  • People see this show and think its about war and a fighting ship. It isnt. Its about loving someone. Loving them enough to lose all selfish thoughts. To protect them with you life if you have to. That is what Yamato is about.

  • Just love this old show :)

  • Wow, *Deus* *Ex* *Machina* much?

  • dont upset TRILANA daughter of the Duchess of Oldenberg

  • why is it that all the other women besides nova end up sacrificing themselves in this series first starsha than sasha and now trelaina i feel so srry for all the other guys in this series cause its like the writers only wanted derek and nova to find happiness

  • Derek Wildstar And Mark Venture Both Had Awesome Taste In Women. Also "You Need Not Sacrifice The ' ARGO' , I Will Fight Zordar" ! She Kicked Ass! Toast, Gone And Goodbye Zordar!

  • this was one of my most favorite cartoon ever , i remember i use to run home from school to make sure i don't miss one show . memories i'm now 41 yrs old .

  • Marry Derek WildStar ? YES !!!

  • One of my most favorite moments ever in animation. More adult-focued, but it sure worked for America's youth as well. Carttoons aren't all just comedy, but drama and romance too!

  • @Vlunney I hear ya lol

  • This was just the best kids show ever! I remember hauling ass home after school to catch this cartoon. The story is just great!!! Now in Dec 2010 StarBlazers is a movie!!!!! I know from everyone here in USA will make it more than possible for this movie to make it's way over here!!

  • @Themaxima8777

we ALL did. if it hadn't been so good along with my math teacher being so freaking hot I might have passed 5th grade math:)

  • That Zordar laugh... used to scare the sh** out of me as a kid!

  • Trelaina is so doable! Ok, that was bad I know, but she is hottie blonde irresistible.

  • I loved the final look as the battered Yamato flew off

  • Just great stuff back then. The Comet Empire season was the best. Action packed, with an unforgettable ending.

  • I never understood the ending. They spent all that time going to find Trelaina, and she didn't need their help. In the end, we find out she could have taken out Zordar all by herself. Eventually she did, but not before thousands died and she arbitrarily decided to take action.

But doggone that was a cool line.... "Zordar, I have come because you need me."

  • I watched this in Hong Kong in the late 70's. Trelena was called Theresa and Mark was called David. She was this great goddess figure thatstem from ancient Japanese folklore. The artist loved to draw slim beauties in long hair. Trelena was my favourite.

  • This cartoon opened up my imagination, I would run home from school everday just to watch it no matter what the conditions where. It was pretty deep for a six year old, the music was so great. Todays kids cartoons a crap! Im 34 now and seeing these clips really does me good my son watches them with me but theres so much to have to explain. I became a good artist drawing those ships

  • Goddammit Trelena

  • "Zordar, I'm here to return you to the Cosmos". I love it! See, Zordar, this is what you get for trying to fuck up everyones shit.

And keep in mind that Star Blazers pretty much started the whole anime trend back in 74. for the times, both Nova and Trelaina were hot. Although I think I prefered Starsha of Iskandar.

  • wow I almost remember every word & effect from over 20 yrs ago! when i was a kid starblazers made me dislike regular cartoons because of the way they designed them. the figures had shadows, the background had a lot less repeating & there was a story behind each that continued on. Back in those days, i had 2 bike like a bat out of hell 2 get home 2 watch it & still, would miss the 1st 5 min's... well vcr's wer'nt the norm back then but & clock timer & a tape recorder let me envision what i missed

  • Trelaina's voice was always annoying. Anime girls are usually good looking... Trelaina and Nova, not so much. lol :P

  • Baby, remember how I was say'in this was our last mission an all, an' I needed you and shit, and then we were gonna, you know...let's not move too fast on that now, OK?

  • Thank you. Thank you so much for these links.

  • This scene from the point when Nova joins Derek on the bridge to when Trelaina appears was recut from the Japanese original, using that wonderful piano and strings piece to accompany the launch of the Argo on her final flight. I've seen the original and the recut was more effective in evoking an emotional impact than the funereal dirge of the original Yamato theme. A lot of care was taken by the Claster editors in altering that scene while leaving the core of it intact.

  • This was the way I remembered the Starblazers series ending, and it was fantastic. It really sent the story out on one of the best conclusions ever for a series which was more mature than every other cartoon series then out in its time here in the 'States. I don't even acknowledge the third series. As far as I'm concerned, THIS was the true conclusion to the epic of the Star Force.

  • I always found Trelaina a bit painful but loved the cartoon.

  • @HeatherOfOz Why is that, becuse she does goood??

  • @thebearcat62 why do you say that?

  • @HeatherOfOz I said that becuase you said," i found Trelaina a bit painful", I wish they'd redo this all in today's technolgy and keep the feel of the story do you know if that real-life version of "Starblazers" was ever released in America?? it was suppose to be released somwhere 12-09-09 I think.

  • @thebearcat62 and I asked why you said "@HeatherOfOz Why is that, because she does goood??" because it was a horrible assumption on your part.

And no, that is not the reason I found her painful.

Voyager have told me that no one has picked up the real life movie for release into the English speaking world. It'll be released in Japan only, later this year.

  • Sweet. I remember watching this back in the day.

I now understand the Yamato vs Argo connection. Heck I remember the first episode.

My great uncle fought in that awful war. I understood only in stories what he went through. Horrible stuff.

I had a foreign exchange student from Japan as a friend. Jungi Kowazoomi ( Sorry for butchering it man) I would love to find him.

Let them have there flag ship back.

Maybe the Arizona could help this time as well. To mend wounds

    I smell a movie here!

  • Wow, this was the animated soap opra of my childhood years, what a great time it was, those memories are with me forever.

  • not such a bad idea. the yamato has negative association with japan's cowardly sneak attack. reborn it gets a new name a chance to redeem itself and japan if you look at this series from a metaphoric point of view. the argo in greek legend is a noble ship.

  • When they make a live action Starblazers Janel Moloney (i.e. Donna Moss/West Wing) should be Trelena.

  • "Nova, it's not you babe, it's me." "I mean, it was fin and all that but, you don't seriously think I can settle down with your underslung-animated ass?"

  • Not to mention her flat-barely A cup chest!

  • Wow, I hadn't seen this episode in over twenty years, but it's amazing how much I remembered about the end of the show. It made quite an impression on me when I was little!

  • @gnatx Me too!!! I LOVED this show!!!

  • @gnatx Yes.

  • "Zordar, I have come becasue you need me" - the Look of horror on Zordar at 6:28 - Priceless!!!

  • WOW... it's Rick and Lisa of Robotech!!!

  • You mean the Robotech that came on 10 years AFTER Starblazers? :)

  • Yep, and Robotech was the First Anime to introduce Human Operated Mechanized/Transforming Warriors, which lead to the Gundam Series and other Animes involving Mecha to this day and Code Geass is a good example of that.

  • Gundam was actually out before Robotech

  • Yeah I know that, some one else schooled me.

  • @jerryscullion FREAGIE-DIG!!!!! YOU GOT IT!

  • @jerryscullion Yep that's correct!

  • LMAO!

  • Wildstar: "Soon, when we are done, we will spend the rest of our lives together..."

Nova: "Ah, could you rephrase that... the whole 'rest of our lives' thing?

Wildstar: Well, you didn't really believe that whole "put on auto-pilot thing, did you? I mean, only American children would believe that."

Nova: I think I hear somebody in the escape hatch... ah... I have to check it out....

  • 2:04 "I'm your co-pilot Derrik."

Like, no shit Captain States-the-Obvious. xD

  • I really think they should have left that alone, like the Japanese version.

  • "Zordar, I'am here because you need me...I'am here to return you to the cosmos."

    Beats Dirty Harry hands down.

  • Trelena...a wonderful character. She's the one who held my interest throughout this whole cartoon series while watching it with my grandchildren. She has a unique voice. I can still hear her calling out to Venture over the communications console: "Maaaark?"

  • And I hated her voice! I think I would have appreciated her character more if I did like it. It used to GRIND my ears!

  • it was the original BSG done right!...

now of course will get RM BSG anime redux in 5 years.....ugh

  • it was the original BSG done right!...

now of course will get RM BSG anime redux in 5 years.....ugh

  • it's really unfortunate-the USA videotapes released of the series have a VERY dark picture, and even a little green! Compare this scene with the japan DVD version....

  • I watched this growing up. . . . it's still cool. My kids will love this.

  • same feelings with most here, was awesome show

  • The 1978 film have a different final.. - Derek and trilena dies for love.. but there´s a message of rebirth... like the emotion that flares on us here same way.. their ´spirit´/beauty will be born again on other eyes from the generator Mother Earth.. Derek dies happy trusting that. Get it searching ´Farewell Yamato´ in EMULE (2h32min film)

  • While my older sister was watching soap operas, this was my introduction to drama at 9 years old in the late 70's. Nothing comes close to this level of dialogue in anime to this day. even the music was atmospheric! I remember being brought to tears during the end of the series, I had gotten that close to the main characters!

  • Right on!

  • Trelena restored Earth, but it's not clear if she restored the Moon.

  • Brings me back to may childhood. Watched this back in the early 80's. Made me late for school in 7 and 8th grade. Damn 27 years goes by quick!

  • The best Anime of all time, I say. I have all three series(the bolar wars sucks, though).

  • My first japanese import love.

  • Wow!!!! What emtion. I. Fond memories. I haven´t seen anything as good since.

  • 100% AGREE

  • Awesome.

  • Trelayna looks like Amber Frye, that bimbo girlfriend of Scott Peterson.

  • That sounds exactly what Bill O'Reilley would say;not Keith Olberman. Ease up on the girl, eh? She didn't know that piece of shit was married or that he had planned to kill his wife. She was just tryin' to get a little action(ak-shawn). And I really hate the fact he was a golfer. Come to think of it, so is O.J. Simpson.

  • Yeah, but I whack my carrot to Billo's picture every night.

  • I doubt that you are the Keith Olbermann of MSNBC

  • all those years ago,and there's still a little kid in all of us

  • while they are disscussing they love life the Commet Empire has destroyed 5 more cities, think they could stop them first then have this conversation

  • Goodbye Starforce, goodbye my loved Nova, Starsha, Trelena, but most of all goodbye my beloved battleship Yamato, my heart will always be with you.

  • Back in 1981, when I watched this finale, I was 11 years old.

I almost built my whole life on it; hobbies, reading even my job.

    Good bye Starfoce...:(

  • I share a similar sentiment, this show was ahead of its time...and nothing since can hold a candle to it.

  • I was 10... This series was my fantasy escape from life when I was that age. I agree this was staggering.

  • Its amazing how many people agree on this....I learned as much if not more about morality and "the good guys" from Starblazers as I did from church as a kid.

  • I defintiely agreewith you on that. The show was pretty deep for a kid's show, but in Japan it was for a much mature audience. But it had a good message about love, friendship and honor. Most cartoon shows were trying to sell you something.

  • I spent the last 27 years of my life wondering "what was that cartoon I used to watch after school?"(well not ALL those years)but seeing the captain reminded me..

  • we watched this everyday after school. riveting! i dont know if kids today have the attention span to watch a series this long.

  • I cannot believe how great this series was. Or how great this scene was. Nothing compares to this show.

  • I use to watch this 27 years ago on Australian TV, such memories and now looking bak I think how did I watch this lol

  • I used to watch this when I came home from school. All I can say is WOW. Such a flood gate of memories.

  • Did the Starblazers get back to Earth with that cosmic DNA or whatever it was that they were going for?

  • Exactly as I remember it 25 years ago.

When I came back from work I remember this

cartoon and I asked myself "how I didn't

thought to search for it at youtube"?

    And here it is.

  • I almost cried when I watched this. The last time I saw this episode was exactly 28 years ago (I was 7) and it was the last episode I ever watched of Star Blazers. They didn't show season 3 where I lived. I remember so vividly the line with Trelaina saying she would send Zordar "back to the cosmos" and my memory was accurate. Nostalgia doesn't get any better than this for me. Thanks for posting this.

  • "Nova you ARE going to Merry me" - Nice Jedi mind trick.

  • I haven't seen any current anime that measures up to this. Full Metal Alchemist is OK, but I think everything is rendered by computer now. Not the same.

  • I'd say with a fair certainty that the guy doing Derek Wildstar's voice also did the voice of Goku on Dragonball Z. I could be wrong, but Wildstar sounds a LOT like Goku.

  • No, there is a 25 to 30 year difference, Star Blazers was dubbed by professional commercial voice actors in NY, and Dragonball Z was dubbed in Canada by cartoon VA.

  • I loved this cartoon so much back about 10 years ago I bought part 1,2 and the Bolar wars for about $300.00 lol lol Yes i did!!! and that was on VHS tape lol lol

  • Caraca não estou entendendo xongas nenhuma, alguém me diz onde estar a tecla SAP ?

  • Caraca eu não tinha visto !

  • A work of art...pure genius...

  • This was an after school show I always looked forward to nearly 30 years ago. Thanks for the memories.

  • It's BEEN 30 years for me, bud.

I was 13 when this came on American TV in 1977 and it's just as good now as it ever was. This was quite literally a space soap opera, and the drama and emotional quality was something NO cartoon can reproduce to this day.

  • Good point Shawnster,,,I can't watch any cartoon that's on TV today...this stuff was (and still) is riveting

  • Hi SublimeAce5, nice to meet you!

Yep, I'm a real live old school fan at age 43. And joining youtube is the best move I ever made..be it Marine Boy, Ultraman, of Frankenstein Jr, I can find it all here. Great to see so many of you confessing your love for retro with the same conviction! :)

  • I remember my parents had divorced and I moved in with my dad and new stepmother...this show was my escape from that reality. I couldn't wait for it to come on tv after school!!!

  • Thats the strangest story!! Mostly because it is so almost exactly my story too.. only I lived with mom instead of dad.But I loved the way I would feel when this show would come on after school and I could escape the situation.... Wow small world!!

  • ahh....there in love....

  • Derek never does it alone, Nova! *heh heh*

  • AMAZING

  • Still say it's the best cartoon ever. I've heard there is a live action movie in the works. God I hope that is not true.

  • Gotta love that, zorda IS TEARING the earth a new ass and them two are planning thier hunny moon:S:S

  • I loved this show!!!! Thanks for the memories

  • gwt the condoma ready :)

  • SAUDADES,de um tempo dourado, que não volta mais! :_(

  • I remember this ending. I hadnt seen it in.... 15 years!!!! GOSH!!!!

  • Great in every way....keeps my childhood alive....God bless

  • My first japanese import love.

  • the best and the final stage of the missoion truely a classic sence comet empire zod you got fucking owned buy time to pay the papier

  • "Zordar -- I have come because you need me!" What a great line. Let's not for get a great orchestral score, as well.

    I miss hand drawn anime.

  • Lol ya that also struck me as a particularly bad ass line right before you put the smack down on someone. Love the reaction to, sheer terror from such a hard ass MOFO!

  • I remembered watching this when I was a kid back in the mid 80's, This was one of the best Amines that had a good storyline and plot!...Awesome battle scenes too!.

  • Trelania was the babe!!

  • greatest cartoon ever great stuff

  • ...mostly, I wanted to be with you.

  • You have got to love the classics!
