rap did, not hip hop. Even the early rappers rapped about sex and drugs, but that was because that was the thing to talk/sing/rap about back in the 70's and 80's. If you listen any song that came out back in those two decades, at least 80% of the songs will be about drugs and sex.

Hip hop started out as a new form of music where there DJ's scratchin and Bboys breakdancing, and artists doin graffiti. Rappers were just there to hype of the crowd for the DJ, but no it's the other way around.
