@lmollot addicts arise because there is no help out there for drug users. there are no social constructions that allow people to understand healthy drug use, they just get criminalized in which they go to jail, where drugs are more accessible, then get released from jail and cannot get a job. Many of you seem to feel the Drug War is about to reach some climax. In reality, it has yet to reach it's own new millenium. Now an entire generation of young Americans have known nothing but the drug war. For those under the age of eighteen, the likelyhood of a marijuana arrest at some time in their future is 1 in 3. @lmollot Former food fields being transformed into drug fields is not a result of the drug itself, it's a chilling effect of prohibition. If farmers are faced with a choice to grow corn that will net them so much an acre, or poppies that will profit them 10 times as much.....it's a no brainer decision. Allowing drug users to produce their own product on private property would almost entirely eliminate the problem. Also, not all drugs are harmful to the body or mind regarding average normal use.

The toxicity of cocaine compared to MDMA is completely different. Just as much as marijuana compared to alcohol. Some substances are highly addictive (Heroin for example) while others are not addictive at all either physically or mentally (such as Iboga or DMT).

I personally know drug users (Meth and Heroin) who want to quit. If you don't have money, which most addicts don't, you have to get on a waiting list to get in a substandard "treatment program". If some of the money spent on Jail and Prison construction were used for treatment centers a surprising amount of people would try to "kick" their habits. No beds in treatment centers, but there's ALWAYS room in prison...

How different is it though? Nicotine addiction kills thousands more people than heroin addiction, it just happens to be legal. In fact, a lot of people say that nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Keeping heroin illegal just means that the Taliban have a market for their opium and that the price of drugs is driven up, forcing addicts to steal or get others hooked on heroin so that they can become drug dealers themselves.

Or if you get picked for jury duty, and most likely your case will be drug related, you can "vote your conscience" whether or not the judge informs you of your right to do so. Look up "Fully informed juries" or FIJA. You CAN simply vote not to convict.

Great video. I have seen first hand how the drug war destroys families. Prisons are businesses, sucking more money out of the government for every prisoner they take in. And the government will suck that money out of us one way or another -- hard-earned money that is forcibly taken from us to support people who are being forcibly prevented from earning money themselves. When their families end up on welfare, we pay for that too.
legalizing drugs is the best move at this time. The Netherlands decriminalized drugs in 1976 and they have lower rates of drug addiction, homicide, and drug related deaths ; plus the money that would be made off of drugs would help boost the economy dramatically.Furthermore drug dealers, drug cartels, rouge army's, and country's whose economic basis depend on drugs would no longer have the funding to continue operating. The drug war is something that cannot be won. legalize drugs!!

For countries that have soldiers fighting in Afghanistan this war these two wars overlap. At the moment about 1/3 of Afghanistans GDP comes from illegal drug trade. If America and its allies pull out of that country it will be a 100% narco state. The Taliban and Al Queda are simply international drug smuggling gangsters and domestic politics in the US which often has a large influence internationally helps to keep them powerful.

@lmollot addicts arise because there is no help out there for drug users. there are no social constructions that allow people to understand healthy drug use, they just get criminalized in which they go to jail, where drugs are more accessible, then get released from jail and cannot get a job. Then the cycle starts all over again. Yes drug addiction can lead to violence but we have to look at WHY and WHY these people have limited opportunities.

It will destroy your dopamine receptors if used excessively making everything boring and it can damage other areas of your brain as well. Used responsibly all it does is increase dopamine output for a little while.

@lmollot Former food fields being transformed into drug fields is not a result of the drug itself, it's a chilling effect of prohibition. If farmers are faced with a choice to grow corn that will net them so much an acre, or poppies that will profit them 10 times as much.....it's a no brainer decision. Allowing drug users to produce their own product on private property would almost entirely eliminate the problem. Also, not all drugs are harmful to the body or mind regarding average normal use.

@lmollot Lumping every substance that has desirable effects on perception/pleasure centers under one umbrella as just (drugs) is dangerous. The toxicity of cocaine compared to MDMA is completely different. Just as much as marijuana compared to alcohol. Some substances are highly addictive (Heroin for example) while others are not addictive at all either physically or mentally (such as Iboga or DMT).

It's pretty simple...I was agreeing with you that love is a drug, and going further to say that ALL human states of mind (love, hate, happy, sad, angry, depressed, anxious, etc) are drugs, because each of them is based on the neurotransmitters in our brains. So yes, love is a drug, in fact all of human experience is one substance or another, as they bind to our neurons and influence how we feel, think, and behave.

Love, too, is a drug, albeit not such a bad one. In fact, all states of mind are drugs, as each one simply boils down to neurotransmitters and hormones; tryptamines, phenethylamines, endorphins, adrenaline...all these exist naturally in the human brain AS WELL as in the world of drugs, with the exception of replacing the word endorphin with opiate.

Weed kills brain cells, that is a scientific fact. And that's the reason why it is forbidden. To protect us.
Without the DEA our country would be chaos and disorder. Alcohol is not forbidden, because getting addicted to it is rather difficult. On the other hand. I personally know drug users (Meth and Heroin) who want to quit. If you don't have money, which most addicts don't, you have to get on a waiting list to get in a substandard "treatment program". If some of the money spent on Jail and Prison construction were used for treatment centers a surprising amount of people would try to "kick" their habits. No beds in treatment centers, but there's ALWAYS room in prison...

I don't know it is almost impossible to enforce laws against objects and activities. Keeping heroin illegal funds the Taliban/Al Qaeda opiate black market.
We should decriminalize all drugs instead of judging or being hateful to addicts, herion addicts shouldn't be punished more with prison, they are already being punished by their addiction. We need more treatment for them, to set up more programs in churches, and have more VOLUNTARY not court ordered rehab programs.

I think the only charge given out should be 'intent to distribute'.
...but I still think anything but weed is dangerous, and because of addictive properties, should be illegal.
Realize that nicotine is a different kind of addiction than crack or heroin.

How different is it though? Nicotine addiction kills thousands more people than heroin addiction, it just happens to be legal. In fact, a lot of people say that nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Keeping heroin illegal just means that the Taliban have a market for their opium and that the price of drugs is driven up, forcing addicts to steal or get others hooked on heroin so that they can become drug dealers themselves.

We can vote for/help elect people who are committed to ending the Drug War. Of course, some say one thing and do another (Obama) — but some are for real (Ron Paul).
Or if you get picked for jury duty, and most likely your case will be drug related, you can "vote your conscience" whether or not the judge informs you of your right to do so. Look up "Fully informed juries" or FIJA. You CAN simply vote not to convict.
If they can't convict them, after a while they won't bother arresting them.

The best way to let a drug user go in a trial is to interpret his use as being protected by the constitution. I just stay he has a right to happiness and if that happiness involves doing a drug then so be it!

Great video. I have seen first hand how the drug war destroys families. Prisons are businesses, sucking more money out of the government for every prisoner they take in. And the government will suck that money out of us one way or another -- hard-earned money that is forcibly taken from us to support people who are being forcibly prevented from earning money themselves. The Netherlands decriminalized drugs in 1976 and they have lower rates of drug addiction, homicide, and drug related deaths ; plus the money that would be made off of drugs would help boost the economy dramatically.Furthermore drug dealers, drug cartels, rouge army's, and country's whose economic basis depend on drugs would no longer have the funding to continue operating.
