On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. How many people honestly like their work or their shifts? I had understanding for OC Transpo workers when this thing began. But the more I see how much people are suffering because of this strike, especially low-income and disabled people, because they do not have sufficient income to afford taxi service during this horrible winter, the more I am beginning to question the goals of this strike. They've gotten a good offer from the city and it's time to go back to work.

When the Union decides to implement the operators to their respective positions all customers' should not pay a fare to coincide with each day the strike was in effect. Simply everyone should walk on the bus, say hello, not pay and sit down. Give this watered-down version of organized crime tactics Union a simple taste of what they are doing to this beautiful City of Ottawa.
They went to strike because of a scheduling problem. The senior drivers went on strike because the young drivers were getting split shifts, working up to 12+ hours shift while the senior drivers were getting the best shifts. When OC transpo decided that they couldn't allow it, this was a breach in contract, so the senior drivers went on strike because the union is a greedy bastard.
Actually, looking into this, it sounds like the drivers are getting a pretty raw deal. If they have to work 13.5 hours a day, but are only being paid for 8 because of split-shifts... The drivers have a fairly legitimate complaint.
That's what the city was trying to fix. Too much overtime was flying around and new people were getting incredibly shitty dangerous shifts (like working late nights, 4 hours of sleep, then a morning shift)
The union however, being as all the heads are senior members, didn't want this change because it would screw their little thing they have where they can plan maximum pay and minimum time worked.
Honestly... Name another city were bus driver have the potential to earn over 100k.

When transit service resumes, I urge every Ottawan to climb on board an OC Transpo bus free of charge. When the bus shows up at your stop, get on, grab a seat and ignore the driver.

On the news on CTV last night, there is a reported 50% increase in traffic accidents from January 1st to 18th. They state its a matter of time before people are found dead in there homes due to this strike! I wonder how many innocent people will be hurt, or even die because of the recklessness of this strike. How many people honestly like their work or their shifts? I had understanding for OC Transpo workers when this thing began. But the more I see how much people are suffering because of this strike, especially low-income and disabled people, because they do not have sufficient income to afford taxi service during this horrible winter, the more I am beginning to question the goals of this strike. They've gotten a good offer from the city and it's time to go back to work.

I don't about you but them following the speed limit isn't a bad idea, especially when some of them don't wait for an elderly person to have a seat and then they accelerate like crazy, causing the person (sometimes it's not even just the elderly) to fall down. So what if they can make people suffer? Once they're back to work we can make them suffer too. They just don't seem to have realized that yet. :)

They went to strike because of a scheduling problem. The senior drivers went on strike because the young drivers were getting split shifts, working up to 12+ hours shift while the senior drivers were getting the best shifts. When OC transpo decided that they couldn't allow it, this was a breach in contract, so the senior drivers went on strike because the union is a greedy bastard.

Actually, looking into this, it sounds like the drivers are getting a pretty raw deal. If they have to work 13.5 hours a day, but are only being paid for 8 because of split-shifts... The drivers have a fairly legitimate complaint.

That's what the city was trying to fix. Too much overtime was flying around and new people were getting incredibly shitty dangerous shifts (like working late nights, 4 hours of sleep, then a morning shift)
The union however, being as all the heads are senior members, didn't want this change because it would screw their little thing they have where they can plan maximum pay and minimum time worked.
Honestly... Name another city were bus driver have the potential to earn over 100k.

we're in a recession and the drivers want more benefits? good timing.
unions were awesome back when women had no rights and children were being forced to work. nowadays they cause all this conflict just to remind us that they're still around.
the government is not going to give them a better offer so they'd better get back to work or deal with being replaced. respect? ottawa NEEDS public transit. lead by example and service the city. don't like it? get another job, transportation is ESSENTIAL
