I actually saw the winter brothers perform in Chicago in the 70's and it was a great show.......I think,(the 70's were kinda of a blur for a lot of us). I love and play this song but I gotta agree with the comments about the style these guys were stuck in. ughhhh
this is terrible - I heard the song on the radio and then watched this ... Edgar Winter is a weirdo ... Susan Somer's wig looking freak ! Not that I care or am judging but REALLY???? Bless his heart.
Not a particularly good version of this song, true. But if you weren't judging, you wouldn't be calling him a weirdo or a freak. He and his brother are very strange looking, but they both are brimming over with talent. Two of rock's most talented musicians, period.
I always thought it was Rick who actually played the cool intro to this song. Wouldn't surprise me if Ronnie Montrose actually didn't play a note on They Only Come Out at Night even though his picture is on the inside cover.
There's another 'tube video posted where Edgar Winter and company are playing this; Dan Hartman is playing a doubleneck guitar (6-string and bass) and he was playing the intro, while Rick Derringer played the flourishes and the solo.

Dan Hartman wrote and sang this song as part of the Edgar Winter Group. That's why the vocals seem so different.

Montrose played this tune on that LP, Derringer produced it and played some other tunes.
Montrose is credited for a lot on that LP.

Shit, didn't anyone escape the 80's trappings? I bet they laugh when they look at this. If they don't, they should..
