Good work but some years are off. You have a shot of the Villa Riviera 1900 but it wasn't built until 1928. And there's an aerial shot of Long Beach 1920 that has the Cooper Arms. Cooper Arms wasn't built until 1922. At 3:05 you have a shot of Ocean Blvd. and the Villa Riviera. You say the Villa Riviera is a hotel, but in 1930 it wasn't a hotel. It was an "own-your-own" and became a hotel in 1933. This is repeated in a shot at 3:26. Not intending to be a jerk. Just letting you know. Nice work.
WHY did they tear down the Municipla Auditorium? What a beautiful structure - no lost. I played at the opening of the Spruce Goose - what a wonderful sight -also gone... moved up north. thanks for posting.
I'm just getting ready to move back to L.B. after 15 years away. Thanks for this view. My sister is also a fixture at the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce. Thanks again.
It was really interesting to see this video. I walk through those old streets often, and it's really hard to imagine what it looked like. I know that there are parts left over still to this day. The Looff's carousel roof is located on a vacant spot off of the 710, the tattoo parlor is still in operation, though very well hidden. The Ocean Center Building, seen in many of these photos still stands today, and serves as a visual marker for me. The Pike at Rainbow Harbor is absolutely nothing l
@PMElfman79 I graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1979. In that same year my friend and I took a drive to Ocean Blvd. downtown Long Beach. I wanted to see what the Pike looked like after all these years. Prior to this visit, the last time I went to the pike was in 1967! I was 7 years old at that time when my dad and Mom took me and my three sisters to this amazing amuesment park! It had all sorts of great rides and of course the awesome CYCLONE RACER! What I saw in 1979 was emptiness!!
wow, this was really AWESOME thanks for sharing. I love the slideshow. Great history to share. No pictures of the Tsunami? Now you are going to make me go out and research abit more about the History of Long Beach! Joe
oh, and how about some names and not just "the first" like what was the first high school? I know that my high school, Woodrow Wilson was tents before there was a building...I guess it was the second school in LB according to Wikipedia.
LOVE this, I grew up in Long Beach in the 60s and 70s. I wouldn't change that for the world. BUT...these pictures go too dang fast! U can't read it all and have to keep pausing....just sayin...
Thank you. I haven't seen a lot of those pictures in so long. I use to have a book of Long Beach. Telling the whole history how it got its name and so on. It had a lot of those pictures in there. And all the all names of the names of the streets. Thank you so much.
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you very much for putting it together and for your help promoting this great city by the sea. I am excited to see what the future has in store for Long Beach in the 21st Century.
