  • wow that woman was reeeeaaaaaallly dumb. really.

  • Don't yell at the bird it just makes them more scared !

  • sorry about tui.

  • i am sorry about lui and i hope she r.i.p i am really sad for you and lui was a great bird knowing after the videos i have seen i am really sorry

  • will this work for a baby raccoon i found in my garage?

  • @oulap54321 it might, just make sure you take your shirt off and crawl up to it and force it in a corner. make sure you stay on your back...

  • id bite that chick too with that annoying vouice

  • After watching this video, I am so glad I am doing the right thing. I have never done any of this to my bird and I build their trust. I would never harass my bird like that. If he wants my attention, he will let me. Click on my name/link and see my interactions with my CAG - Jake. He is buddy!!

  • Hey Guys I need help. I just got a green cheeked courne (semi-tamed) and it HATES me. When ever I try to hold him he flies in the cage like crazy! I NEED AN ANSWER PLZPLZPLZ!

  • I am so sorry you lost tui Andrew, it must have been so hard on you, she will live on forever in our hearts, she gave us inspiration and faith that we too can train and trust our loved pets. You were so good with her, and you a natural teacher kind and gentle.

  • I've only been an African Grey owner for just over a year and I've never done this. I know we all need to learn, but the way she keeps pushing her hand towards the bird is just wrong. She's wondering why the bird is biting her. Sometimes my bird will have moods and doesn't want to be touched; she'll try to bite so I move away and leave her be. If I was that bird, I'd gave bitten a huge chunk out of her finger just for upsetting me. Lol. ;)

  • just leave it alone at 3:56 u keep trying to make it step up just let it be

  • That woman's voice made me nauseous.

  • Dude. *I* would bite that woman if she kept sticking her hand in my face.

  • very good training vidoe to make people think.

  • Hi i have a cockatiel and when i talk to them they are cal and listen to me and sometimes respond they dont get scared and when i put my hand in the cage they react the same way and when i hold millet in the cage they want it but they dont trust me enough to get it so what should i do i think im off to a good start so please give me advie and tips on how i should be able to feed them with my hand thank you!!!!

  • i left so hard that i knocked my self out ROFL !!!!

  • there will never be another bird like tui

  • If I were a parrot, I would have bitten her too.

  • oh somebody please rescue that poor bird!!!

  • was waiting for the moment when that poor bird jumps of that perch trying to commit suicide. but still great tips and really shows what NOT TO DO :) cheers

  • Although these are great tips I think as parrot owners get to know their birds they start to see the individual habits of their special companions. Like mine for instance will go to the top of its cage and slightly raise its wings while stretching its neck past the cage. I used to think this meant he was mad but I soone learned that it meant he wants to be picked up. If i dont pick him up he will cry a bit but then go in his cage and wait for me to come get him.

  • Step one: set the bird free in its natural habitat. Step two: enjoy!

  • All this lady wanted was to make a video of her "great" bird handling skills. I felt like biting her myself.

  • Some of the tips in this video... it's hard to believe any human with average intellect wouldn't already be able to tell... if a bird is growling at you that aggressively and showing so clearly with their body language they don't want to be touched or petted... you are just being a stubborn fuckface if you keep trying to approach it.

She was really lucky to have a bird that wouldn't close his beaks on her as hard as he is capable of, or there would have been blood.

  • Hi Andrew - I too have trained with Barbara, Susan Friedman & Karen Pyror, all proponents of postive reinforcement. Your comment about the negative posts is direcetly in line with the message of positive reinforcement. Brids and humans alike learn more, faster and for longer when treated with positive reinforcement. The woman in the video is no exception. Lets learn how to do this with our birds and then realize the importance of this technology for humans. Bravo Andrew!

  • Andrew,

I have been watching Tui vids for well over a year, actually right about the time you lost Tui. I hope you're doing well and I really hope you get another Grey. No bird can replace her, but it's so easy to see how much you love her...I think it would do your heart some good. Please consider joining a great forum for parrot lovers. It's called Parrot Crazy. Most of us have watched your vids. I can email you a link also. I'm out of space, I will post another comment to finish.

  • how much do Gray African Cost abou 70-80 £££

  • i got an amazonia (don't remember the english name, since i'm italian) but i only don't understand one thing: he is terribly lazy, but doesn't bite. he is always wanting to stay near me (he always flies to my room), but doesn't seem to go away (he basicly doesn't want to stay alone). i wonder if it's because i did something wrong (i think i viced him) but i think at least he trusts me much since he mainly wants to stay with me and not with my sister.

  • @janusan89 he thinks of you as his "flock". I have an amazon, and they are usually one person birds, meaning they pick one person to love and hate all others.

  • @janusan89 does he have any toys to play with and chew? Is there any variety to his day? Does he have a playstand? Parrots are highly intelligent and are easily bored. My parents amazons went crazy with excitement when they got new toys.

He may be bored, and when he's with you at least he gets to walk around and see things. Also you are part of his flock, and birds don't like to be separated from their flock.

  • whumb fucking woman confuses a dog for a bird

  • I love your bird! :) In fact, I just rescued an african grey and because of your videos and your bird, I have named my bird after yours... Tui. ;)

  • I just got a congo african grey the other day.

He seams to be not handled in around 11 years.

He is as old as me wich is 13.

He seams to try to bite me when I get around him. (When I sit down near his cage and let him out and talk to him.)

Any tips to get him not to bite aside from not going away when he nips and respecting his space?

  • @OFFICIALreaper5 I adopted an older bird. Give him some time...birds can be very traumatized with changes in homes or owners...it will take him time to adjust. Also, hopefully you do not have unrealistic expectations. Raising a bird from a young baby is sometimes different from adopting an older bird. My bird loves me, and does not try to bite me anymore, but I can't handle him the way I've seen people handle birds they raised from a chick - but it is different with every bird, you never know

  • @Bhav341 Hes actually coming around. I believe he will come around in 2 years or so.

  • @OFFICIALreaper5 great!! With mine, within a week he let me pet him, in a few weeks I could pick him up - & the times that he did bite me, it was more my fault, I did not understand his body language and tried to pick him up when I shouldn't. I was lucky that he decided so early to trust me, he came from a neglectful home. He's quiet for an Amazon, doesn't have a huge vocabulary, & hates other people so much that no one will come in my front door till I put him away. I love him anyway!

  • @Bhav341 My bird is a congo. he came from a woman who had him in a cage that I would never put any bird or animal in. He's 13 and 11 years of his life after two he's been in that cage. but he let me pet him like an hour ago (threw the cage) only side of his neck and a little on his head. I pet him for a split second though cause he can jerk back fast.

  • @OFFICIALreaper good sign!! thats what happened when I first brought Max home, he came down to one of the lower bars in the cage close to the side where I was sitting, and tentatively let me pet him. Talk sweet to him, pet him if he allows it, and give him his space for now.

If she kept him in a very small cage, she may not have taken good care of his other needs either. I'd try to get him to an avian vet to have his health assessed, and slowly get him on a good diet. Diet is very important!!

  • @OFFICIALreaper5 Best parrot diet:20% good quality seed mix, & 80% table food. Anything nutritious for you is good for him. NEVER any avocados or chocolate. Buy organic if you can so there will be no pesticides on fruit or veg, or wash them very well. Mine love pasta, bagels with cream cheese, rice, carrots, apples, papaya, string beans, mash potatoes, pizza, and whatever I am eating. Dab of vanilla ice cream as a treat occasionally, and Lafeber's Nutriberries seed pellets from PetSmart.

  • @Bhav341 Our vet got us a good long talk about that and Seeds are like icecream for your bird, so they can also be a good treat.

  • @Bhav341 I mean completly in 2 years

  • HA i live in lawrence now :P

  • I've been watching all of Tui's videos over the last few days. I will soon be adopting a rescue parrot who came from a home where she was beaten. I have nearly 10 years of experience with raising my two cockatiels but this will be my first time caring for and working with a parrot. I'm nervous and excited.

  • ok the sound of distress what can i do if the bird is always making it >>>>>we just got the african bird and its like scared of human ......how long isit going to take before it lets its guard down

  • Tui looks very cute id love to have a bird like him but i hav a parakeet

  • @621shelby parakeets can be tamed as well, check out the parakeet Sven on snoogly's youtube channel. I'm starting training with my 2 rescue parakeets and they are responding well. Small size, big personalities. Hopefully you can learn to interact with your parakeet, am sure you both will enjoy it.

  • where r u? We want you to get a new bird and do more videos!

  • hello i have got a cockatiel everytime i go near it or try to make it step up then it will just run away and fly somewhere or will bite me!! WHAT CAN I DO!!!!

  • What a douche this woman is in the clips. Very good examples of what NOT to do!

    - Owned by a Milligold macaw and Meyers parrot.

  • this lady is stupid...very irritating..if i was that poor african grey i would have bitten her fingers straight off..

  • @peacefroggy1 yah, that grey is being amazingly patient with her. I hope someone teaches her how to treat a parrot better.

  • @peacefroggy1 Please tell me what video everyone is talking about. Its my first time here and don't know my way around yet. Thanks to all.

  • I recently became a grey's companion. A female named Chiku, which means talkative in Swahili. I enjoy all the videos of Tui and am greatly saddened by your loss. The informative videos and links you have posted are very helpful. Thank you.

  • U lost ur bird, why would anyone listen to you then?

  • @yachtmojitoes why>? because the guy still can know a lot about birds even though he lost tui..look at it differently. If you tripped every time you walked would you confine yourself to a chair forever? People get back up and keep doing what they do. It's life.

  • This was soooooooo helpful!!!!!!! You are too talented to not get another bird! Good Luck!

  • wow that lady is messed up!

  • wHAT BREED PARROT ARE YOU CONSIDERERING????

  • wow im twelve and i see the problem myself!

  • wow the person that keeps trying to touch the bird and stuff is REALLY stupid even if you know ABSULUTLY NOTHING about birds you can still tell that they are pisssed

  • Sounds like there's a human parrot in the background.

  • im so glade you made this video there or lots of people out there that do not know how to treat there pets

  • thanks for all the tips I've wanted a grey for a while now and Im going to spend a few more months collecting info

  • I'm dumb as hell and even I know that if a bird suddenly makes a sound that I never knew it could, growling, I would get the message and back away. I mean maybe if the lady stopped trying to force the bird onto her hand around tip #3 I could be a little more sympathetic and say 'well she was new and people make mistakes' but ugh, she kept going and going on and on.

But if Andrew says she's learned a lot then that's good. But still there's beginner mistakes and then extreme foolishness.

  • screamo bird lol 3:41

  • doont u find that really annoying???

  • it's funny how he said "if your smart enuff", enuff? REALLY?!? are you 7 years old?

  • 1st thing: I must be the luckiest bird owner ever, my bird loved me RIGHT AWAY! NEVER tries biting me, ALWAYS lets me pet him.

    Now,

This goes for all parrots I assume? We have a Macaw and an African Grey where I live. So what DO you do as a form of "discipline?"

Just give it some space and talk softly for awhile, then try again in a few minutes? Or lock it in the cage for a bit? Both my solutions seem cruel.

    Thanx for the help everyone,

    Matt

  • I know it's not nice to criticize the owner, but seriously.... i have just been researching birds for a few days and i've already figured out that they are thinking beings and to have a good relationship, their wants (and don't wants) need to be respected. :)

  • This is the one thing im terrafied of about having a bird. if they never trust u. I just hope with right training all birds become trusting, loving and friendly.

Im going to be getting a bird this summer and am looking at as many videos i can.

  • What an obnoxious woman

  • @Aerizes no shit...!!!

  • lol

  • Andrew, your videos inspired me to get a grey a year-and-a-half ago. I keep him flighted, but closely watched indoors (and in a secure cage when outdoors). He's a Timneh, up to 84 words now. Well loved & cared for. Thanks for sharing your (sometimes difficult) experience with the rest of us.

  • Andrew, you did such a wonderfrul job training Tui. I hate that you no longer have her. I hope you will one day soon get another bird and if you do, please post videos. I enjoyed watch them

  • I'm sure u heard enough of it, but i'm sorry about ur bird mate.... its very admirable you posting this vid on here! thanks for that from the rest of us!

  • He's terrified of the camera and he is saying so. Get it away from the bird cant you see how alarmed he is! His eyes are huge, his feathers on his head are flat/down and hes growling.

  • that lady has no idea what she was doing! it drove me nuts and thanks for the info it will really come in handy!

  • it REALLY disgusts me when people like her have precious animals and NOT a clue how to care , train or anything for them !!! Someone clearly needs to take that grey AWAY from her !!! He even looks unhealthy , beak , feathers etc ..... geeeez this gets my blood boiling !!!!

Tui we miss you and always remember you have the BEST daddy ever !!! xoxo

  • Hey All, it has been a while since I checked out Tui's page, but I would like to just point out that we all do the best we can with our birds with the knowledge we have.

We live and learn and I am grateful I found footage to use. Lets remember what is most important and that is that we learn how to do better and while it is sad to watch, know that the lady in question also saw the video and has no doubt changed.

  • @kskiwi Wow, thanks Andrew. Birds aren't that different to us in their body language and vocal disapproval of someone pissing them off! Saw a documentary on Temple Grandin a while back & why animals have fears and reactions to things such as light, different surroundings, noise etc. That said, a Kakapo humping someones head is proof that parrots are awesome!

  • BTW, I finished that tribute I promised you. Been up for about two months now.

  • @kskiwi I rescued a CAG after I'd started watching your vids. Greys are very special birds that need to share their lives with special people. I know of a breeder who is in Cali that breeds the most wonderful Greys.. if you'll join us on Parrot Crazy you can 'meet' her. You will find a group of dedicated, friendly parrot people. I still cry everytime I watch the last vid of Tui. I'm so sorry that you've had to go without her, and very angry at anyone that may be keeping her from you. Update soon

  • By the way I wish the woman who was doing that to the poor bird should get her finger bit off

  • What the heck!?!?!?The lady that said "you don't want to come do you" well duh she must be a idiot the bird has all signs of not wanting to be fewed with!!!UGH

  • omg how mean is she i would be terrified and very angry i would hate my life with a screaming mum touching and screaming and annoying me and the little todler mimicing her wouldnt help

  • I am only 12 and I can tell that bird really hates her and is really unhappy

  • My God how stupid is she??!! I hate people like that. Clearly the bird was in distress and yet she kept going on and on while wondering why it was biting her. People who don't do their research on how to look after an animal shouldn't have one at all!

  • @BlackRose0813 I reckon she should get herself a pet tiger. "COME OOOOOOOOOOON! WHO'S A GOOOD..." and that'll be the last sentence she'll screech.

  • XD AHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHOHOHHAHAH TOTALLY! come on, take the meat! goooooooood kit-OMNOM! end of stupid lady. that'll teach her >:D and omg, i've been having trouble commenting on u tube, i'm amazed my comment acctaully showed up o.o~

  • mommy? more like tortere any smart person could see that the bird was in destress. people who dont understand that the animal wanted to b left alone shouldnt have a bird

  • I have seen your "tandrum" video with 'Tui" So funny and such a wonderful bird. What happened to Tui, How did u lose him? I'm so sorry. This women in this video obviously needs to pay attention to the tips shown.

  • yes i agree, parrot people are the most wonderful people on the planet!!

  • @thegavo

I feel sorry for that poor grey. Andrew(@kskiwi) and Nick (@oneneverlovesenough) are the two best grey owners on here. That woman should have watched more than she recorded. And the kid screaming in the background is no help to a bird's sanity.

  • how did you lose her?

  • @24pickles24 he wanted to free fly it, left it alone, and the bird flew away looking for him, 2 gusts of winds blew it too far away

  • You were an *amazing* dad to Tui. I hope that when I get a parrot, I can be half as good to it as you were to her. And I hope that you will be comfortable with getting another bird, because I can't wait to see you interact with him or her.

And that woman, holy hell. She treats the bird like a toy. If she did the same to a dog, she'd learn on the first bite not to mess with it! Whoever sold her this bird should have realized her attitude about it, because it's clear she sees it as furniture.

  • I also wanted to say that I'm so sorry that you lost your friend! I have 4 best friends that are birds, and would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to them... HUGS!

  • How much clearer could the bird be that he wanted to be left alone? I'm trying to find videos for my husband to learn how to get along with my Goffin. Without knowing it, he has encouraged some bad behavior and needs a little help learning about how they think and act. Cockatoos act somewhat different then Grey's, but the premise is the same. Thanks! :D

  • tui was so amazing. i'm really sorry.

  • sorry you lost tui.. she was such an intelligent bird and i admired her.. i released a ring necked parakeet into the wild when it reached a certain stage. hope they are doing well whereever they are...

  • im so sorry about u ,losing your tui , much luv to ya

the end of the vid wow that idiot is totally annoying that poor parrot, she duznt even get the hint, after all that time, the bird is like GET THE HELL AWAY FROM ME ...NOW!!!! but she carries on and insists on pissing it right off, she deserves to be bit severely haha

do u know her by the way or is it just some footage that ya found andrew? x

love from tash from Scotland x

  • I hope you have settled in and are now ready for another Grey.

We all know you won't make the mistakes again.

    Godspeed.

  • I'm not an African Grey and *I* wouldn't want to be around her. No wonder the poor bird didn't want to her to mess with him.

  • @missouristexan lol i was thinking what you said, made me laugh out when i read it, i bet she has swapped it out for a new frock by now anyways

  • andrew you would be great on television, with your own animal show!

  • soooooooo true

  • You did nothing wrong, tui was an amazing, highly intelligent parot and you just did one mistake,

i hope the next parot is another amazing animal

    good luck

  • Very good video. I so hate you lost Tui. I enjoy the videos. She was a great bird (as if you didn't know????)

  • I love your methods with African Greys. I have an African Grey who as soon as I brought her home she started to bite me. Could you by any chance post a video about how to stop an African Grey from biting. I wish for the kind of relationship you and Tui had.

  • I feel sorry to lose him. I hate when I see videos like that or that they die. About that growling, I think my african grey does it more louder and scarier, and she does it to kids that arrive in my house majority.

  • bird was turning super saiyan WAAAA!!!!!

  • I feel bad for the grey, but the woman doesn't seem to understand what she's doing wrong. Her reactions to getting bitten were all wrong (and really annoying). Thanks for posting this video; you can watch what to do all day long and still make these mistakes, so I'm glad you've posted what not to do.

  • Oh my god that growling is horrible run away run away

  • rofl

  • That poor bird, I hope it has a new home now, it made me sad hearing it growl like that the poor thing =[

  • Now that we know what NOT to do - what DO we do? Bird brains unite!

  • Wow, just read through some of the comments, and want to remind people not to be too negative towards the person whose video I used. She adopted the bird and was doing her best, (as we all do). No one with a parrot means to do bad by them.

  • ay up mate.i've had my grey about a month.i want to train her but wouldn't say she's a problem bird at all.not aggro in the slightest.would you still recommend the parrot problem solver.

  • The growling thing didn't tip her off? I've never owned one of these birds before and even I could tell it sounded pissed.

  • does the bite hurtfrom a parrot?

  • well,im a 14 year old parrot owner and my parrot likes to bite, she is doing it for fun,she thinks im are having fun because i scream for a while.Yeah it hurts, and sometimes bleed :]

  • ayyyyyy hw r rnt u from blood sweet and gears fox 8

  • Crazy woman

  • This video actually upset my birds and I turned it down! How sad when my birds are scared of the ladies voice! The babey in the background is kinda funny though, maybe the child will grow up and take better care of this bird.

  • stupid woman!

  • The woman's behavior and actions toward her bird are tragically, extremely common.

Thank you for sharing your mistakes with others. It may prevent someone from making the same mistakes. I see people harassing and taunting their birds all the time, and are oblivious and insensitive to their bird's distress.

If you get another bird, I hope that you will adopt rather than purchase a bird since there a so many homeless birds needing loving homes.

  • I don't mean to be horribly negative but I can't help but remark that I've never owned a bird.. have very little experience with them.. but even I can tell that poor bird in this video was absolutely petrified of the "owner" (I say owner because no creature "mommy" would be so critter body language ignorant) and the toddler screeching in the background was not helping that poor dear feel safe or comfortable. Unbelievable.

  • can someone take that bird off her!?

that voice scares me, and she cant htink that it screeching like that would make her think it was being friendly!?

  • as im watching the video i wanted to bite that silly woman too..i had an african grey which was absolutely viscious towards me..and i ended up rehoming him with a breeder...and even my bird didnt display this distress as i tried to hand tame him..i knew when to stop trying and leave him to settle...he never took to me even after 3 years....i was so sad and giving him away...but hes now got a mate and is happy..so im happy.

im so sorry for your loss...tui was such a joy to watch for me. xxxxxxxx

  • Oh and i think you should get a parrot again... you were great with Tui and I think another parrot somewhere out there deserves that kind of love....unless it's too soon... but I think it would be really nice toget another one. :)

  • hi, i have a 1 month old ringneck and doesnt want to eat like that by puting the seringe in his mouth, so my local petstore dude gave me like a small flexible plastic tube to take it down his troath and push the food directly in his stomach, do you think its a bad method? cuz im feelin pretty bad for the chick but in the end cant leave him without any food.

  • Sorry to hear about Tui! s for the example video that woman makes me want to bite her! LOL! Poor Grey... Thank you for your insight!

  • :'~( im upset now....i loved tui :(

  • That bird hated her, I think I do too.....

  • stupid lady

  • Whoa tajgboj, it's painful to watch, but it's not like she was beating it with a stick.

  • you really could have worded that better. you can't call someone "stupid" or "idiotic" and they write like that. we're all shocked by this womans behaviour, but thats just un-neccessary

  • im so sorry

  • Dumb Lady!!!! How stupid are you??!!!

  • i spare some cash, and ounder the time i teach me more about theese awsome birds! nice vid 5 stars

  • If that was my Grey, that woman would be bleeding profusely within about 15 seconds!

  • that ladies loud voice got my dog barking! poor bird! wish there was a BPS (bird protective services) to call.

  • Thank you for taking the time to put this video on. It is helpful and I will do my best not to make the same mistakes. As a first time parrot parent This kind of information is what will help in aiding my know how on the do's and dont's of parrot owning. Thank You

  • Wow, that's ANNOYING...I think I would bite her too.

And to think all tips came from just one video!

  • Proof that people shoud have to pass an exam before being aloud to own any animal! This bird is showing amazing character by not biting all her fingers off! It makes me ill to think of the conditions and treatment some animals have to put up with. Thanks Andrew for sharing, and hopefully, making more people aware of what not to do.

  • So, so wrong! Thanks for this reminder Andrew. I wish more people would learn not to push their birds into doing something it does not want to do.

  • ohhhhh tui....tui baby...I am about to adopt a 2 1/2 year old parrot named miko, he is soooo smart, loves to lay on his back and be cuddled, talks so much, stepped up on us imediately...i cant wait, he comes with a HUGE-MONGOUS Macaw cage and is going to cost us 1650, split between me and my BF...eeekk I cant wait, i went to see him tonight.Hes a beautiful CAG.The owner lives 6 minutes away, and will be my bird-sitter lol- yay!He loves Miko, its good

BTW,this lady is a freaking FOOL and annoying

  • Oh jesus, that woman needs shooting! If I was that Grey I would go straight for her eyes.

  • Oh wow I cant believe this woman continued to attempt to touch the bird. Hearing the video got my Congo Grey upset. How on earth can people see all the signs and continue to harass an animal that really at the time wants nothing to do with you, you wouldnt do it to a dog why do it to a bird! I have noticed in my home when my toddler is loud it is also upsetting to my parrots and when thats going on they want to be left alone.

  • Glad you posted, I've been wondering what became of you & Tui.

Your examples of what not to do were difficult for me to watch. Poor bird!

  • sorry 4 u Andrew.Losin Tui'd b similar,if not worse,than losing human 'mate'But they do come back+enough visitg UTube watchg parrot vids kno u+vets'l b abl 2trace U wiv ring numbr.Gathr her age meant u only owner+breedrs hav2hav yr details on record.Surprisd 2hear u movin.

Mental Woman!Bird lookd v.angry makin growlies.I cud C in his eyes he not happy,Tut!

Hope Tui retn 1day. Did UC RubysDad leftu 'Ruby Returns' vid?

Take Care. Parrot ppl R best!

    HappyXmas&NewYear! 2u+Tui,whrevr she may b xx

  • i hope u guys find eachother again , maybe some one in kansas will watch you and contact u !!!

  • That woman in the examples does not DESERVE that bird.

  • how old was ur green cheek cause mine is 24 sorry for ur loss im only 15 and my bird is like a brother im actually sad to here that . but i thought tui went missing im may is this old footige? or did he find him

  • The womand and bird in the example of what not to do actually made me physically uncomfortable to hear and watch - AND I had to turn down the volume. Reminded me of working around horses, who also appreciate a calm soothing approach.

  • Oh, and by the way, our little green cheek passed about a year ago. I was devastated, and thought that I would never be able to love another bird. My mom bought me a new one within less than a week of him passing, and I was not keen to the idea of having another bird, especially so soon.

However, I think when you lose a birdy companion, it's always best to have another, not to replace the bird, but to fill the hole.

I hope you get another bird soon, you make an excellent daddy!

  • I just ordered a book from her.

I was curious if you could help me with my African Grey. We've had her for about 6 months now. She was used for breeding for nearly ten years, and so obviously she is not the friendliest bird.

I know enough to back away from her when she is giving me these warning signs, however, whenever I approach her, she's never not giving me these signs.

Is it possible that she will ever be tamed?

  • hillary, if you aren't experienced with birds, you shouldn't try to tame a breeder. It might not be possible for anyone to tame it, and you would be better off with something less challenging. The bird may have been difficult (or was ruined by someone), and that's why it was a breeder. It might not be fair to the bird - it has already formed a bond with a bird, and bonding with people might really confuse it. Add the fact that the bird is mourning its mate, and you have a tough row to hoe.

  • I do have experience with birds, just not breeders.

The woman who sold us this bird bought her from the lady who had bred her. She lost her mate and that is why she was just kicked to the curb like that. It's awfully sad. D:

Anyway, we are in the process of getting her a mate, as per the advice of the breeder that I usually get my birds from. I'm nervous in her older age though that she might be victim to egg-binding, so I'm hesitant.
