Just like a singer can't be assumed gifted enough theatrically to play another singer just becuase she can sing like her but has no acting skills. It's the life story, it's not all performance and voice matching.

@sgelsey IT ISN'T IRRELEVANT! ...if a singer portrays another singer in a bio-pic then more likely than not, the singer that's doing the acting will actually be doing the singing as well, there will be no voice-overs and in my opinion, like I said, Fantasia does not have the highs that Patti LaBelle has, AND she looks nothing like Patti LaBelle...evidently you didn't read my comment because I wasn't talking about an ACTOR that can't sing, I was talking about a SINGER who can sing, Fantasia.

@mac48203 It is IRRELEVANT dear. If Fantasia can't play Patti because of vocal range, Jasmine Sullivan DEFINITELY can't play Ella because her range is not where Ella's range was. Get it together. Tons of people have succesfully played the roles of singers who's range they could not match blow for blow. She does not look like Patti though, but that could be worked out with some good art work.

It's been done. It's not as far fetched as you're saying it is.
