I had a credit card sized solar calculator in the '80s with no battery, so it's hard to believe that a calculator was considered a high-drain device only about ten years earlier. Crazy. I know glowing LEDs took more power than passive reflective LCD, but there was nothing mechanical, like a cassette player.

Classic 1970's Fave Commercial when I was a Teenager watching Robert Conrad as Major Greg " Pappy " Boyington in Black Sheep Squadron. Two Thumbs Up!! 1970's 4 LIFE!!!! Peace and HOOAH!!
I tried to knock it off......and that was a big big big mistake.......I thought is was all just a joke, but NO, this is one company who take's a lot of pride in their products, something you are not going to see in Corporate America today.
Robert Conard was & still is one of my hero's. He's the reason I'm in the Martial Arts today!! Mr. Conard..... Thank You for being the father figure I never had!! You help change my life! Stay Strong!!
Prior to the beginning of 1980, the brand of this alkaline battery was Eveready Alkaline PowerCell . . . eliminate it! Eliminate it!
But it still lasted extra long unlike of 9-Lives Silver Flashlight or General Purpose Batteries / Red Transistor Batteries that were not alkaline or Heavy Duty Flashlight / Toy / Transistor Batteries.
Awesome! You'd have to be a fool to fuck with Robert Conrad!

Well 33 years later you can. Eveready batteries are cheap now. Duracell and Energizer can kick the shit out of them.
