  • Grover Norquist is scum

  • Grover is a capitol hill troll. Where does his paycheck come from? Who specifically are the contributors of his non prophet cult?

  • OMG just when I thought it couldn't get hotter I find this clip. He is the sexiest man on Youtube. You're my daddy. You're my daddy.

  • You dumb ass it's your fault the USA just got it's credit downgraded!

  • who is this gnome with a chip on his shoulder?

  • I think every elected official that signed Grover Norquist's Anti-Tax Pledge should be recalled on charges of: neglect, incompetence, violation of oath, misuse of office and hate crime for their contempt for the poor and middle class.

  • Comment removed

  • As long as the government continues to waste tons of money on farm subsidies and ethanol to make food more expensive, I don't see how anyone can be for a tax increase (will only make it worse). I want my money back.

  • I love how the CNN debate was US, REGULAR AMERICANS get to ask the candidates questions.

Then comes Grover Norquist, one of the biggest lobbyists in Washington. Way to go, CNN.

  • What a dumb question .. I'm not surprised this was chosen - this fellow here represents millions of like-minded idiots.

  • chapaev, you are full of crap. grover has done quite a bit for this country in trying to keep our dollars in our own pockets.

i'm sorry to hear you hate your hard earned money so much.

  • xkiesterx, get your head out of the sand. Grover Norquist doesn't give a rat's ass about the average citizen. His anti-tax organization is clearly designed to favor those at the top 1% like himself. He doesn't care if we, the American people all drown in a bathtub (to paraphrase his famous quote. Grover Norquist is NOT America's friend. Grover Norquist is our enemy.

  • Do you have any idea who pays taxes in this country. Here's a hint, it's not the poor.

The top 1% of the US pays 39.89% of taxes, the top 5% pay 60.14%, the top ten pay 70.79%, the top 25 pay 86.27, the top 50 pay 97.01.

Realistically, half of the American public pay virtually no taxes. That's the reality of the situation.

I'm in that bottom 50%, but I'm not unreasonable enough to believe that our tax system is fair. Facts are stubborn things.

  • Considering the wealthy can AFFORD to pay the taxes that they are paying, it's no big loss to me. What Norquist wants to do is shift the tax burden from the poor to the wealthy. BTW during the Kennedy Adminstration, the top 1% were paying 90% in taxes. They are in NO position to complain about how high taxes are. Sorry.

  • Of course they are in a position to complain. Look at the facts. Half the country lives off the dole of the other half, it's very simple. From each according to his ability, to each according to his need is a scary, scary road.

  • In that case what would you propose? Mike Huckabee's 22% sales tax? Which is quite regressive and even scares the jeepers out of Wall Street.

  • @xkiesterx bollocks

  • Ron Paul was right, raising taxes is only half the problem. The other 50% is STOP THE SPENDING!

  • haha

    why are people so anti-taxes

usually the wealthiest scum the most

i think they run a good purpose when they are fair to everybody

    actually

how bout just a big FAT tax for all the wealthy mongrels who can never appreciate life anyway

not like they can't afford it

if you love america pay your share

it's disloyal to say "why should i help anybody else"

  • Indexing is always used to accommodate the rate of inflation. The people under the government aren't the only ones who need money; the government does too. As inflation runs now at 3%, you can always expect an increase in taxes to accommodate this.

  • Look at the waste of money in the gaming/lottery industry. Why can't American's have a gaming establishment to capture this money for Social Security and Health Care? You may never win the lottery or a slot machine jackpot, but if this money we use for recreation were being filtered back to the American People to subsidize our programs we would all be winners.

  • to suggest that 'my money is my money' is dishonest ~ it came about because certain economic conditions were facilitated in large part by the government's (all of our) contribution to the stability of our economy (public education, widespread subsidies of most fundamental commodities, etc.).

so once that wealth is accrued, it ought not be too much to ask those that benefit most from the common contribution to a stable economic condition be asked to give a bit back.

  • also, there is no valid law that authorizes the govt. to collect income tax.....in a recent court ruling, they validated that the 16 amendment was not legally ratified by a sufficient number of states

  • This may be true, however the constitution allows the use of an excise tax, which can be used to tax (any rate) on pretty much anything. (And by this I /do/ mean virtually anything). Sometimes some of the most simple concepts are overlooked. :)

  • promises promises promises

  • If the people we send to Washington would manage our government and stop the fiscal irresponsibility maybe raising taxes would not be an issue. Also perhaps they could spend less of their term in office running for re-election...that would be nice.

  • We'll get plenty of both if this crazy numbskull's theories continue to be implemented!

  • billary other democs will be raise tax to support all illegal alien benefits

  • We ought to be laughing at the Laffer Curve! I doubt any of these idiological idiots ever had to work a menial job before, yet these jerkoffs won't hesitate to lecture us "prolitariate" types on how we should "pick ourselves up by our bootstraps". The only fundamentalists being defeated in Iraq are the "free-market" ones!

  • No kidding. Jude Wanniski and Larry Kudlow can't stop banging the tax cut drum long enough to have a clue about the practical impacts of their ideology.

  • The Laffer curve is correct and has been proven during the Reagan years and now in the Bush years. Clinton rode the Reagan gravy train until his tax hikes kicked in which helped cause a recession at the end of his disastrous era of lies and scandals.

  • Did your economics professor tell you this? Do me a favor and go to Ohio and Michigan and please tell me that Bush's tax cuts are generating wealth for all segments and benefitting society!Better yet, work at Walmart for a week!I'm currently postulating the Partymariner Curve in which I display a correlation between vast income disparity and massive social upheaval (revolutions,fascism..etc)! Speaking of lies and scandals, should I list the crimes of Bush and Reagan? You have no clue!

  • Grover is what I really want to drown in a bathtub.

  • Yes he wants the government to supply only the services HE needs, and he doesn't even want to pay for those...another greedy irresponsible right wing moron.

  • your free to give away all the money you want, why should i have too as well?

  • Go live on a deserted island if you can't handle civilization.

  • no really, do you have a good reason why i should be forced to give away my earnings in a free society?

  • you are free to give away all the money you want, but should i be forced to as well?

  • sorry for the repeat, my posting is acting very funny, long laggs or some such

  • Grover, ask all the candidates how many of Naiomi Wolfe's 10 Stages of Dictatorship will be in effect after they take office. She makes a complelling argument Bush is 10 for 10.

  • For Norquist and those of his persuasion, tax cuts are a religion. Supply-siders think that the automatic solution to every policy issue is to cut taxes. Of course, they're the first to complain when their streets have potholes. So Norquist is entitled to his opinion, but neither history nor pragmatism comes down on his side.

  • Bush is one of the biggest "taxers" this country has ever seen. It's called deficit spending, and it's a tax your kids and grand kids have to pay.

  • Many candidates have said we do not need to raise taxes, just change some of the things that are being done. We also need to change the entire tax system.

    Sparkles aka Gammy

  • Many of the main candidates are saying that we don't need to raise taxes to change things, but we do need many changes to make taxes effective now. We do need to change the entire tax system.

  • If you care about taxes, you don't care about the right topic. Ron Paul please.

  • Personally, I'd like to see taxes raised on the riches 1% of Americans, cancel billions of foreign and domestic military spending, and spend more on health care and other domestic needs.

  • THANK GOD YOUR NOT IN CHARGE.Health care an other domestic needs won't mean a thing when some terrorist kills you.

  • You sound paranoid and misinformed. To stop terrorism we need to cut off the radicals from their potential followers. We do that by ceasing our support for Israeli expansion into Palestine. Saves money and lives at the same time.

  • We won't have any goddamn terrorists if we stop killing everything in their lands. Besides, the chances of getting killed by a terrorist now is the same chance of getting strucked by lightning... twice.

  • that's one question he doesn't have to ask Ron Paul

he's for the flat tax, if you consider 0% a flat rate

  • In a perfect world, the government would have very low taxes. In your world, Grover (and I have to say as an aside, I'm sorry your parents named your what sounds like a Sesame Street charater) the gov't wouldn't pay for anything... however; history is not on your side.
