  • The Cutlass Mod is the same as the Analogman Silver Mod right?

  • God this cat likes Aerosmith doesn't he?

  • The Super Overdrive is great as it is. No need for a mod.

  • sounds like Jack Black

  • why have a mod of the sd-1. Just buy a fuzz, like a big muff.

  • The factory overdrive's tone was more consistent. You could easily push the envelope by adding another pedal. Maybe the Boss graphic equalizer, or my favorite, the Hyper Fuzz.

  • the modded one sounded like a bd2

  • never trust a man with snakeskin shoes.

  • It looks like his name is German dude

  • just sounds almost like a volume boost to me

  • the modded one sounds like crap

  • You rock. You use Orange. I respect you.

  • they should take out boss and super

  • NIIICE SHOEEES!!

  • The mod only sounded like the output was hotter than the original. I mod these pedals and mine have a distinct tone over the stock. This mod seems very generic.

  • Sounded like the pillows.

:P if you don't know... i like to call them the Japanese Beatles.

  • fuck!! this guy sounds just like jack black when he talks

  • @PippoBlues93 you're a little late to the party on that observation, dude.

  • Rag doll, fucking great song

  • where do you get your pedals modded?? i have a ts9 i might like to mod but wouldnt know where to start...????

  • @DannyOFtod I mod TS-9's if you are interested.

  • The original sounds cleaner, the mod has some terrible sharp peaks. (might sound better live, but crappy on this video). {;o)

  • super overdrive sucks ass, md-2 is the best on a marshall, but it still is on any other amp

  • @lunardude52 there's a difference between what each pedal is designed to do. sd1 is not supposed to be an earthshaking distortion like the md 2.

  • @lunardude52 he's reviewing overdrives, not distortions, moron.

  • The stock one is way better

  • Is That Jack Black, OR is it a dude whith jack's voice? xD

  • Could be the audio recording of this video, but the modded one sounds bad, as in sucks. I think Keeley 5 star mod for the SD-1 is by far the best. Keeley does not the basic tone of the SD-1, just enhances it.

  • i think GMD has the best job in the world

  • Original FTW!

  • Stock - smoother, overdrive and bass sags a little, but for a $50 pedal, it sounds great!

Cutlass Mod - louder, slightly brighter, crisper

  • Mod one sucks.

  • Seems like the mod has more "presence".

  • sounds louder the one with the machine head.. and when you boost up the original one.. it's kinda sound unstable.. I mean the freq.. but, the one with the machine head seems kinda smooth and controlled.. :)

but, I prefer the original one.. coz, I have one.. and I really love the original sound of it..

and by the way, is that a taiwan pedal or a japan made?

  • The modded one sounds like it's about to die. The original sounds much better! More fuller, smoother and laid back.

  • i actually like the original the modded one doesn't sound like an OD to me has a high end that speaks more distortion then warm tube overdrive

  • I like the mod a bit better, because the original has that typical od thing of the clean signal bleeding in (to my ears). In dirt pedals, I don't like that kind of transparency. The mod also is a bit tighter and juicier, even though sd-1s are already pretty tight and juicy. I might do the cutlass mod or go with Majik Box's '87 mod. Still, I think the original SD-1 is badass, and certainly the only od pedal I have a soft spot for.

  • I think the origional is better. They have the mix of origional sounds and overdrive just right.

The mod is almost trying to be too heavy.

  • keeleys 5 star mod is kickass on this one

  • hey jack we have got the best pedals for sure ! but your next cheque is for a pair of chooses.

  • The original one has more control.

  • the original had a more controlled sound compared to the mod....

    ...i prefer the original actually.

  • @Darndez2 yeah but the mod sound with more body...kinda...i dont know about dynamics...you actually would have to play it.

  • @thehornypuppy hmm...idk mate, i feel overdrive should be more subtle, if not then might as well get distortion. haha anyhow, tone is really a matter of personal taste :) if you like the mod, then so be it!!!

  • I don't like the Mod one, it doesn't give you room for picking dynamics.

  • agree

  • @caspoveda how the fuck can you tell that from this video????

    youtube sound quality is rubish

  • Ha! Nice boots...Jack

  • are you jack black? woh :-)

  • are you jack black? you sound just like him

  • To be honest they both sound like crap

  • I think the original is more smoothed out the cutlass mod made the pedal a little more fizzier and more gainer I think (more alive)

  • It's ALIVE! The Cutlass Mod V1 was a bit rowdier like that - V2 is a bit smoother, but still doesn't sound like someone tossed a pillow over the speaker, like a stock SD-1.

  • Tube screamer or boss super overdrive?

  • Get a digitech bad monkey. Its basically both but has low and high EQ controls. No more lack of bass. And its $60. Total no brainer man.

  • Jack Black?

  • sounds like him lol..

  • can anyone tell me if this is a good pedal for kiss songs??????

  • If your going to use the the Boss Super Overdrive SD-1 pedal for Kiss songs (especially the early ones) I would use the one modded by Machineheads. It's got a rounder, fuller tone and sounds more like a tube amp pushed into overdrive then the out of the box Boss pedal which ended up sounding more transistory. Remember Paul & Ace used Marshall amps that were well driven. Ace used Super distortion pickups to overdrive the front end of his amps along with the famous Marshall crunch from the amp.

  • Very aptly put, and one of the applications for the Cutlass Mod - an OD can double as both a clipper and a pusher. These days, folks tend to polarize them as one or the other. You hit the nail on the head.

  • can it do the jimmy page sound?

  • what's the song in the end?

  • sounds like the modded one is making the tubes buzz

  • those arent tubes, thats just the cameras mike clipping

  • i think the modded one has more lively sound

but i like original better somehow.. lol

  • yea i tihnk so too like i can tell the modded has more accurate and true sound

buuut i do like the origional better i tihnk it sounded more tube to me but idk if tahts not i idk what it is i did like it more though

  • nice snake skin boots lol

  • can this pedal do punk?

  • this pedal is basicly in my opinion is universal to any genre not so much metal but u can get some punky sounds out of it

  • Yeah it work for Metal cause you canjust use this pedal as a booster on a high channel.

  • Can you do that same thing with a distortion pedal rather than the amp distortion? I use a Boss MT-2 with a solid state 20 Watt amp.

  • I don't think you can boost your overdrive with a distortion pedal becuase a distortion pedal already gives you a good chunk of distortion, but the super overdrive is a mainly a overdrive pedal used to give your more over drive on a clean or low distortion channel, but you can use it on a high gain channel as as booster. Hope this answers you question!

  • you, the guitar player, does punk....not some crappy guitar pedal.

  • If compared to the standard Allums SD-1, the CUTLASS will have more bottom end, but the Allums should have more compression. The EQ on the two should be different, but hard to quantify. If compared to the Allums SD-808, the CUTLASS will sound much more modern, since Monte's going for the classic 808 vibe. The Allums SD-1 GT mod should be compared to the Fulldrive, since it's an attempt to clone it.

  • How would you compare the Machine Head mod to the Monte Allums one?

  • For many gigging guitarists, that volume boost is a necessity. This mod was thoroughly R&D'ed with that in mind, and what players requested from us. It isn't just louder, either - when you reduce compression, you also increase the low end. Just some food for thought.

  • it just sounds louder. the stock model actually sounds smoother for leads.

  • I think the moded one just sounds louder not necessarily better

  • awesome, dig it

  • with a vox ad15vt could i get close to this sound?

  • Jack Black ? Your sound is very close

  • yah no kiddin.

  • I mean this with total respct. When this guy talks he sounds just like ....JACK BLACK. Tastful tones on the rig for sure, good clasic rock tone.
