vikings were not organized warriors. they were for the most part poor farmers who were called up to fight for their village or clan or whatever. there weaponry and armor depended on their socio economic status and therefore most of them went into battle in padded cloth not chain mail. most could not afford the extravagant weapons showcased on deadliest warrior
damnit deadliest warrior is a bunch of bullshit gladiators shouldn't have been put on gladiators wern't warriors they werre criminals who got caught and were thrown in the arena, how about apache vs centurian, and the spartan vs ninja was wrong too ninjas steal armour and weapons from dead samurai and deadliest warrior only tests the weapons and not the skills, ninja would have kicked ass even if spotten, the most realistic and true outcome was samurai vs viking. and for the count shuriken wasnt

@andrewsandjonsey on the viking vs samurai no not really the most realistic or true outcome either, and you are over simplifying the gladiators and in a straight out fight yeah I agree the with the outcome with the ninja and spartan. The whole show itself is not accurate at all for history or tactics fighting MA of any of the warrior cultures they have used.

The vikings did do a lot of settling due to over-population of Scandinavia and the their continental home regions, but that fact doesn't disprove in any way just how vicious they were as warriors. While some vikings did settle Ireland and other places, they also spent generations looting the coast and taking slaves before they decided to make it a permanent home.
No, that's incredibly inaccurate. The vikings were so feared for their brutal marauding that the pope at the time actually instituted a prayer to be said during church services to be "delivered from the wrath of the Northmen". The Holy Roman Empire had traded with the entire known world and never found the need to pray for deliverance from anyone, so it's obvious the kind of impression viking exploits made on their neighbors.
Not knocking your vid man, it a good thought, but the Viking culture recently have been proven to be just traders, and fought when they needed too. That's why in parts of Britain and Ireland there are plenty of instances of them settling, and the horned helmets is a myth too.
I watched the Taliban Vs The I.R.A and laughed my head off. What a crazy situation !! I'm picturing a load of Irish Republicans running around Helmand province, or Afghan/Pakistani guys running around the Irish border. Silly show if you ask me. Surely in a day and age of satalite television you could watch a documentary by real historians if you don't want to read a book about it... But if you're into this type of thing. They aren't real historians by the way.
Every single battle in the show seemed to be completely based on false stereotypes, rather than how the different warriors were in reality.
Also, @ FrankWest125 below: hazza3 did mention that he has been doing further research, while the only arguments against him so far has been using nothing but the show itself as a standpoint. If you want to prove him wrong, get some reliable proof yourself. TV shows made entierly for entertainment are NOT "reliable proof".
Your opinon on the Ninja is right but I think with this being a tv show, people expect to see the ninjas with their typical film outfit to make it abit more fun to watch mabye?
The only one I really disagree with was the second one. I don't care about a "typical" viking, because Viking is just a vague term for any Scandinavian raider. The difference between common raiders and the Huscarles or the Varangian Guard is so great, it's pointless to even consider them the same warriors. It would be like comparing the Japanese peasant conscripts to the Samurai. One warrior's name indicates his station, and the other's doesn't. It's largely semantics.
Although to be fair, "samurai" is not exactly a specific title, either. First of all it depends on era, and second, you could easily be samurai and yet not bushi. Many samurai, and this became increasingly true after the Sengoku jidai, were clerks and administrators, with little time or inclination to pursue martial arts. If we are talking early samurai then yes, they were a warrior class, but "samurai" grew to be a more complex term.
I'd just add that pop-culture focuses more on the warrior-Samurai than the poetry-writing, political nobles, whereas most pop-culture Vikings are just common pirates.
Well name off where you got your facts or how, otherwise yea, it is worthless. Would you listen to someone who says facts are facts just cause he says so?
In that case vikings are also known to have 4 foot long slongs, and used em to wack their enemys upside the head when they have hard ons, and that would render them useless.
i dont know man, all i know is that .. scottbaioisdead from another ninja video is the gayest and the ugliest nerd i have ever seen.XD. and even if he did wiggle ninja shit infront of me, i'd drop on the ground and laugh my fking head offf.. wahahahahahah! keeps insisting like a little girl... what a dork. if he was a ninja (which he's not), he'd be the gayest ninja of them all.
you got it all right however the gladiator used tower shields that covered their whole body i couldnt disagree more with the out come of episode one. but you got this show in a summary good.
someone needs to get a life and it's you pal. You apparently don't care about my opinion but here you are commenting and arguing with random people. Pathetic.
No offense or anything, and I know you've probably moved on from this. But for future referrence, he's right. You should really back up you're arguments with facts, otherwise it's like trying to beat down someone who has a gun with your fists, kind of pointless right? Like I said before, no offense. But facts are the most important part of an argument, otherwise someone who knows even very little on the subject can render it invalid.
today was the end of the show as it seems. please go to spike and make an account if you have not done so and support the show. expres your ideas too. we all love the controversies even though we may disagree and be upset at the end as a result of a simulation. further more, it teaches us a thing or two of history and also gives us a lot of imagination. im sure the guys would greatly appreciate your support. we have made this show so now lets save it from ever being long gone.
Vikings very commonly used longbows alot of them did actually. Vikings took sword and shield, spear, axe, a dagger called a seax saxe, and bows. Viking elites or berserkers were called Huscarls and they were extremely experienced so they fought alot and the chieftan or Jarl didnt use bodyguards during a battle so they could be even with their men.
I would like for them to include Cushite warriors on the show. These are guys where were paid by the Egyptians to help them out in wars and to work as guards and they were on good terms with and hired by the Persians to help them in their battles. So they had a reputation for being powerful. They also fought the Romans out of their territory, so that does account for something.
would all ninjas be faster than all spartans? the spartans have some armor on, that is true, but is that statement constant when comparing all of them? and you want to talk about fighting technique? do your research on Greek pankration. both the technique that was used for the sport and the battlefield where it was modified for weapon usage and life or death situations. it's every bit a martial art like ninjitsu. we need to stick with reality, not movie and anime crap.
Greek fighting style wasn't even as advanced back in 500 B.C. And as with the samurai, Spartan in armor could hardly resort to pankration as their shield is strapped in two places. But if yu were simply talking fighting styles, then yeah, a spar like i suggested in the next vid would make it more realistic.
"we need to stick with reality, not movie and anime crap."
Everyone must bring this up, shouldn't they? ninjutsu is, if you study it, a complicated style not shown in most movies.
aight bud... u seem to type fairly well for being ''drunk''. also dont say ur drunk as an excuse... ur a fuckin fag go drink one beer by urself and go masterbate to ur gay bondage porn u fuckin pussyboy.
i think the show is a great show i watch it every week. anyone who has to argue against this video and the show. FUCK YOU. best show ever. and good video.
I don't think that the way that it utilized to determine the winner is at all accurate.
It seems that they just use the Odds of each of the weapons and then add up the numbers and the highest number wins.--for instance Gladiators. I know that they were very good fighters and fought to live. If a Gladiator was alive that means he's probably an awesome killer. The Indian lacks the resources to win, regardless of the effect of his weapon during the test on the jelly or pig meat.
Damn I thought you were just a stupid nerd talking shit about the show. You actually did it justice and disburst most of the bullshit coming out of a lot of people on the net.
i agree with medievalfan24. also, the maori "expert" on the show was not a maori expert. the maori weapons expert is a stuntman for lord of the rings.
Actually, Ninja's weren't peasants..they were actually samurai...I know..hard to beleive ..but the whole peasant thing is something you see in the movies..ALSO...ninjas wore armor. Al a ninja was...is a Samurai who did espionage and guerrilla warfare...that's it....
They were just...samurai ..that specialized in espionage, disguise and guerrilla warfare... the whole hiding and assassination part was PROBABLY a myth..what i DO know is that the shuriken and those..little.. things they throw on the floor are not made for killing. A lot of their techniques are just to escape. Basically..they ambush.
No.. they were samurai..instead of being a moron, read a book. The WHOLE concept of the "black suit" ninja came about based on the Kabuki stage hands who wore all black and then from THERE came the whole stereotypical ninja who wore no armor. The Actual ninja wore armour and the did had disguises as well but for the most part, they spied They weren't peasants since the upper class would NEVER hire someone who is not properly trained. watch?v=MMM3hVp-1Ag. Look it up..stop using wiki.
If they weren't samurai, then they wouldn't be wearing the same armor. The Shoguns would never hire a "peasant". I know what I am talking about because I did my own research and asked people who know about this stuff more than me. OH! if you want someone who knows what he's taking about I suggest you watch "scottbaioisdead"... he's the type of guy that even the Japanese agree on.
The show is great but I agree that it needs help. The thing that got me scared me about the show was in the samurai epsiode one of the of the samurai's was a named a "Samurai Descedent" But, I checked out a page about him saying he is a actor. But, their is no way we can see if this show is scripted.
in real life ninjas are great warriors, I've been studying ninjutsu bujinkan and yagyu shinkage-ryu style kenjutsu. they would be able to use muto dori techniques to disarm there weapons, they "did" wear armor, they used mines, grenades, and many many different weapons that had poison on them, one cut and you would be screwed. the samurai beleived that shinobi used spirits to posess people and make them crazy, but this was just the techinis kickin in from poison.
There is a slight problem that the show's pretty weapon-focused, and a lot of different warriors end up having similar weaponry. I think there's still enough variance among them all for a couple of seasons of this show, though! If they move to a more tactics-focused show, this could last really long.
Not to mention you can always have a winners/losers bracket, or re-interpret the show for new kinds of fights (300 Spartans vs an M1 Abrams, the army of Nobunaga vs the army of Alexander the Great).
grest review! thumbs up! i don't know why people get so passionet!! the ninja is steriotypicaly thought of as a guy who has super powers. about weapons, they have to go through the inventory. About vikings, take this from a descendant from a viking who raped a russian (i thik thats how i have viking blood) we are ruthless!!!!!
FOR THE RECORD: The role of the Samurai changed several times throughout Japan's history. There was a time, early on, when they were primarily on horseback. At that time they were usually expert archers and, i believe, their sword was called the Tachi. The Tachi was typically longer and more curved than the Katana...being on horseback, you'd need a longer sword. They also didn't carry Wakizashi at this time. As Japan changed, new Samurai roles were created to fit the period. Makes sense.
I'm canadian too, but I know when to use "you're" and "your". My suggestion would be to check the dictionary before trying to pass Samuri as Canadian spelling.... but good job on "atrocious"!
Deadliest warrior show is aweful! so much of it is wrong! like the knight episode for instance. They took something that spanded over 500 years, over all of Europe, with alot of different culture, and they just mashed that all in together for one guy? COME ON! Knights did not have honor. To other knights yes, but they raped, pillaged, burned, and murdered innocent people. That is why the code of chivalry was inteved by the pope in the first place to combat the violence against the people.
Also during the Crusades, one of the main killers of men, BEFORE they fought was dehydration and heat stroke. CAUSE they not only had plate armor on, but also chain mail, and padding under the chainmail to protect them even further. SO to say that the pirate "shotgun", was the deadliest killer, is wrong! they didnt test chain mail, OR the padding that a knight would have used at the period they were attempting to demostrate.
One of the ways to take down a knight during, that was commonly used in the later part of the dark ages, was to take two or more men, knock the knight down when you have a chance, and then stab them in the groin, as that was the most common weak spot in the armor, as there was no armor there. Then the knight would bleed to death.
And also the spartans were more disciplined then the knight or the samuri could ever hope for! They were taken at age 6 to train. Their training ended when they were 20 some, and if they survived. The women actually trained with spears and shields too till they were 18. The wedding ceremony was if a guy liked a girl he would try to addubt her, and if she didnt like him, she would beat the crap out of him! If the women are trained like the men, you KNOW that they are WAY more disclipined. .
another problem is that they only test the destructive power of weapons. the dont even do the tactics or anything. like the longsword vs the katana. im not saying that the i wanted the samarai to win but the katana is way faster and good for blocking.
same with the ninja's black eggs. logically how are you even going to see with glass and peppers in ur eye?? the ninja should have got the edge even though i was rooting for the spartan to win
i agree with you. the reason why knights became obsolete was because of the introduction of firearms. putting someone in full armour who can barely move against a pirate with a gun is stupid.
Well, actually, plate armor doesn't hinder your movement that much. Plate armor only weighs from 50-65 pounds usually. Compare this against the gear modern soldiers wear, which can weigh from 60-120 pounds.
yes, well that plus the 20 pounds or so of boiled leather that would go under the armor. so a grand total of 70-85 lbs of armour not including a shield and weapon. i think all of that would slow down a man considerably but not render him motionless (i admit to using a hyperbole before). don't you agree that it's still ridiculous to show a knight wearing/carrying all that and running after a pirate though? oh and US soldiers in iraq/afghanistan carry only about 50 lbs.. i can send you a link.
If you're wearing plate armor, you don't wear boiled leather underneath it. even earlier "Transitional" armors would only have maille and a doublet underneath. Plate armor of the 15th century was worn with the plates, some maill around key areas(Armpits, for instance) and an arming doublet underneath. As well, a shield is not typically used with plate armor, it had become superfluous. A weapon will only add (around) 3 pounds if it is a sword, or under ten pounds if it is a pole-weapon.
Absolute crock. A 3 lb. sword? We're not talking shitty modern stainless steel. Weapons weren't as light or efficiently made back then, same with the armour. I haven't seen the episode yet but the equipment has to be time-accurate. For example the original guandao, a polearm, weighed up to 100 lbs. Nowadays they can weigh 10 lbs. or less.
Not...really. Historical swords generally weigh around 3 pounds. Sometimes heavier, but if they're meant for combat even the largest generally hover around 6 pounds. Would you like some sources?
I try not to make a point of arguing on youtube. It just seemed to me with the way weapons have evolved, an iron broadsword would have to weigh a hell of a lot more. Depends on the specific time(10th century or 14th) style of sword(standard longsword or two-hander) and regional design choices.
Well, first of all, there's no such thing as a broadsword as a specific sword type outside of a few post-renaissance designs.
As well, a Longsword by definition /is/ two handed. These are the swords we incorrectly label as being "Hand and a half" swords. Even these are generally around 3 pounds.
The moar you know. I had meant longsword has a single handed, broadsword as hand and a half, two sword being something like a claymore, not that you'd expect a knight to use those. But bugger me, I've never handled an actual historic sword and was guessing on the basis of entirely different weapons.
That's perfectly alright. I blame the arrogance of many Victorian era fencers for contributing to the lack of information this generation has. The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts has a bunch of information on this topic.
I blame my laziness in pursuing further research and rather instead speculating on what I do gather hither and thither. Sometimes when a mind gets too open it leads to intellectual apathy. :>
In general, the ways weapons evolve don't take into consideration weight. Weight can, and often is, more of a problem than a solution. For instance, if you add too much weight, you lower the velocity at which the sword can be swung, hence decreasing the amount of damage you can deal with it. Designs to deal with different armors generally involve changing the shape of the weapon, but not the weight. For instance, pointier, more needlelike, or wider, more cleaver-like.
True also but that kind of goes with the regional styles thing. In different parts of the world there were certain trends followed in weapons and armours and styles, which is the whole basis of this show. I had meant rather as science advanced how it could physically affect the weapon in question(advancements in metallurgy, etc.)
You have friend-lock on. I have to respond through here.
The link; w w w . truthout . org / 020209N
"Individual Marine combat loads - including protective gear, weapons, ammunition, water, food and communications gear - range from 97 to 135 pounds, well over the recommended 50 pounds, a 2007 Navy study found."
"In Iraq, where patrols are more likely to use vehicles, loads range from 60 to nearly 100 pounds, he said."
"In Afghanistan, soldiers routinely carry loads of 130 to 150 pounds for three-day missions, said Jim Stone, acting director of the soldier requirements division at the Army Infantry Center at Fort Benning, Ga. In Iraq, where patrols are more likely to use vehicles, loads range from 60 to nearly 100 pounds, he said."
well the problem's obvious already. if a soldier's gonna pack for 3 days, then of course it's gonna be that much. and like i mentioned in the message i sent you, the standard soldier carrying enough for a DAY will probably have ~55 pounds of equipment only. if you're gonna get into food, water, heavy arms, explosives, enough ammo for 3 days, etc. then of course it's gonna weigh that much. and can i get sauce?
The problem with your link is that it doesn't focus upon what is /actually/ worn into combat. It's a theoretical and ideal "base line", or bare minimum. For instance, it doesn't take into consideration extra ammunition, communications equipment, water, and food, which can all add weight. Nor does it take into considerations additions to the armor, including ESAPIs and ESBIs, and DAPs, which all help to increase the weight of the Interceptor to 33 lbs. Again, 16lbs is the baseline.
actually, the weight DID include an m249 WITH extra ammo. i also added "extra ammunition, communications equipment" you saw on my tally on the bottom of said message (even included an m9 + ammo and some nades). MREs weigh next to nothing and nobody's hauling gallon-sized water tankards into battle. i will admit that the interceptor's full weight is that much though. i'd forgotten about those damn side inserts, shoulder, neck, and groin protectors haha. damn we sidetracked so much. =.=;;
And it also underestimated it, and the weight of ammunition, food, and water. As we can plainly see, according to my link, the weight ranges for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan do in fact range from 60-120 pounds. In fact, I could go further and say they range from 60-137 pounds.
if you add up all of JUST THE ARMOUR on the link i sent you, you'll still be 20 pounds short of my later estimate of 55 lbs. add an m249 PLUS ammo PLUS an m9 with ammo PLUS nades + other equipment and you get my 55 lbs (this is for one day only). your man jim stone is giving the range for THREE-DAY's worth of equipment. your original case was that knights are mobile enough to be on foot and you compared them to the modern soldier, saying if they can carry X amount then it's no prob for a knight.
contd from previous. ... who carries an X amount. well modern soldiers ARE having problems with their load and their DAILY loads are still less than a knight whose total equipment for ONE battle weighed easily over 100 pounds- methinks your comparison sort of failed. and my original case was that knights are NOT MOBILE enough to chase a pirate as shown in the video and i think that's clear enough. we sidetracked too much from the original point. well i gtg now so chew over that. later! :)
Again, there's no evidence that a Knight's equipment would be over 100 pounds. They would not be wearing boiled leather, for instance. Just the plate, a weapon and the doublet. This is well under 70 pounds for most cases. Horses were for other equipment.
you said: "Again, there's no evidence... equipment."
okay the boiled leather goes underneath the plate fyi. sometimes knights even had mail under their armor. knights didn't just put on the plate with regular clothing underneath because armor could seriously damage their own flesh and there is plenty of evidence supporting this. if you wanna take it up with someone, go do it with google. you'll find tons of articles and sites confirming this. and like i said you're forgetting the shield.
Once again, no, boiled leather does not go on under the plate. What DOES go on under the plate is a padded garment called an "Arming doublet". This padded garment is more than enough to protect against the chafing of the plates.
Second; By the time of plate armor, shields were on the way out. A person in plate armor is typically not going to be wielding a shield unless they're jousting.
As well, if you can find so many why don't you find a few which back up your statements, I'll find some too.
you're right. a doublet was more commonly put on under the breastplate. however, leather was still used and with the improvement of the crossbow, some found that just the doublet wasn't enough so they backed up some of the weaker spots in their armour with mail (some examples are the mail standard, cuisses, and mail braies), making it even heavier.
w w w . medieval - castle - siege - weapons . c o m / medieval - leather - armor . h t m l
That's not exactly an academic source, and it is stating something which is not backed up by the hsitorical evidence. There is no evidence that leather, which wouldn't do very much against a crossbow in the first place, would be used under the maille. Perhaps in small patches, but not enough to add significant weight.
"For plate armor, the knight or man-at-arms wore a specially fitted and padded garment called an arming doublet. Individual pieces of armor could be tied to the arming doublet where needed by arming points, ribbons, or strings attached to the doublet."
Again, no mention of leather. w w w . metmuseum . org / toah / hd / ufarm / hd_ufarm . htm
like i said before, you're probably right about the doublet thing. i don't see why you have to kick a man when he's conceding. but all that detail was NOT the point. our original debate centered around whether a knight would be able to run around like that in full armour after taking multiple pistol shots, a blast from a bomb, and a direct hit from a blunderbuss. i think it's highly unlikely.
my 2 cents was that this show is getting bogus. now please lay off unless you disagree with that.
Now, the absurd part doesn't have to do with the armor he was wearing. The absurd part had to do with the fact that they were one; overestimating the lethality of pistol rounds. Many later breastplates were able to survive being shot by pistols, especially from long ranges. The threat against plate was always Muskets, with pistols being more rare. You had to be really close to penetrate a breastplate with a pistol.
i really liked your video, but vikings did use long bows , Ivar the boneless was one of the most famous vikings and he used a bow but he also had to be carried on a shield because he couldnt walk , besides i think i the samuriah and vikings are 2 of the best warriors and after all it was only a 20 kill difference between them

Surely in a day and age of satalite television you could watch a documentary by real historians if you don't want to read a book about it... But if you're into this type of thing. They aren't real historians by the way.

To bad the science and math is all wrong. Its really a stupid show.
They dont really use alot of realistic information. The ninja had little to none Experts on them.
In real life, the Ninja if they had to would go into open warfare.
You yourself dont know much do you.
The only thing they do 4 weapons out of several hundreds that were used. Even worse is they get the weapons wrong for each warrior.
Its all weapons and not skill.

YEah, then i did research on the man. He only has a redbelt in Taekwondo.
So the show says he had multi black belts in Ninjutsu.
Alot of shows say crap like that.Lou Klein is only an actor, a stunt man. He has no real martial art experience.
The same for Sala Baker, the Maori weapons specialist.....who is in fact a Samoan...

@gamingeagle19 nah dude, look it up man... I watch the show and looked it up. I knew Sparta had the Ninja but the "expert" was not an expert...
naginnahehtmiolleh1 1 year ago
That is correct.
TV shows made entierly for entertainment are NOT "reliable proof".

gnrisinmyblood1 2 years ago
The only one I really disagree with was the second one. I don't care about a "typical" viking, because Viking is just a vague term for any Scandinavian raider. The difference between common raiders and the Huscarles or the Varangian Guard is so great, it's pointless to even consider them the same warriors. It would be like comparing the Japanese peasant conscripts to the Samurai. One warrior's name indicates his station, and the other's doesn't. It's largely semantics.
JuniusFaction 2 years ago
Although to be fair, "samurai" is not exactly a specific title, either. First of all it depends on era, and second, you could easily be samurai and yet not bushi. Many samurai, and this became increasingly true after the Sengoku jidai, were clerks and administrators, with little time or inclination to pursue martial arts. If we are talking early samurai then yes, they were a warrior class, but "samurai" grew to be a more complex term.
Gilmaris 2 years ago
Oh yeah? You make a really good point.
I'd just add that pop-culture focuses more on the warrior-Samurai than the poetry-writing, political nobles, whereas most pop-culture Vikings are just common pirates.

They also fought the Romans out of their territory, so that does account for something.
docdoom187 2 years ago
would all ninjas be faster than all spartans? the spartans have some armor on, that is true, but is that statement constant when comparing all of them? and you want to talk about fighting technique? do your research on Greek pankration. both the technique that was used for the sport and the battlefield where it was modified for weapon usage and life or death situations. it's every bit a martial art like ninjitsu. we need to stick with reality, not movie and anime crap.
docdoom187 2 years ago
Greek fighting style wasn't even as advanced back in 500 B.C. And as with the samurai, Spartan in armor could hardly resort to pankration as their shield is strapped in two places. But if yu were simply talking fighting styles, then yeah, a spar like i suggested in the next vid would make it more realistic.
"we need to stick with reality, not movie and anime crap."
Everyone must bring this up, shouldn't they? ninjutsu is, if you study it, a complicated style not shown in most movies.

Gregd8888 2 years ago
I don't think that the way that it utilized to determine the winner is at all accurate.
It seems that they just use the Odds of each of the weapons and then add up the numbers and the highest number wins.--for instance Gladiators. I know that they were very good fighters and fought to live. If a Gladiator was alive that means he's probably an awesome killer. The Indian lacks the resources to win, regardless of the effect of his weapon during the test on the jelly or pig meat.

I think ur right but werent the Ninjas mostly assassins and not really warriors?
farc300 2 years ago
They were just...samurai ..that specialized in espionage, disguise and guerrilla warfare... the whole hiding and assassination part was PROBABLY a myth..what i DO know is that the shuriken and those..little.. things they throw on the floor are not made for killing. A lot of their techniques are just to escape. Basically..they ambush.

genreconfusedboy62 2 years ago
No.. they were samurai..instead of being a moron, read a book. Look it up..stop using wiki.

aristokraticassassin 2 years ago
in real life ninjas are great warriors, I've been studying ninjutsu bujinkan and yagyu shinkage-ryu style kenjutsu. they would be able to use muto dori techniques to disarm there weapons, they "did" wear armor, they used mines, grenades, and many many different weapons that had poison on them, one cut and you would be screwed. the samurai beleived that shinobi used spirits to posess people and make them crazy, but this was just the techinis kickin in from poison.

there are many types of warriors. I agree it won't last forever but it could have a good run.
gamingeagle19 2 years ago
There is a slight problem that the show's pretty weapon-focused, and a lot of different warriors end up having similar weaponry. I think there's still enough variance among them all for a couple of seasons of this show, though! If they move to a more tactics-focused show, this could last really long.

That is why the code of chivalry was inteved by the pope in the first place to combat the violence against the people.
seeds11weed 2 years ago
Also during the Crusades, one of the main killers of men, BEFORE they fought was dehydration and heat stroke. CAUSE they not only had plate armor on, but also chain mail, and padding under the chainmail to protect them even further. SO to say that the pirate "shotgun", was the deadliest killer, is wrong! they didnt test chain mail, OR the padding that a knight would have used at the period they were attempting to demostrate.
seeds11weed 2 years ago
One of the ways to take down a knight during, that was commonly used in the later part of the dark ages, was to take two or more men, knock the knight down when you have a chance, and then stab them in the groin, as that was the most common weak spot in the armor, as there was no armor there. Then the knight would bleed to death.
seeds11weed 2 years ago
And also the spartans were more disciplined then the knight or the samuri could ever hope for! They were taken at age 6 to train. Their training ended when they were 20 some, and if they survived. The women actually trained with spears and shields too till they were 18. The wedding ceremony was if a guy liked a girl he would try to addubt her, and if she didnt like him, she would beat the crap out of him! If the women are trained like the men, you KNOW that they are WAY more disclipined. .
seeds11weed 2 years ago

they dont test speed. its only damagind power. the fastest fighter in the world vs the strongest fighter in the world. i think the fastest would win
caseyownsn00bs 2 years ago
another problem is that they only test the destructive power of weapons. the dont even do the tactics or anything. like the longsword vs the katana. im not saying that the i wanted the samarai to win but the katana is way faster and good for blocking.
same with the ninja's black eggs. logically how are you even going to see with glass and peppers in ur eye?? the ninja should have got the edge even though i was rooting for the spartan to win

fan0frammstein88 2 years ago
i agree with you. the reason why knights became obsolete was because of the introduction of firearms. putting someone in full armour who can barely move against a pirate with a gun is stupid.
b00mh34d5h07 2 years ago
Well, actually, plate armor doesn't hinder your movement that much. Plate armor only weighs from 50-65 pounds usually. Compare this against the gear modern soldiers wear, which can weigh from 60-120 pounds.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
yes, well that plus the 20 pounds or so of boiled leather that would go under the armor. so a grand total of 70-85 lbs of armour not including a shield and weapon. i think all of that would slow down a man considerably but not render him motionless (i admit to using a hyperbole before). don't you agree that it's still ridiculous to show a knight wearing/carrying all that and running after a pirate though? oh and US soldiers in iraq/afghanistan carry only about 50 lbs.. i can send you a link.
b00mh34d5h07 2 years ago
If you're wearing plate armor, you don't wear boiled leather underneath it. even earlier "Transitional" armors would only have maille and a doublet underneath. Plate armor of the 15th century was worn with the plates, some maill around key areas(Armpits, for instance) and an arming doublet underneath. As well, a shield is not typically used with plate armor, it had become superfluous. A weapon will only add (around) 3 pounds if it is a sword, or under ten pounds if it is a pole-weapon.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
Absolute crock. A 3 lb. sword? We're not talking shitty modern stainless steel. Weapons weren't as light or efficiently made back then, same with the armour. I haven't seen the episode yet but the equipment has to be time-accurate. For example the original guandao, a polearm, weighed up to 100 lbs. Nowadays they can weigh 10 lbs. or less.
Kyross 2 years ago
Not...really. Historical swords generally weigh around 3 pounds. Sometimes heavier, but if they're meant for combat even the largest generally hover around 6 pounds. Would you like some sources?
Caliburnis 2 years ago
I try not to make a point of arguing on youtube. It just seemed to me with the way weapons have evolved, an iron broadsword would have to weigh a hell of a lot more. Depends on the specific time(10th century or 14th) style of sword(standard longsword or two-hander) and regional design choices.
Kyross 2 years ago
Well, first of all, there's no such thing as a broadsword as a specific sword type outside of a few post-renaissance designs.
As well, a Longsword by definition /is/ two handed. These are the swords we incorrectly label as being "Hand and a half" swords. Even these are generally around 3 pounds.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
The moar you know. I had meant longsword has a single handed, broadsword as hand and a half, two sword being something like a claymore, not that you'd expect a knight to use those. But bugger me, I've never handled an actual historic sword and was guessing on the basis of entirely different weapons.
Kyross 2 years ago
That's perfectly alright. I blame the arrogance of many Victorian era fencers for contributing to the lack of information this generation has. The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts has a bunch of information on this topic.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
I blame my laziness in pursuing further research and rather instead speculating on what I do gather hither and thither. Sometimes when a mind gets too open it leads to intellectual apathy. :>
Kyross 2 years ago
In general, the ways weapons evolve don't take into consideration weight. Weight can, and often is, more of a problem than a solution. For instance, if you add too much weight, you lower the velocity at which the sword can be swung, hence decreasing the amount of damage you can deal with it. Designs to deal with different armors generally involve changing the shape of the weapon, but not the weight. For instance, pointier, more needlelike, or wider, more cleaver-like.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
True also but that kind of goes with the regional styles thing. In different parts of the world there were certain trends followed in weapons and armours and styles, which is the whole basis of this show. I had meant rather as science advanced how it could physically affect the weapon in question(advancements in metallurgy, etc.)
Kyross 2 years ago
As well, find me your link stating that US soldiers only carry around 50 lbs. I have a link of my own which states that it ranges from 60-120.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
yeah dude i just sent it through a message. hope you got it haha.
b00mh34d5h07 2 years ago
And you're about to get my response. I hope you like it.
Caliburnis 2 years ago
You have friend-lock on. I have to respond through here.
The link; w w w . truthout . org / 020209N
"Individual Marine combat loads - including protective gear, weapons, ammunition, water, food and communications gear - range from 97 to 135 pounds, well over the recommended 50 pounds, a 2007 Navy study found."
"In Iraq, where patrols are more likely to use vehicles, loads range from 60 to nearly 100 pounds, he said."
Caliburnis 2 years ago
"In Afghanistan, soldiers routinely carry loads of 130 to 150 pounds for three-day missions, said Jim Stone, acting director of the soldier requirements division at the Army Infantry Center at Fort Benning, Ga. In Iraq, where patrols are more likely to use vehicles, loads range from 60 to nearly 100 pounds, he said."
Caliburnis 2 years ago
well the problem's obvious already. if a soldier's gonna pack for 3 days, then of course it's gonna be that much. and like i mentioned in the message i sent you, the standard soldier carrying enough for a DAY will probably have ~55 pounds of equipment only. if you're gonna get into food, water, heavy arms, explosives, enough ammo for 3 days, etc. then of course it's gonna weigh that much. and can i get sauce?
b00mh34d5h07 2 years ago
First point; I've already given you the source. It's two posts below your own.
As well, that one post regarding the three day mission is for 130-150 pounds. Look at my other two quotes. In particular;
""In Iraq, where patrols are more likely to use vehicles, loads range from 60 to nearly 100 pounds, he said."
Caliburnis 2 years ago
The problem with your link is that it doesn't focus upon what is /actually/ worn into combat. It's a theoretical and ideal "base line", or bare minimum. For instance, it doesn't take into consideration extra ammunition, communications equipment, water, and food, which can all add weight. Nor does it take into considerations additions to the armor, including ESAPIs and ESBIs, and DAPs, which all help to increase the weight of the Interceptor to 33 lbs. Again, 16lbs is the baseline.

actually, the weight DID include an m249 WITH extra ammo. i also added "extra ammunition, communications equipment" you saw on my tally on the bottom of said message (even included an m9 + ammo and some nades). MREs weigh next to nothing and nobody's hauling gallon-sized water tankards into battle. i will admit that the interceptor's full weight is that much though. i'd forgotten about those damn side inserts, shoulder, neck, and groin protectors haha. damn we sidetracked so much. =.=;;

Caliburnis 2 years ago
you said: "Again, there's no evidence... equipment."
okay the boiled leather goes underneath the plate fyi. sometimes knights even had mail under their armor. knights didn't just put on the plate with regular clothing underneath because armor could seriously damage their own flesh and there is plenty of evidence supporting this. if you wanna take it up with someone, go do it with google. you'll find tons of articles and sites confirming this. and like i said you're forgetting the shield.
