Así me pasó con Vertigo, al inicio no me gustó mucho y después uff...sobre todo en el concierto, pero no sé, aun así me causa dudas...suena diferente...raro
I don't understand the mindset people have that you are only a true U2 fan if you like every song they've ever done. That's pretty ridiculous. It's like calling someone unpatriotic if they don't agree with every single thing their country has ever done.
this song is kind of, "vertigo" and "city of blinding lights combined". at first i did not like it, but if you listen to it a couple times, ITS GREAT!
Probably when he says you don't know how beautiful you are similar to city of blinding lights oh you look so beautiful. It's a great song. Different but really cool!
I'm also thinking that this song hasn't been that much of a surprise for me because it really is a mishmash of styles that U2 have already explored in the past.
For those who are saying it sounds like other bands, I'd argue it simply sounds like U2! It's a mix between Out of Control, The Ocean, Wire, Salome, Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me, Discotheque, their remake of the Beatles' Happiness is a Warm Gun, Vertigo and Fast Cars. Lyrically; same theme as Vertigo, this time less disguised.
I am a huge fan so dont take me wrong. Its the worst one of U2. Great song but not U2 type. You can listen it 2 times or 3 or 5 maybe but not 100 times. You get sick of it after a few times.
I'm coming around to this song. Unlike many past U2 songs, you can actually dance to this - it will go off live and would also sound great in a club!
I have a theory that the lyrics are much deeper than they may appear on face value. I think the song's essentially Bono ordering America to put on its blue suede shoes again and get its groove back.
Er, hmmmm. I'm still not sure what to think! It's been a day of listening to this a few times a day. I'm still trying to decide! I'm in agreement with a lot of you that this is very B Side-ish, but still catchy. I think this will sort of mirror The Fly. Very different to most fans, catchy, but not totally reflective of what the rest of the album will be. I think we're certainly in for better tracks. Lets hope.
"ELECTRICAL STORM" was the BEST "MAINSTREAM" U2 SINGLE ever released & it never made it onto an album...thats a (PRIME EXAMPLE) of how good even U2's B-sides can be! Dont judge an entire album you havent heard yet on the basis of a first single which is track No.6 on the album!
I CHALLENGE ANYBODY to listen to "ELECTRICAL STORM" & watch the video (directed by Anton Corbijn) & not be "AMAZED" at its LYRICAL, MELODIC & VISUAL GENIUS!
Amazing, how I drive my car tonight along with "Get on your Boots." It's simple; it's U2 unpredictable. No more prohibition, just the best U2's salad. Brazilian fan, familiar way to be crazy! If I don't go crazy tonight...
Keep in mind... this is their SINGLE... I'm the biggest U2 fan ever, and I never like their singles. Vertigo, beautiful day, elevation, if released by any other band would get 5 stars. As a U2 song, I give it 4, everybody, especially u2 themselves, holds them to higher standards. Any other band releases this song, and it's #1. Such is the price of being the #1 band of all time.
dude wtf?? this song is awsome! and their singles are great too. elevation is amazing! and vertigo is great too! Beautiful day?? omg amazing song dude!! what the hell is wrong with you?

it's got an edgy feel which some may like, some may hate. not the usual U2 sound, almost like a b-side from Pop. however unlike pop i rly like this track. it took some time to grow on me tho. so LISTEN TO IT A FEW TIMES and u might change your mind.
I love it. I was getting so tired of Bono's humanitarian tirades and departure from music that its good to see U2 put out a solid, pulse-pounding track you can rock out to. This makes "Elevation" sound like a linear rough draft. Better than the last two albums, in my opinion. Well played, sirs.
strange. I love the riff, and hate some other some sections. It's like trippy dance floor grunge. Overall, it's like their songs from Pop, and i did not like Pop. decent, at best.
1st listen and not an instant classic, but i can tell its gonna grow on me... bet that dirty bassline will sound awesome live come summer.. cant wait!
I <3 This song so much i grabbed the ringer at GetEveryRingTone . Com i freakin love that place! im so disappointed im a huge U2 fan and couldnt wait til i heard the new album but this is too much like all the modern bands hopefully the rest is good
Ignorance is bliss. Was lucky enough to here a snip on Sunday and was a little unsure. It will grow on you and will be a fantastic track live to open any tour in the summer just like Vertigo.
There's a lot of hysterical comments here, mainly from idiots. I'll admit I'm a little disappointed just now, but it's not complete shit, as some of these pricks on here are saying. It needs time to grow on you, and it'll probably do that and be a hit live. Also, from what I've heard it's clearly not indicitive of the album as a whole. I'm not loving it too much at the moment, but it doesn't deserve such an OTT slagging from a bunch of rabid cretins.
That's true about it not necessarily being what the rest of the album is like. On All That You Can't leave Behind I would almost always skip the album's singles and listen to the rest of the record. The singles just didn't do as much for me for some reason. Same thing with Vertigo.
I think it's a good song except for bono's high melody around 1:07. That piece is awfull. But the song itself is pretty cool, it sounds good and it has that popmart flow that I like so much. Can't hardly wait for the tour.
im so disappointed im a huge U2 fan and couldnt wait til i heard the new album but this is too much like all the modern bands hopefully the rest is good
It's growing on me. When I first heard it I was not impressed. But I can say that about some songs they've released in the past. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album!!!
Douchebag below me dont have a clue! I havnt really enjoyed many of U2s other word @ all, in fact i really didnt like em. But then they come out with such a different sound to the dross they usually come out with and do amazingly! good work!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
OMG this is the biggest piece of shit to ever come from a band.
Terrible, not even worthy of 1/10.
If this is supposed to be one of their main singles then their album is already dead and buried. They should just realise their failings and split the same as Oasis, both overrated bands that were only good when they started, nothing more.
After at few listens this song sounds great :D i can't wait fore the tour to hear U2 rock once again. This song i a experiment by U2, and some hate it and some love it. But some people Should listen to it a few more times before judging the song.
@GSB876 Well, if you listened to more than two songs, you would realize that Coldplay's albums are all extremely different (although I will grant that their first two are a little similiar.)
@supermind95 I actually have the first 3 albums and they are not very different at all. The problem i find with Coldplay is that the singles the release are actually not too bad but as albums go they are very uninteresting sadly. Fix you and the scientist are brilliant but the rest of the albums are 3/10 at best for me.
this is pretty pathetic. u2 know how to make music so why do they fart around tryin to make a new sound. its grim. i hope the rest of the album is better than this. htdaab was pish, so they better make it up to fans by making a decent album
come on guys...give it a few more listens - this is as one person already said : achtung meets pop - the comments remind me of everyone's reaction towards achtung - negative! but then it was on of the best albums ever. I personally find it very different from htdaab and atyclb - nonetheless, i can't wait for the tour - see you all in line!
This song blows me away :D ad first i was a little disapointed about this song. But diden't want to be sceptical :D So heard it a couple of more times :D and now i think this song rock :)
Glad to hear bits of "Pop" and "Achtung baby",meets "Vertigo" on this one, but i was hoping for something that was gonna blow me away from their new single. Either way U2 still rock. Cant wait to hear the new album.
Why are so many people saying that this is nothing like u2...they said themselevs this album is totally different from others. think of the transition from the 80s into achtung baby and ure on the right trak...good song
What is this? This can't be U2, its one of the least creative things I've heard from an amazing band. I don't know what Bono was thinking when he wrote this. Really stupid lyrics and feels like this album is going to be an after thought. But anyways, I hope that the albums better then this one song.
Maybe it's just me but the intro sounds a lot like Velvet Revolver's "She bulits quick machines" from Libertad album! One more thing, Rick Rubin worked with both bands on their last albums and both got rid of him!
Its different sounding, and while I dont think I dislike the direction they are going in - its just that it isnt a very good song. Hopefully the other songs on the album are better.
Its a BIG record and I was struck by the running order, that tracks 2 (Magnificent), 3 (Moment of Surrender), and 4 (Unknown Caller) ALONE are almost twenty minutes of music. Normally you find longer songs at the end of a record, but these come BEFORE you even reach Get On Your Boots. LYRICALLY the album is more PERSONAL than usual..even for U2...its FANTASTIC!
viva la vida is coldplays worst album??shut up you idiot!it is amazing and the biggest selling album of 2008 and won awards galore but im sure you know better
For those bashing the lyrics, U2 has personally stated that this is the new album's equivelant of Vertigo, so the lyrics aren't meant to be groundbreaking
This boots are made to walk, whats sexy about a vertigo b-side?? this song is a re-make of fast cars!! U2 has got the money, and the producers to record something better than this crap!!! A true hit hits you from the first time you listen to it! You dont have to warm up to it, this is no true hit! this is no the fly,no beautigul day,no city of blinding lights, no miracle drug!! OMG U2 solt out to the pop kids! kings of leon sex on fire is a lot sexierr U2 RIP, what do u guys think? They sold out
No es el sonido al cual estamos acostumbrados a oir, desde All That You Can't Leave Behind y How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. :)
Come on people!! I simply love this song. I got up at 2 am in my country to listen it and I loved it from the first seconds. This is U2 reinventing themselves. Personally, I loved Vertigo and Beautiful Day, but if this songle had been anything like those 2 songs I would've been disappointed. U2 is not a band that likes to remain static. I was too young when they released The Fly, but I'm pretty sure reactions were the same as with GOYB. While great, their 2 last albums were pretty "conservative"
I'm ready for a new U2 sound. Reinvention is what sets godd bands apart from great bands. It has made U2 the greatest band for 30 years (greatest of all time IMO). Remember Achtung Baby: it was REINVENTION. I'm confident NLOTH will be a great album.
Well, I will say this. The only album for which I instantly loved each and every song I heard the very first time was ATYCLB. Almost every other song on every other U2 album took a few listens to, at least, to warm up to. I guess maybe I've been a bit spoiled by U2, as of late. I know some may say that "good is the enemy of great" and U2 has had a lot of good songs since 2000. Maybe they're shooting for great. I just love Bono's song writing and this doens't seem to advance it much.
I agree, every song in ATYCLB was good and like you said, we are a bit spoiled by U2 lol.
They are such great artists that sometimes you take them for granted and think they can never fail, which-is what I think. But I am pretty confident U2 will deliver once again with the new album.
Like you, I also need to give U2 albums 5-6 listens to fully appreciate the beauty of its songs. I don't like GOYB for having great lyrics (which it hasn't), or because it has a melody that will become a personal favorite. I like because it shows a band willing to evolve, to experiment, to discover their full potential. Eno and Lanois have stated that Moment of Surrender and Breathe are U2's greatest songs, so before bashing this album just for its first single (not that you're doing it)...
Oh, and this really amazes me because (and I might be the only person who thinks this) I really think that Bono wrote his best song ever with "Windows In the Skies". From a lyrical perspective, if that's what draws you to U2, this is a really big letdown.
Remember "Pop"? I do...barely. Of all my U2 discs, it is in the best condition (due to lack of use). This reminds me of that. I have this funny feeling that, just as U2 followed up "Actung, Baby!" and "Zooropa" with the musical equivalent of a fart, I think they've managed to stink up the air after two outstanding CDs in a row, with this. I hope not but consider this bit of first single triva. ATYCLB="Beautiful Day"(Grammy), HTDAAB="Vertigo"(Grammy). Pop="Discotheque"(you get the picture)
omg I LOVE U2 but this is soooo bad. I heard it on the radio and my mom and I were like wtf? soo not Bono...then we heard the high notes, and died a little inside.
People need to stop freaking out. Some people are saying this better not be the best song on the album..is the first single ever the best? No it never is with U2. The whole cd is almost better than the first single half of the time. Trust me this cd, will be a great cd.
Okay I'm a HUGE U2 fan, I mean I own all their music, their U2 iPod and I even danced on stage with Bono before! But Sexy Boots??? The song is okay and catchy but it would be better with out the Sexy Boots part in my opinion. The rest of the album better be good. I still Love you BONO =)
i'm sure that most people listening to this are u2 fans.. and there seems to be a general consensus of discontent. I say it's because u2's last two albums have defined their style way way tooo much.
just take a minute to think about the huge changes u2 has gone through in the past. they are a band of revolutionary musical development.
Hmmmm, thought I was the only one who didn't like it. I hope this isn't the best song on their album. What the hell is Eno doing, after producing such a great album like Viva La Vida he does this crap?
its not nearly as good as other U2 songs... but this is better then most of the pop/ techno crap that comes out now... this kind of sounds like new shoes by Paolo Nutini, i just hope the rest of the album is not like this
It's weird... and I expected something else from the first single off this album... I think this is below them. Hope the rest of the album is more U2-ish.
I think it's pretty good. Think about this: U2 has been making music for over 25 years, and the fact that they can still make music that's this good is amazing. Now, I don't think anything will ever replace their 80's stuff, but people should give their more recent music a chance. Excited about the new CD. Hopefully, it will blow us all away.
I am a huge u2 fan but this is a completely, totally worthless song. The nadir of their singles career. The album is in trouble if this song is any indication.
Its very average even after a few listens. zooropa was different but the songs on it was quality song writing. I keep trying to find something good in this but cant. Reminds me of that Quantom of solace tune which was pathetic. Dont be surprised if this album is a stinker!!!

Its an experiement, you cant keep making the same music all the time like bloody Coldplay who's albums all sounds the same.
I quiet like it and its gonna sound awesome live !!!!
GSB876 3 years ago 6
@GSB876 Well, if you listened to more than two songs, you would realize that Coldplay's albums are all extremely different (although I will grant that their first two are a little similiar.)
supermind95 1 year ago
@supermind95 I actually have the first 3 albums and they are not very different at all. The problem i find with Coldplay is that the singles the release are actually not too bad but as albums go they are very uninteresting sadly. Fix you and the scientist are brilliant but the rest of the albums are 3/10 at best for me.

this is pretty pathetic. u2 know how to make music so why do they fart around tryin to make a new sound. its grim. i hope the rest of the album is better than this. htdaab was pish, so they better make it up to fans by making a decent album
ego19 3 years ago
come on guys...give it a few more listens - this is as one person already said : achtung meets pop - the comments remind me of everyone's reaction towards achtung - negative! but then it was on of the best albums ever. I personally find it very different from htdaab and atyclb - nonetheless, i can't wait for the tour - see you all in line!

anyone else think so??? or am i totally wrong?
im not a U2 expert.

Well, I think it's similar to Pop in its energy and experimentalism. But for me, GOYB is more rock-oriented than Pop's electronic influences

What is this? This can't be U2, its one of the least creative things I've heard from an amazing band. I don't know what Bono was thinking when he wrote this. Really stupid lyrics and feels like this album is going to be an after thought. But anyways, I hope that the albums better then this one song.
nickjoegac 3 years ago
U'r totally right! Messy lyrics, music sounds like scraps of Boy, Achtung Baby, Pop and HTDAA!
robilon 3 years ago
Maybe it's just me but the intro sounds a lot like Velvet Revolver's "She bulits quick machines" from Libertad album! One more thing, Rick Rubin worked with both bands on their last albums and both got rid of him!
robilon 3 years ago
Its different sounding, and while I dont think I dislike the direction they are going in - its just that it isnt a very good song. Hopefully the other songs on the album are better.

New Album - DJ Dave Fanning on "U2DOTCOM" said...

A true hit hits you from the first time you listen to it! You dont have to warm up to it, this is no true hit! this is no the fly,no beautigul day,no city of blinding lights, no miracle drug!!

While great, their 2 last albums were pretty "conservative"
mauferran 3 years ago 3
I'm ready for a new U2 sound. Reinvention is what sets godd bands apart from great bands. It has made U2 the greatest band for 30 years (greatest of all time IMO). Remember Achtung Baby: it was REINVENTION. I'm confident NLOTH will be a great album.
mauferran 3 years ago 4
Well, I will say this. The only album for which I instantly loved each and every song I heard the very first time was ATYCLB. Almost every other song on every other U2 album took a few listens to, at least, to warm up to. I guess maybe I've been a bit spoiled by U2, as of late. I know some may say that "good is the enemy of great" and U2 has had a lot of good songs since 2000. Maybe they're shooting for great. I just love Bono's song writing and this doens't seem to advance it much.
sdavids5670 3 years ago
I agree, every song in ATYCLB was good and like you said, we are a bit spoiled by U2 lol.
They are such great artists that sometimes you take them for granted and think they can never fail, which-is what I think. But I am pretty confident U2 will deliver once again with the new album.
u2MacPhisto09 3 years ago
Like you, I also need to give U2 albums 5-6 listens to fully appreciate the beauty of its songs. I don't like GOYB for having great lyrics (which it hasn't), or because it has a melody that will become a personal favorite. I like because it shows a band willing to evolve, to experiment, to discover their full potential. Eno and Lanois have stated that Moment of Surrender and Breathe are U2's greatest songs, so before bashing this album just for its first single (not that you're doing it)...
mauferran 3 years ago
I think it's fair to give this great band an opportunity based on the whole album
mauferran 3 years ago
Oh, and this really amazes me because (and I might be the only person who thinks this) I really think that Bono wrote his best song ever with "Windows In the Skies". From a lyrical perspective, if that's what draws you to U2, this is a really big letdown.
sdavids5670 3 years ago
where's my boots!?! i want my boots!
vhuskey 3 years ago
Remember "Pop"? I do...barely. Of all my U2 discs, it is in the best condition (due to lack of use). This reminds me of that. I have this funny feeling that, just as U2 followed up "Actung, Baby!" and "Zooropa" with the musical equivalent of a fart, I think they've managed to stink up the air after two outstanding CDs in a row, with this. I hope not but consider this bit of first single triva. ATYCLB="Beautiful Day"(Grammy), HTDAAB="Vertigo"(Grammy). Pop="Discotheque"(you get the picture)
sdavids5670 3 years ago
omg I LOVE U2 but this is soooo bad.

Martybonilla 3 years ago
i'm sure that most people listening to this are u2 fans.. and there seems to be a general consensus of discontent. I say it's because u2's last two albums have defined their style way way tooo much.
just take a minute to think about the huge changes u2 has gone through in the past. they are a band of revolutionary musical development.
this is a part of the next chapter.

saberknight911 3 years ago
I think it's pretty good. Think about this: U2 has been making music for over 25 years, and the fact that they can still make music that's this good is amazing. Now, I don't think anything will ever replace their 80's stuff, but people should give their more recent music a chance. Excited about the new CD. Hopefully, it will blow us all away.
musicrover531 3 years ago
The music is okay, it's just Bono's whiny voice that is annoying.
