Most important thing in games its not graphics not even multiplayer. Its atmosphere. Look at Quake, Doom 3 or Half Life especially first one they had sharp, manly atmosphere without any hollywood bullshit with those ,,mature'' stories. Mature my ass whats so mature about story line full of cliches like ,, im back guyz r u suprised '' or yelling ,NOOOO'' when somebody dies. There are some good fps games like Killzone and Resistance but this is still not it if you know what i mean.
This is a classic !!!!! I miss the days when PC games were great like this. Consoles have destroyed PC gaming. All we get now are dumbed down console ports. I don't even bother playing any new games. 98 percent of games out now are garbage. Being a PC gamer, the only titles worth playing now are PC exclusives. Unfortunately, they are an extreme rarity these days. I would much rather settle for lesser graphics, and not have to deal with button bashing, lackluster story, and QTE.
I just love old school shooters the way id used to make 'em. Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake. That's what I grew up on. Haven't played RAGE yet, but I'm sure it must be better than today's Camper of Duty: Modern Lagfare games
Makes me feel old, all you guys saying this game is old, lol. I was 16 when Quake 2 came out. I remember when this was the state of the art! It's still a great game now. FPS's were not a dime a dozen yet, it was only really id's ones (Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake) and a few other clones (Duke Nukem 3D, Hexen, Rise of the Triad, etc) at that point. These days, every other game that comes out is another FPS. It's getting tired. But this was back when FPS was king.
You think you feel old? I was 20 when this was first released and later even contributed a few levels to one of the level expansion packs. I played Q2 for days at a time.
It's not long when I played this through on Hard mode.. usually i get frustrated and quit if i get stuck or killed more then 5 times.. but quake was different.. the graphics maybe not are top notch compared nowadays games.. but the gameplay is polished to the max.. something that never fps games seem to lack BADLY!
@KrazyDanProductions I think this video was made with Steam's version of Q2 which may behave differently. I have another Q2 video which was made with the KMQUAKE2 engine which records just fine. (I tried to edit KMQUAKE2's media files to try and make the blaster, railgun, smoke, and bullet decals to look more like they do in Q2 so if your KMQUAKE2 looks different than mine, that's why)
Hmm - I saw a video where gamers complained about all the 'tips and hints' that modern video games got. Like they are made for stupid people, is the argument.
then I see this video: "You can crouch here" "press up to move up to the ladder'.
@JoshuatheKodiak Ah, the old hand holding vs. no hand holding argument. Windows vs. UNIX.
Myself, I like to believe that there's a holy grail quest for a balance of the two.
As for the help messages mentioned in this video, just think of how many people actually read them. By my guess, not many, since the game doesn't force you to read them.
@PlasmicRedX An addendum to that. When this game came out FPS's were still not dime a dozen like they are now. and ladders and "crouching" were not common traits in shooters of the time.
@dirkdiggler15061985 Interesting that you'd say so, because, when I made the video, I wanted to play it how I originally played when I first learned to play Quake II. Which also demonstrates Quake II's stealth elements.
It's only in Multiplayer or when attempting to show off in Singleplayer that most people turn into bunny hopping elite professional gamers.
@PlasmicRedX It's true, you could play Quake II fast or tactical and stealthy. I just always prefered "Brain-Off + run + give pain with the gun" mode. and i miss it in new games :-( btw. nice video
@SuperSwedishBastard Those are what we call COD Fanboys, who only enjoy COD for graphics and online gameplay. Games like this always have you shoot badguys while solving puzzles and grabbing a huge arsenal of weapons and using them, and that's fun. Today's games usually slap a linear campaign with only 5 levels total and you jump through multiplayer with an immature yet laughable community of 8-year-olds.
Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great game series such as Quake. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
You've brought me back to the late 90's with your Quake 2 fandom. Keep up the good fight, especially the Memphis area. We're ready for 2000's Memphis LAN parties. Contact me at goodwrench3rcr@yahoo.com. Please let me know of any formal movements.
@TheMorbidAsshole no, definitely quake 2 was'nt a sequel of quake 1, it's only because of its name(id software was too confused to get the name, so they use quake 2 as its name)
I remember playing this game on my play station 1. I had a lot of fun with it. Eventhough today looks good to me. Aaaah i love the feeling i get when a watch a video of an old good game i used to enjoy.
@Lastnightzombie I've bought Quake 2 twice in my lifetime. Once when it came out, again for steam. I still have the original disc it came on. I also have the Quake 4 disc that has Q2 on it. So I have it in 3 forms.
@Lastnightzombie Dude, I have a video that says it's the best game in the world. What do you think? You deserve this type of answer for your incompetence.
@Lastnightzombie I don't think you understand the name of this game we're playing here. I'm not a salesman. I'm not trying to sell you this game. Here, this is my little corner of the internet where I "worship" quake 2. I don't care if you want to buy it. I don't care to tell you if it's worth buying. Here, Quake 2 is the best game in the world, and that's the bottom line.
@Zeelpawa2 I have played on Evolved before many times as well as many others like KMQUAKE2. They are neat but I still love the old graphics the best. Games were so much better back in the old days, so much better, like Quake II, best game soundtrack ever IMO.
Real gamers play this instead of for example MW3 when it comes out.
