  • So thought would give an update, have just seen the Mariinsky in Covent Garden London and noticed Oksana Skorik dancing as a corphee with some solo roles in Don Q and others. She has also been well mentioned in the British press. Saw her after with her friends and she seemed happy healthy and is obviously an extremely talented dancer doing well. Good Luck to her!

  • seems abusive to me.

  • Why does ballet have to be so serious, super thin, and depressing? Why can't ballerina's enjoy dancing and smile?

  • There is nothing "beautiful and influential" about a life with an eating disorder. These girls are not only dancers, they are human beings.

  • This is only beautiful in the macabre, they look like dancing corpses, skeletons - shambling death. Which is beautiful in a very sad sense.

I couldn't imagine them in anything with joy.

  • Omg..they are so skinny but so amazing

  • I remember I did everything for boobs too. Haha

  • o my goddddd they are soo skinnyyy

  • what is name that girl?

  • does anyone know where i can get this video??

  • Congratulations on all your success Oksana you are beautiful to watch

  • i think ballet instructors have to be insulting in order for u to try harder and harder but then again too much pressure culd hurt but then i also think that isn't ballet kinda about pressure? i could be wrong

  • Ballet Instructors can be brutal and insulting. Most ballet dancers, or any dancer, will never be technically perfect. thus the struggle and frustration for all. Few kids do not get the purpose as they are not mature.

  • why aren't these girls wearing tops?

  • @noshititskrae I think, in the case of really young dancers especially, in exams they want to see exactly how their spine, bones and muscles are developing and if their are any problems, so they want them to be in as little as possible.

  • 0:46 her knees weren't over her toes...horrible plie

  • @VampsAreLovee oh for gods sake that plie was lovely and that girl is now in the best company in the world.

  • @pinkblue114 lovely enough? wow. My mom is a teacher at the Royal Ballet School & if any student wasn't plieing right....I mean c'mon ! common sense here people...knees over toes. & How do you know she even got in the Paris Ballet? Not every student who attends the feeder school isn't always allowed in the company.

  • @VampsAreLovee i apologize i did not mean to cause offence also these videos are not about paris they are about perm, russia. though that particular dancer is now with the kiov ballet company :)

  • @VampsAreLovee anyway the royal ballet school is one of the worst schools to learn ballet I'm sorry! everybody thinks it's so good but its not they teach crap and wreck beautiful bodies ! My friend was the best dancer in my russian school and when she left the RBS she had lost all her beautiful dancing!

  • I am not confident with this. There is so much strain in the upper body and an absence of upper body fluidity. I am reminded of the beauty of Woytek Lowski, the Polish dancer with the most liquid upper body and Larry Rhodes, as well.

  • Has anyone else noticed that her turn-out at 0:45 onward is forced quite a bit? Her feet are incredibly turned out, but her knees are practically facing forward most of the time. I have always been taught that a proper turnout is from the hips so the knees are over the toes...otherwise it's putting quite a bit of strain on the dancer's knees.

  • This movie is very darksider..If you really want to be a ballerina, you are capable of everything for it, specially I prefer hard teachers to push me to the Top instead of soft ones that keeps me in the same level saying "nice words" all the time...without any improvement... The pressure works ..! Sorry! Ah! and those breaths... it looks the movie was done by a child molester...Sorry 2!

  • which pointe shoes are they wearing???

    ...maybe Grishko...???

And the other ballet clothes from the videos..like the black dresses...

    .....also Grishko....???

  • which pointe shoes are they wearing???

    ...maybe Grishko...???

  • is this like a ballet school or something?

  • @babyxkande yes, perm ballet school.

  • Shitt movie :S damn så kjedelig.. pedofilt rett og slett

  • we love your videos! please check out a few of ours if you get a chance. we would be totally honored! you have inspired us in so many ways! :)

  • In how year is this film?

  • This is terrible! It's like there only showing the BAD sides of ballet. Yes, its hard, painfull, takes dedication most people can't hanle, & occupies almost ALL ur time but if a dancer who really loved it didn't wnat to go through it they wouldnt be in ballet. It's amazing too!!! Yuo make firends, are able to get stronger, and get to DANCE to ur hearts content finding that spechial feeling you get.

  • @fujimorimomoyia "A Beautiful Tragedy" is about the jealousy and pressure for beauty and perfection we find in one of the world's most prestigious ballet schools. But perfection comes at a price. From the age of eight until they are grown-ups the girls attending the school get to see their parents only twice a year, and most of them are anorectic from the pressure to satisfy the strict physical demands. For most of the girls who attend the school, ballet represents their only chance for

  • @Hlinhp a prosperous future. Every year 500 girls come to audition. They have beautiful dreams and work tremendously hard to achieve their goal. After nine years of training, 30 students will graduate, but only one or two of them will succeed in becoming a prima ballerina.

    :)

  • well oksana did make it into the mariinsky, that's like a league of its own so how can any of us really say what it does or doesn't take to get there

  • she looks way too skinny

poor girl , she is such a talented dancer but her weight is just too low, even for a ballerina. If you see other famous ballerinas, they are skinny but healthy looking. She just looks ill

  • such great turnout... im sure this has nothing to do with this but you know... great turnout!

  • Hi, someone can to say me where i can to find this film ?

    (in italian,french or english)

    Thanks

  • This is heart-breaking! I would never ever do this to my daughter. These are children that miss their families so much! Children that are not eating properly. It´s almost sick! There´s nothing, absolutely nothing beautiful about it.

  • were can i c the full version ??

  • @pinkblue114 i have been looking for the same thing...i think we need to just buy the dvd

  • @Anochrist great any ideas were ?

  • nop those are not anorexics look 0:14 the anorexic is the star of the film: Orksana. She seems healthier now, she's amazing

  • i feel so bad for all these girls. But thats why Russian ballerinas are SO good. Everything has to be perfect. If it's not-ur done. Its that simple.

I had a Russian figure skating coach just like that. she made me quit after 7 years...:(

But i realized that after all the pain and torture i went through...it really did pay off in the end.

  • is it just me, or do some of these girls look anorexic??

  • @Ilovechocolate1996 No...they look thin. If they were anorexic, their bones would be sticking out and they definitely couldn't do anything physical like this.

  • @sweetminttt People wouldn't believe how much anorexic girl are still capable of doing even though they are physically and mentally emaciated. However, they can only maintain this condition for a few years, because then their bodies will inevitably retaliate against them. You have to remember that they are enormously strong-willed (after all they are constantly depriving themselves of food)

  • @sweetminttt Oh, and you don't have to be bony to be anorexic. The prevalent aspect about anorexia is the psyche; the fear of gaining weight and the distorted self image. Even though the weight loss might occur not until later they can still be considered anorexic.

  • @sweetminttt Wrong. You be be obese and be anorexic. No certain "look" is needed to be anorexic. It's your eating and mental habits that make you an anorectic.

  • does anyone know where to watch it for free or download it?

  • although i know the ballet dancers need to have nice body shapes, i think the girls are too thin... having healthy diets and appearances are important, right?!

  • ballet takes hard work, strength, motivation, passion and your heart, but when you are being pushed so hard that your body physically and mentally is at its limit, its time to stop.

  • @rosemalia- You have your opinion on how strength is or isn't built, and the Russian dance schools have theirs. Between you and them, I wonder who has produced the most ballet stars? Russia is best at ballet for a reason- the way they train their dancers is a large part of it. You can agree with it or not, but if you don't then don't bother watching Russian dancers, period.

  • @xSugarplum maybe they produce most ballet stars...but I wonder how many of them are happy with their childhood and how many carry on with huge traumas?

it's ok to not sacrifice your self-respect, even if you're not going to be a star.

Being happy means so much more...

  • Ballet Concentration Camps

  • 3:29-3:24......what the hell??? they seriously filmed that girl topless?? its one thing to be topless & having your female instructor measuring you, but to allow some camera guy to film you & put you in a documentary. & while youre still underage???

  • cuki

  • I love 1: , that happened to me once, I mean the crying part. The teacher just said, "It was a JOKE, elsie, goodness, just stop crying," and I ran outside....When you're growing up, it's almost harder than when you're a professional dancer...

  • Lots of these people are right--it is so much harder than people think it is and we work EXTREMELY hard to get to the top. If you can't handle that, then don't bother because you have to be able to handle and pressure and pain.

  • The girls go to workouts like they are going to work!! But obviously they want to be the best, and to even gain admission to this school is indeed prestigious, but once they are there, they have to exhibit a consistency and motivation and drive to work hard. I would imagine that maintaining that motivation and drive on a daily basis is extremely fatiguing, mentally and physically. Which is why only a very few will actually get a successful career from ballet.

  • I HATE THE TEACHER! And I hate oksanas mother. Just because she is not became a ballerina, her daughter must suffer! I love ballet but this video is sad! I hope this girls will to be happy.

  • Your little legs *_*

  • that's why Russians' ballet is so great.

    they have TOUGH training..

  • im confused.. they have NO muscle

  • How sad.

  • I wouldn't worry dancers aren't supposed to have big boobs

  • why are they all so skinny? I wouldn't even have the energy to stay on my toes all day if I was that thin!

  • she was great as Florine in DC this weekend, and her Lilac improves with each performance, so happy to see her on stage with the Mariinsky!

  • They are tough in Russia.I would've had a mental break down within three days without my family.

  • Omg look how skinny they are and well i guess now i know why some pretty good ballet dancers are Russian but do they really HAVE to be THAT strict the girls should be enjoying dancing =[

  • 4:34 where are they?

  • @izzfifteen in train

  • in 51, that girl looked TOO SKINNY

  • They need to keep their clothes on! Even if they are all built like 10 year old boys, yall are girls so keep your shirt on!

  • This is Russia where they don't have as many hang-ups about naked bodies as you do in the USA. Also they don't have anywhere near the problem that you do in the USA with obesity.

  • Ok well idgaf. And if you are saying that you have to be fat to have boobs, then you are so wrong. I am 15 and im 94 pounds and im a c cup. Dont be a hater. Why you all up in my koolaid.

  • @GlitzPageantGirl how tall are you?? because if you're at a an average height for 15 then that's about 5'5, which with you being 94 pounds would be REALLY unhealthy.

  • Those girls look so unhealthy at 3:36. Ballet is beautiful but these girls shouldn't be forced to lose weight, especially when there is a slim chance they might be a professional dancer. There has to be some professional dancers out there who weren't forced to lose weight and they use the CORRECT way of being healthy.

  • What does stoice kasalla mean? or whatever she said??

  • That means "stop I said"

  • this makes me SOOO grateful that my mommy doesn't force me to do ANYTHING

  • why did that girl get sent out at 1:50?

  • I think she wasn't doing well in school or something.

  • She probably failed a class.

  • I speak Russian. What the teacher was saying to the girl at 1:50 is "Stay! Like that. Wait, what did I just say!? I said stay! rest. You need to pay attention more." And then she gives her a speech.

  • Because the teachers are evil! And think somehow she messed up!

  • JESUS THOSE POOR KIDS! THEY'RE LIKE RAILS

if i went to that school i would be eaten alive Lol because i'm 16 and i'm nowhere near that good because i started late!

  • How much does she weight at... 5:46

  • 37kg

  • most of this girls become amazing dancers, the preparation and everything is wow, but, you know, there's always the mean teacher, but this one is so bad. It's kind of weird, they choose the girls by their conditions and not because they express and show they can be amazing dancers. Extensions, aren't, for me, the key, to be a good dancer. They are still, beautiful girls, with an amazinf future,

  • I studied under a master teacher from the Perm School and he was not like this at all. He was never mean like some of these teachers. But I guess there's a huge difference between studying under Russians in the US and in Russia

  • to the kid who said it looks dumb, THIS tipe of dance is so hard at that leval, when i am in the dance class i would be in so much pain cause its so hard!!!!

  • I like white pantyhose

  • she's auditioning for the school. at major schools in russia (perm/bolshoi/vaganova), kids are evaluated intensely based on body type. watch any other russian ballet documentary (like ballerina), and you will see that these young girls AND boys are asked to come wearing just panties. they are then stretched by a teacher at the school, so that turnout and flexibility can also be evaluated. at some schools, parents are also looked at so the teachers can see how the child will develop after puberty

  • ballet is not this, ballet is expression, and enjoyment and happiness, i have NEVER cried in ballet, only smiled and laughed.

  • no offense, but if i fight for something, i'm not always laughing and smiling. when i'm fighting to become a dancer, it's not always enjoyable, sometimes it's very uncomfortable, you see. ballet can be joyful, but only if it is done perfectly, and it is a lot of hard work and struggle to get there.

  • Beata te :) il balletto è sudore e fatica, ma tutto questo è fatto con piacere perchè solo così potrai davero ballare :)

  • thats russian ballet teaching for ya....

  • oh my.. the teacher is so vulgar but she's good, she trained out professional and good dancers.

  • this documentary makes ballet look like agony when actually it's not:( dancing is supposed to be fun and enjoyable.

  • don't think of stopping youe daughter's ballet life romadona11. I admit these teacher's are very strict but all teacher's are different!

  • What can I say? It's really just reality. The girl wants to be famous, she has to work for it. Or rather, if her mother wants her to be famous, she will be forced to work hard for it. Either way, one day she may or may not be happy after getting famous. Like MJ she may be extremly unhappy about her childhood when she grows or she may simply think of all the hard work as being worth it. All she can do now is to try to cope...

  • this is discusting :( so sad

  • Looking at these girls, a lot of them have very dark circles under their eyes. Classic sign of fatigue, possibly caused my malnutrition/insufficient intake of food. I would bet my bottom dollar that more than half of these girls suffer from anorexia, not bulimia, because bulimia requires binging on food, and these kids dont get enough food to constitute bingeing. Sad, but perfection comes at a price.

  • @ralucagymnast Yes, I am re-evaluating my own comment, lol! The girls are obviously eating enough to be able to physically train for many hours a day, so their diet is probably high in carbohydrates, which convert to energy, but their diet will be very low in fats, obviously, although the body, even the skinniest body, requires SOME fat in the diet. They probably eat balanced meals, and maybe take vitamin supplements too.

  • I don't know how I feel about this. I think I would turn an eye to the way the teacher teaches if the girls actually seemed like they wanted to be there.

Did they have the passion and then it was sucked out by the school or did they find it wasn't real at all. I'm curious to know...

  • I am not intersted in teaching my daughter ballet any more!

  • oh no ballet is soo fun most teachers are not like this if you want to be careful go see her dance school watch the teachers, both of you will regret not doing ballet

  • disciplina si..ma non VIOLENZA!!!!!

non approvo un metodo così assolutamente

    controproducente

non approvo i metodi di questi pseudo insegnanti!!!!!!essere stati brave ballerine non significa sapere insegnare..

    VERGOGNATEVI!!!!!

  • aww that little girl tries so hard to get a figure and to have "boobs" like other girls.she doesnt want to be skiny and unhealthy.

  • This is not what ballet is meant to be. Ballet stands for hard work, endurance, strength, flexibility, and most of all beauty. There is nothing beautiful about this. This is just plain ugly. You dont create strength by tearing someone down. And you dont need to weed out the weak ones. Ballet is challenging enough on its own. The dance will weed them out itself. Besides, ballet should be enjoyed by all, no matter their strengths. Shame on their parents and their teacher!

  • @rosemalia This is what the ballet world has come to. Not just there but everywhere, even here...

  • @rosemalia Spoken like an American who understands nothing of Russian training.

Look, Russia isn't commenting on your recreational dolly dinkle schools. Why don't you pipe down and let Russia continue to produce the world's most beautiful and influential dancers in the world as they always have?

  • @rosemalia That's the whole point

  • @rosemalia spoken like a person who clearly doesn't have any clue what ballet is like outside the world of pink tutu's and happy faces on stage.

Russia creates the most wonderful dancers and how they do it is their own business.

  • @rosemalia you don't get good at ballet by someone telling you your good. People are lazy too so its good to have a teacher that tough. Frankly that teacher is probably one of the best in the business and I'm sure her students loved her teaching

  • Yes, absolutely true. And also, all that work burns all the fat you have, anyways.

  • Does anyone know if I can watch this online somewhere?

  • gosh... i Am a dancer with a school that produces pro dancers, and no one is allowed to be that thin at our school! gosh that is unhealthy!

  • their legs look like they will go on forever!!!!

  • This is sick. This ISN'T ballet. This is lifeless and appaling and inhuman. This ISN'T ballet.

  • I know you have to be skinny and have a certain body figure to dance ballet professionally, but I think that these young girls are way too thin...

  • Ballet is not easy... It is hard it will crush the weak in the end. This is way ballet is and if your not the body type, or your not smart enough, or if your body won't take the demands you won't make it. That's what they're taught there. In fact Russian teechers ( I've had a few) are hard, they call you names and tell you your not good enough. Again it's to crush the weak.

  • This is NOT the way ballet should be. Ballet is queered-out and posits little girls as coathangers, not humans. Weak???? This kind of training and presentation sucks the JOY out of dance. Its soulless..and for what? Whoever let ballet become like this should be shot. Gymastics and figure skating too. My daughter is only allowed to dance African or Brazilian - where spirit trumps form. Those poor Russian girls. Bad moms!

  • @enoebel I dont think you really understand top level ballet very well; these girls are simply adhering to an internationally recognised aesthetic standard; how many top ballerinas are "fat"? And by "fat" I mean a normal build compared to these girls; a normal build would look fat next to these girls. Ballerinas are expected to look almost weightless, with their leaps and jumps looking effortless.

  • thank you theballetbunhead you are get it. i mean it seems like all i read of the comments on here are of how this is bad. its not bad. its real.

  • how much ballerina must weigh

  • the girls bodies don't look healthy and they seem unhappy

  • The dancers are like skeletons :S

  • this was similar to the training i had in california, it can either make you or break you, either way you feel empty inside.

  • i dance in california too where did you train?

  • povere!!!

  • i was watchin at how the girls were all sad and my ballett teacher says if you dance ballet inn her classs you dont need to be sad you sould be happy i mean i always go to ballett and my ballet teacher is nice considerate and caring those ballett teachers are like bitches to put it mildly. so if you dance ballet and you are sad when you are done you must have a mean teacher bc i have a noce as pie teacher and if i had a bad day she can always make happy

  • Beauty comes from pain. The only way in which one can burn away the impurities in metal is to expose it to extreme heat. the refining process is arduous and painful, but how else can one sift out imperfection if not through the enduring of trial. To withstand the training builds character and cultures perfection.

  • @twilightlova4eva212 You really do need to understand the difference in the level that these girls are at, and are aiming for, and the level that you are at; please dont take that comment as offensive, I didnt mean it that way.

  • @ralucagymnast Well i have been taking ballet since i was three and i dance point at a performing arts school ........ that coment you made was stupid and un thought so think about it beauty is painful but that is life threatining

  • her legs are so thin o_O

  • my god that female instructor is such an asshole! if that girl was my daughter, i would not enroll her in such a school where they literally are allowed to torture you psychologically /physically to perfection (death). I don't give a damn how good that ballet school is, i would stick a pointe shoe up that old woman's ass for being so bitchy!!

  • Superlative ability requires sacrifice, it is a concept which poor minds cannot encompass. it is for that reason only the clever excel.

  • wow, you must not know what it's like to be a human being. just goes to prove you will never see this kind of degradation in western ballet schools.

and if you think your dignity ain't worth a shit, go sell your soul to the devil now.

  • Is this your attempt at showing superiour humanity? You are not so different from the instructor, only in as much as her aims are to ultimately better her students while yours are merely to belittle others.

  • @trickmastermonkey"just goes to prove you will never see this kind of degradation in western ballet schools"

This is probably why the best dancers chiefly come from what was the former Soviet Union.. You have just been hoist by your own petard, with your statement.

  • @trickmastermonkey I will repeat what I told somebody else. These girls are the best of the best, the creme de la creme, they arent doing this for a hobby; this for maybe a very lucky few of these girls, is going to be a professional career. Hence the harshness and intensity of training. This isnt recreational; this is about achievement; to be the very best in the world, possibly.

  • Camiwhatever is right. But sadly having a bust is looked down apon in the ballet world which is annoying for me because I am 13 and far from flat chested. Anyways, thank's for the clip I really want to see the movie

  • Well, being like a D cup or larger may be frowned upon in the ballet world, but you don't necessarily need to be flat chested to be a ballerina. It might have been that way in the past, but nowadays there are dancers with larger busts. It also kind of depends upon where in the world you are. I've noticed that the majority of Russian ballerinas concentrate on being flexible and thin (which may include flat chested), whereas American ballerinas work more towards being strong and muscular.

  • does she die at the end or something?

  • I was wondering, if you dance like 10 hours a week, what would be the amount of calories you would eat to get her body shape/thin-ness?

  • no.

  • Metabolism slows down with extreme caloric restriction, and so you'd want to start out with a natural form that is somewhat thinner if the ballet school is heavily focused on thinness. (Some moreso than others of course)...but what a nightmare it would be to have to develop muscultare/ strength - while being completely nutrient/ caloric starved.

  • @Princessportent Which proves my point; if these girls were anorexic, as some people have suggested, there is no way they would be able to train many many hours per day without collapsing! Their diets are obviously structured to contain many carbohydrates(pasta, rice, pulses potatoes stuff like that) but low in fats. Also high in calcium and protein(chicken and fish). Of course they have muscles; how on earth could they hold their leg up in a scale without hands without muscular strength?

  • Comment removed

  • them teachers r being bitches

  • I cried when I saw this film. seriously.

the redhead - "if you want to have boobs you have to eat, so I eat bisquits?" okey.... the teacher are too strict.

  • I get pissed when an instructor doesn't dance with the class.

  • For real? You must have young teachers.

  • Until last year I had an instructor who was 80 and danced with us. It just annoys me when an instructor sits down and barks at us. If they stand up, then fine.

  • if my teacher talked to me like the way she did on there, i would go pissing nuts! harsh bitch.

  • @xxxSaraxhxxx This is not for leisure/recreational/hobby. These schools are about achievement; to produce top level dancers on the world stage. These girls have already probably spent more than half their lives striving for the opportunity to attend this school; this isnt playing. If a few a very lucky, they will make a career from it. Its just rather sad to think of all the girls who DONT make it. What happens to them?:(

  • @ralucagymnast i know :/ i used to do it.. stopped cos of the pressure.

  • @xxxSaraxhxxx anyone who makes it into the school is dedicated enough that they would not wish to throw away their chance of a career in ballet because of the harsh environment. Russian teachers are known for their strictness, and it apparently isn't such a horrible method because dancers from other countries compete for admittance to the school (including RAB students). it is generally considered to be the best academy in the world - because hard work and commitment get results.

  • I believe this is from "The Children of Theater Street."

  • This is a new documentary.

  • This is from "A beautiful tragedy"

  • love

  • well this is the hard east block ...

  • I love it!

  • Is this an actuall movie

  • really??? what's the name of the movie and how can I get it, I'd like to si it!

  • no, actually she doesn't need diet herself, becuase she has already been through that when she was dancing, but now she doesn't need it anymore! i'm always told by my tacher: you have to do all that, not me, i've done my part!!

  • talk about hissing

  • Wow... The instructor is harsh...

  • they are very good.

    they seem bored .

  • there is no life in their eyes...
