Oh wow. I thought this was a great rendition of one of my favorite songs. I know that the more ways to hear a great song. The better! Queen is my very favoite band ever. I loved the old version. I am not really familiar with Jason really at all. I will try and hear more from him. Because of this great cover.
@Jicksapeg exactly. im not even a fan of jason and this cover doesn't even compare to freddie, but when you cover a queen song you cant dare to change anything. its QUEEN! they are gods! if you even attempt to try their masterpieces you absolutely CAN'T touch or screw up their shit- its perfect the way it is.
@kaziqaleph haha hate to burst your innocent bubble dear, but Freddie was as gay as the day is long. But hey! I'm not disrespectin, he was a pretty awesome singer :)
WAIT A MINUTE. do you all mean to tell me that Queen fellar is a gay? this is me and my girls "song." we danced to this and kissed to it. I ain't kissin my lady to some buttlover's music. I knew i should have made our song "I need you" by skynyrd. Atleast them boys appreciated some boobs with a lady attached to em.
Who frickin' cares if it was written by one dude about another. If you're hetero, just imagine it's you singing to your wife or gf. Geez. Now shut the hell up.
haha missing that magical queen harmony to push it over the edge, but jason pulls off the chorus beautifully. still the original has a magical world (edwardian/victorian) all unto itself, self-mesmerism stretching over to "lover" & listeners in utterly silly stylin' power of lurrrrrrving:P
Just cuz Freddie was bisexual doesn't mean his love songs are about men. In Bohemian Rhapsody, the main character kills a man; that doesn't mean Freddie killed a man. It doesn't matter if any or all of his songs were written with a male lover in mind; I'm just saying that just because you write a song doesn't mean you can personally identify with that character.
i understand that everyone is always gonna have a problem with someone covering a song from one of their favorite bands. that said, you can't discount mraz's vocal chops just because he isn't freddie mercury.
It's okay I guess, but Freddie did a waaaaaay better job!!! This just sounds terrible in comparison. I like Jason Mraz, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to Queen, it's very hard to make a song of theirs sound good after Freddie having done it. Freddie was the best!!!
not bad at all. just makes you appreciate freddie more. he made it seem so effortless: old timey romantic with the slightest seediness underneath. it's not all so idol sweet. still a good try tho
Nice voice and all... I only wish he would have made it more his own style? The instrumentation is nearly identical to the original. More stylized would have been better. Not bad, though.
Esta version algo tiene de linda :) el xdd tiene un poquito al apariencia de paul de los beatles xdd pero en fin igual em gusto esta version xd aunque la original no tiene comparacion :3
@betumene Actually it looks like it's the Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy singing to somebody, could be a boy or a girl, depends on your side of the force. ;)
This is not a "gay" song - it does not specify whether it's a girl or boy that's the target of "love" in this song. Just because Freddie was gay, doesn't mean the song is about gay love.
it's a bit of a shame that he didn't put more of himself in it. i mean, the arrangements sounds so much like the orginal, kinda like a de luxe karaoke version with slightly inferior quality... when you make a cover you shouldn't try and make it sound the same, i think.
OMFG! This is is about a guy and another guy. Originally sung by Freddie Mercury who was extremely gay. And it's the song to for a guy to sing to another guy. IT"S a fucking gay love song. And it's amazing. An old classic.
And just quit with the fucking "gay" and enjoy the song.
@betumene well yea.. but no where does it say its to a dude freddie mercury is the lover boy and he talking to whoever the lover is which is unstated so you could pretend its a girl if youre a homophobe.. great song nonetheless
@betumene Get your facts straight before you go spreading false information. This song is NOT a song for a guy to sing to another guy but is simply for any romantic couple. Freddie stated himself that the song describes how a "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy" would act on a date to his romantic love interest, girl or guy. I appreciate the fact that you agree that it's an amazing song but it's not meant to be just about gay couples and if anything, is very little about gay couples.
@betumene freddie was gay, but this song was written when he was still with mary austin, before he came out of the closet... it's not a gay song, it's just a love song
of course, no one can beat freddie at performing any of his songs ever. but this version's not bad, actually it's great for me. jason rocks, and him making a cover of queen also in some ways pays tribute to Freddie. so, i'm happy i've heard it, like it a lot.
Didn't like it too much, Jason's voice doesn't add anithing new to the song, indeed it sounds quite like Freddy's voice in that song. I mean, he could have at least added changes in the melody...
I really don't like this....I hate when people cover really good classic songs :/ not as bad as Adam Lambert's version of Johnny cash's Ring of Fire, but I'm oh so not happy with thisss
This is far worse than the original. Sounds like a school boy singing while dressed in his mum's evening dress infront of his mirror. Jason, only copy if you can add something different, stop just trying to make money for the sake of it.
Damn...this is the FIRST cover of an amazing song I've ever heard that hasn't been butchered. Of course I still like Queen's guitar in it better, but Mraz actually did an AWESOME job covering this! I think Queen would be impressed!
Jason Mraz does an amazing job covering this song. It's my favorite Queen song of all time and I love this. :D

Great cover of a really GREAT Queen song. This is the first I've heard you and your voice is like crystal baby! I tip my hat to you for even knowing to cover this song. Not many people (outside of Queen lovers) know this song. Love it!
great cover, but the original has a charm that this one lacks. still, jason mraz is great! :)
also, this song isn't "homo"
it's a conversation.
the verses and first half of the bridge are from the point of view of the "good old fashioned lover boy". the chorus and second half of the bridge are from the point of view of the rest of the band talking to him.
There's really no comparison. Freddie's voice is fucking /amazing/ and inspiring and makes you feel. Mraz can't put that real emotion into the song. However, I'm really glad he didn't do some jazzy version of this. And the cover isn't /too/ bad.
I have to admit i was ALMOST excited when I heard that Mraz covered this song. But I was expecting a usual jazzy guitar arrangement by him on the guitar, not this sing-along
I'm gonna get a ton of shit for this but I'm not liking this. I mean, A for effort and its not like I could do any better, but I just don't like it. I'd rather listen to the original.
Actually a great cover, just not different enough from Queen's, really. Guitar solo was a bit meh, but the rest was pretty much...well, a Queen cover. Usually, Mraz's voice is very distinctive. Here, not so much.
I love this version and its pretty much sound the same as the Queen classic original version.Jason Mar can reach the high notes as Freddie did and make it it his own
Think it's better than the original.

Sry...but the Queen-Version is way better. It's a kind of karaoke, I think...-.- Freddie's voice is stonger and more emotional. But its ok ;D

recordings don't do jason mraz much justice. the inspiration really comes through when he's performing live.

Here, not so much.

his voice is smooth... it's not that bad... But freddy was more emotional... besides his voice was way better... stronger and more beatiful...

I love this version and its pretty much sound the same as the Queen classic original version.Jason Mar can reach the high notes as Freddie did and make it it his own
