@00rLv00 Yes, Rapture3D works in UT2004. To get it working, go to the game's "system" directory, back up DefOpenAL32.dll and replace it with the rapture3d_oal.dll from your Windows system32 or sysWOW64 directory.
Doesn't UT3 already support OpenAL by default anyway? Why not just use CMSS-3D in that case for HRTF? I found CMSS-3D generally sounded better than Rapture3D whenever I used it.
@searanox UT3, in fact, only supports OpenAL for sound rendering.
CMSS-3D is great and I've used it extensively. It does great positional audio for sounds all around the player that are at the same height as the player. However, it provides a very poor representation of sounds coming from above and below, which is probably why there's an option to turn that feature on and off in the drivers. Rapture3D, on the other hand, does a fantastic job of representing sounds from any arbitrary direction.
@tiwer1 What game are you trying to get Rapture3D working in? If it's Unreal Tournament 3, then I think the easiest way to get it working is to modify your the UTEngine.ini file. For details, visit the Games Support page at Blue Ripple Sound's website (I have added a link to the video description).
There is also a second method described on that page, which involves masquerading. To access masquerading settings, open the Rapture3D Speaker Layout application and click the "Rapture3D" tab.
@WildCatZA unreal tournament 3, however i realised what may be the issue, is that i did not actually buy the rapture3d, i got it through the dirt 2 game demo and tried to see if there was a way to fit it into ut3. it drives me nuts that i have all of this electronic equipment in here, and then after all the games i have played, i cannot get beyond 2ch stereo out of ut3, just erks me haha. my setup is a ati radeon hd 4870x2 running pcm 192khz 24 bit into my denon amp
@WildCatZA i would also like to add that i am trying to get at least 5.1 audio from ut3, i have a 7.1 setup and the 7.1 speaker test in rapture3d does work correctly on the tests on all speakers. i ran an openal file from the openal website, and it was a multichannel batch file or something, and it only worked on 2channel, wierd. i did do the engine ini and it did not work, i played with that for a while haha. i think the prob is the rapture 3d i got is stuck to dirt 2. have u gotten 7.1 on ut3
@tiwer1 Yeah, I'm afraid the version of Rapture3D that comes with DiRT 2 will only work with DiRT 2. If you want to use Rapture3D with Unreal Tournament 3 (and other OpenAL games), you'll need to buy it. (I bought the "User" version.)
I haven't tested 7.1 channel sound with Rapture3D because I only have headphones. However, I'm sure that Rapture3D will allow you to get 7.1 channel sound out of Unreal Tournament 3.
@WildCatZA okay i thought that it may have been the case that it was stuck to dirt 2. until more games come out with openal, simply now worth however much it is on the website, like 45 dollars or something i think, or close to. not worth it for one game i guess. hmm. well thank you so much for writing me. maybe in the future i will buy it if more games come out with it haha. only game i have ever had an issue getting at least 5.1 out of, i have never been stuck to 2ch before!! ha.
Yeah, there isn't a big difference. If you own a Creative X-Fi sound card and you use headphones, then you can enable Hardware OpenAL in UT3 and enable CMSS-3D in the Creative drivers and receive a very similar 3D surround sound effect.
I don't understand your second statement, though. The huge majority of gamers who use headphones play with plain stereo in any case. This kind of headphone surround effect is only available if you own an X-Fi or a copy of Rapture3D.
The second statement concerns people who would like to have surround sound on 5.1 usb headsets or generic 5.1 sound systems. In UT3, that works only with hardware openAL.
What about UT2004?

Sounded better with the generic software, get a decent pair of headphones with a good soundstage and you don't need an artificial boost to it.
Shadaez 6 months ago
@Shadaez His HRTF probably isn't that great. It seems to be reducing the treble way too much.

i want that in my asus xonar
but is this compatible with windows 7?
iDarkShoGun 11 months ago
@iDarkShoGun It is indeed compatible with Windows 7.

@WildCatZA Dirt 2 uses this, it is very similar to holophonic sound.

Raoture 3d sounds waay better.

I doubt there is a big difference between hardware openAL (not showed in this video) and rapture3d.
ut3's openAL support is buggy however, so everyone has to play with generic stereo only.

Impressive stuff! Can this be used with any FPS?

It can only be used with games that support OpenAL.
