybe Learning Disabilities.

  • socialist

  • And socialism is bad because...?

  • socialism isn't inherently bad. why are socialists paranoid? lol

  • That was awesome! Love your thesis statement. Thats awesome that you are volunteering in your community.

  • love your thesis topic. would love to read it when it's done!

  • I love the fact that she talks fast! It's so annoying to have people hum and haw...my ears try to crawl out half way and meet them!

  • There was a piece on "Marketplace" (a radio show/pod cast) about volunteering, and it seems like a lot of people volunteer because they are out of a job and see it as a combination of "doing something useful with spare time" and "a chance to find a real job".

I am not sure if that makes me happy or sad, but I suppose that it is always possible to deconstruct altruism into egoism if you look hard enough, and perhaps the result matters more than the motives? (Or the opposite? I can never decide)

  • transcribing isn't so bad. there are programs that will do it for you - but you've got to check carefully or it leaves out the odd consonant. :D

    nice thesis!

  • how would you feel about adverts for things that are objectionable, like fast food or koala bear fur coats?

  • I Love Amnesty International, and I was working in Africa for a month.

Activist nerd fighters for the WIN!

  • HeY! congradulations on the advertisements/sponsors...

thanks also for choosing your volunteer topic:)

    HUG!

  • girl you are fast!!! Nice thesis by the way!! Good luck..

  • Does altruism enter into your study of volunteering?

  • CONGRATS ON PARTNERSHIP! You totally deserve it. :)

  • Wow

    U Tlk Really Fast Haha

  • Oh my God... I hate transcribing. In 8th grade I did a 45 minute interview and I had to transcribe it.... It took like 5 hours and like 4 words in (inaudible) which just pissed me off because I listened to what he was saying about 30 times and then had to decide that I didn't know what he was saying when I could have just said (inaudible) in the first place! Bleghhh

  • i never realized this before, but you talk extreamly fast [and yes. i know i spelled extreamly wrong. dont judge me.]

  • Don't forget one very important aspect when you ask folks about volunteering: social desirability, which of course is the tendency to skew answers to what they want to hear or what makes the answerer sound good.

A nice followup question that can sometimes shine light on motives for volunteerism is what they hope to gain from it.

Some'll more say the satisfaction of knowing they helped others, or a karma thing. Awesome, awesome people. Some may have shallower motives, hence social desirability.

  • Are you going to the NorthWest YouTube gathering?

  • Transcribing...its always a pain. Someday we may be able to get the robots to do it. I hope all goes well with your thesis.

  • I like that band! I'm glad to hear they're decent people. Best of luck writing your thesis, it sounds like a really interesting topic and I hope you mention more about what you learn from your research. :)

  • Interesting thesis!

  • congrats on the partnership!

  • aww, that's really cool, good job helping out the community.

  • Maybe, in the future, you can do the video upside down to make ROOM for these partnership ads!

  • congratulations on finally being granted partnership, glad you finally posted a video i had almost thought you three had died. HUZZA TO PARTNERSHIP! (and sisterhood!)

PS Liz my 7 layer Bars came out great!

  • This is the first time i've been bored with one of liz's videos... still love ya though =)

  • you spend 6-10 hours with your videos?! omg! thats a lot!

  • I heart Foucault. Your thesis sounds really cool!

  • Damn I love Lizz!

    Wow Partners!!!

    Congradulations!!!

Hope this means you guys make more videos!!

  • What is the song in the intro?

  • your hair is looking extra spooky today!

(that means I like it LOL)

  • the beginning was brill!

  • your nose is red, you look cold =P

  • Can your soup kitchen accept paying customers to help support those who can't afford to pay?

Are they located in multiple places like around the southeast maybe?

  • Do you have to tip the waitresses at these cafe style soup kitchens?

    Are they homeless as well?

    Do they get paid?

Now I am afraid the next time I stop to get a bite to eat it'll be at a soup kitchen and I won't even know it!

IDK, is that a bad thing?

  • good for you! volenteering is always good! It's back pain of LOVE lol. that campaign with the band sounds really interesting! it's a pretty cool concept and i've never heard of these soup kitchen cafes either, that's awesome! anyways yeah just wanted to give you some cudos cause volenteering is always super. ^___^

  • Don't you love comments like this: "You are sexy Ma! Holla at ya boi! We can get our Youtube swerve on for reals"

  • Americans are weird as they do weird stuff like boritos xD WHY BORITOS ? it soooo doesn't make sense and it makes FAT

  • Could you use speech to text software to speed up the transcribing?

  • In the military and most jobs I've worked at, I "volunteered" all the time! Usually this consisted of my sergeant/boss telling me "You just volunteered!"

  • When I am asked to click an add ( in a round about way) its time to go .

  • Im not too sure I would actually eat a burrito given to me by a door-to-door dude. But its never happened to me b4. Heck, maybe I wouildn. ....nah

  • where was your hidden object?

  • Sounds like you could get some sort of burrito meme started....

  • do you think you'll end up writing an ethnography about it?

and transcribing sucks. . . i did it for a professor once. and don't want to again. short hand will save your life.

  • OK Go?

  • OMG! YOU MEET OK GO!!!!

Did you go to the concert too?

  • grammar correction: "met"

  • watching this video with you cutting every 2 seconds is like playing whack-a-mole with my eyes.

Where are you gonna be after the next cut? There? No, there! Damn, missed you again...

And really interested to here what comes out of your thesis.

  • Congrats on your partnership!

And your thesis sounds pretty jokes.

  • Dignity and respect is good. I don't think, however, that I would eat a burrito handed to me by a stranger on the street.

  • Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's kind of sad that we don't really trust anything free because there's assumed to be some ulterior motive behind it.

  • Yay for SisterSalad getting partnered, and yay for Foucault and governance. -John

  • Aww...my little babies are so cool! I love you guys out the yin-yang! Invisisis is in the shower (yeah, amazing) and I watched this first, without her. She's gonna pinch my head off. Toodles!Mimma

  • You guys are awesome, I'm so glad youtube invited you to the smosh level! :-)

  • Sheesh! You gals are made of such abundant amounts of awesomeness! I like your thesis!

  • You'll also need a heading banner for the channel to go above the video description.

Also, do you think its good research practice to participate in the activities of your research subjects? I'd have though that'd have been discouraged as compromising impartiality.

  • Descriptive research often has looser standards for impartiality than experimental research, which is a good thing. This enables the researcher to transcend the conceptual restraints inherent in relying on his/her pre-existing understanding of the paradigms involved in the research area before beginning the study. I think it is a mistake to presume that researchers can only learn from subjects who are complete strangers, though the influence of pre-existing relationships should be addressed.

  • :)

    .

  • You talk fast haha.

  • you deserved to be partnered seeing as how i watched this video with 36 views, then refreshed the page to 86 views :)

    good job sisters :)
