For all those asking. Rockbox works on all iPod 'classics' upto 5.5G. Nano 1G. and all iPod Minis. There is an experimental 'alpha' version for Nano 2G. Rockbox does NOT work on Shuffles, iPhones or Touchs.

I use Rockbox on an iPod 5G 80GB. Found it to be extremely stable, gives great sound, better than the Apple Firmware. Very customisable. NO need for iTunes. Supports a lots of codecs including WMA, FLAC and Vorbis. Hell one can even emulate a Gameboy or Spectrum with it. Even has Doom :)

and the rest experiment it converts them to mpg which is the only thing rockbox can run butits KL also because of the small size of the screen you can almost see it better than on your PC/Mac screen

guys, i have nothin against iPods, i think theyre awesoe. But in my opinion buy a Sansa Fuze or a Sansa View. they have the exact same features as the ipod at like half the price. for example, i bought my Sandisk Sansa Fuze 4GB at Radio Shack for $82.99. The iPods there were $149.99!! way cheaper to buy a sansa. same features at half the price!! im not gettin paid to say this or nothin its just y opinion.

FYI you don't have 'to make it into partitions'. There is a tiny boot-loader and Rockbox itself occupies about 5MB in a folder called .rockbox.

The best thing about it is the freedom. The freedom of not been locked into using iTunes. The freedom to use a huge variety of codecs and not just the ones Apple tells you must have. The freedom to have a huge variety of free games, and not DRMd $5 a game from iTunes.

I loves freedom, I hate locked down proprietary.

2. plug ipod into computer and enable disk use feature on itunes

3. select your ipod on "My computer"

4. download an mpg movie file

5. drag and drop the movie file on the root of your ipod.

6. boot rockbox , go to files and your video should be there

Um, well it depends on your iPod but if you have a type compatible with MPEG-4 or another video format (touch, video, nano 3g, etc...) you can buy them off iTunes or simply convert them with your own sofware. If you rip the video(s) off of You Tube most will come off in .flv format which you would have to convert.
