Hi Wendy, I have some small solid brass electric guitar parts I would like to give a matte finish to and age them to a dark brownish bronze color. I've tried everything from hard boiled egg yolks (for the sulfur reaction) to buying Liver of Sulfur and it just turns the pieces a orangish yellow color. I've kept them outside for a month in the elements with no results either. What can I do to make them look old like brownish bronze? THANK YOU
Thank you all for the great feedback. @JaxAdele - yes, this is normal for matte pieces to lose their finish. It typically only occurs with rings that are constantly being banged through normal wear and that contact acts like a buff. You can easily restore a basic matte finish at home with a ScotchBrite green pad. Be sure it doesn't have cleaning solution on it, then brush the surface of the ring in the original direction of the matte finish. Its not permanent, but it will restore the matte look
Hey...I'm hoping you could help me. I have a matte gold ring and I just polished it. It's no longer matte....what should I do? Should this have happened?
Nice work space.

Wendy, I've also tried heating the pieces up over a stove and placing them in the oven for awhile with little results.

Good video quality and well thought out but with no close up shots it's hard to see what was accomplished and what the finish looks like.
