I love this punky version. First found it on one of those '60s punk comps that came out in the early '80s. The first version I heard was by '60s Australian slide guitar virtuoso Rob E G. - a true classic. Recently I was amazed to discover that Herman's Hermits (?) did a version that rocks damn near as good as this one. I did some research and found that it was written by the American songwriter Wayne Shanklin. Many famous mainstream artists have recorded it but this is still my favorite.
