Could Deniro show any less interest in being there? I love the guy as an actor and have seen enough behind the scenes type stuff to know that he isn't normally so boring. I really do get the impression that Dustin Hoffman dragged him there and there is a reason he never went on Lettermans show for 30 years.

It is about as simple as what you said. Bob doesn't owe the audience or the interviewer anything. In certain situations Robert is more extroverted, but as a rule of thumb he's not going to give the interviewer or the audience that satisfaction that they would extract if he were very outwardly thankful and effusive about the great roles he's played and how he's flattered by the amount of fans he has and that so many feel he's left an indelible mark on cinema worldwide.

Terrible interview. When you have to pull out the filmographies and go down a list of films obviously shows no preparation on either the actors nor Letterman's sides.

I happened to meet De Niro's mother and she told me that when he was young and at school his teachers commented that they thought there was something wrong with his behaviour and that he seemed to "lack a personality"...this may shed some light on the comment that Tefa made...he simply is very introverted.

These three has been there and done it over and over again. There's no amount of crowd pressure that could make these guys knees rattle, not even pressure from one another- and I think they're smart enough to realise it so they would't even bother. Yeah it's De Niro's first ever apperance on Lettermen, and they made it quite the sell out point of the whole awkwardness- for idiots like you anyhow- but It's an act.

@TefaDevilAgain I totally agree. It was just awkwardly funny. Everybody is upset at the way Deniro acted, but it wasn't that big a deal. He wasn't trying to be cold and rude, he just isn't good at conversation, which is fine. He's an actor, not a talk show host.

It wasn't a big deal, thats why its not planned. If you think about it, it's really not that bad. Deniro is known for being shy in the public eye, he really is, and sometimes people think he's being evasive as a gag but look close, he just doesn't entertain showbiz talkshow flatter with typical celeb stories. Right in these moments people usually have a story planned so we all listen. What else would we do? But Deniro humbly answers and gives no stories. Why must he? I think it's true humility.
