I've been inking side to side mainly because it feels better and the lines look better.
I use falcon Esterbrook nibs from ebay have a stockpile of 10+ boxes. Thinner lines look better then thick lines with a dipe pen but you have more control with a brush if you have the patience which I don't have. That hand nib rules btw =)
@DarkR0ze I believe you can take your cartridges in and have them refiled at an art store. There are many types of cartridge pens, and because I do not enjoy using them, I don't really know much more than what I have said in the tutorial. Sorry I couldn't me more help. Thank you for watching!
Nice little tutorial. Gotta agree that the music was a little distracting, though. Just choose non-vocal music next time and bring the level down a little bit and you'll be fine.

@KissMyChristin I use waterproof ink as well, and it makes no difference... hot water is still useful, but you must remember to wash you nib immediately after use. There are dissolvants out there that you can buy and use, but I have never owned any myself. Hot water has worked for me.
I recently received a set of quills with different types of tips.
Is there a tutorial on how to put the tips and quill together and if this tutorial applies for the quills too (I hear quills are normally sharpened. But this is like a combination of quill & modern dip pen...)
@soppaNnN Yeah... wasn't too sure of whether or not to add music to videos with me speaking (seems to be distracting), and I was also looking for tracks that are the right length to my videos. I personally didn't mind this one so much, but I also realize that if you watch this, you are kinda forced to put up with the music (due to the fact you kinda have to listen to me talk, while the other videos can be muted). So sorry about that, I don't put music behind my tutorials anymore. >_<
@ProudYaoiFan Most dip pens have a hole, but I'm unsure if it is necessary to flow of the ink or not. Depending on the shape of the nib, I will use this hole as a measurement for how deep to dip the pen. I do not think it is too important, but I can't be sure unless I was able to work with nibs without the hole myself.
@scribblingangel No prob. I use fountain/cartridge pens, mostly for writing, and knowing how they work is key to maintaining them (obviously); many things between dip pens and FPs are the same, except for the lack of a feed and a built-in inkwell on a dip.
@scribblingangel You can try one without a hole by using a quill, buy a synthetic(fake/plastic) feather or grab one from the backyard/trail/forest etc.. cut the tip at a slant then cut in between the vertex.
I don't know if the same can be done with a branch/stem/stick though
@1Emporium1 When dipping the pen, make sure not to submerge the body of the nib into the ink, instead dip only the tip. I hope that's what you were looking for. Thank you for watching!

since your pen has a cartridge doesn't that mean you don't need to buy the ink? Or is it that the cartridge is refillable?
I saw some that only has abody and a nib

How would you clean a dip pen if your using water proof ink?
