David Letterman - disrespectful, no-class-what-so-ever, as always... I can very much undersatand why this is Deniros first visit to Letterman. Also, seems that Deniro just want´s to punch him the face (sad he didn´t do it).
Once they completed Ishtar, they were looking for a name for it. Someone wrote down what they thought it was on a mirror but ran out of space for the last letter and mixed the s and h up - the movie's title was then found.
Amazing work they do. Both fantastic... But seems like they were praising the work they did decades ago. Love the guys. But acting Is just like any thing else. You're only as good as your last gig. They know it. That's why they didn't look so enthused. They shouldn't have been there.
Could Deniro show any less interest in being there? I love the guy as an actor and have seen enough behind the scenes type stuff to know that he isn't normally so boring. I really do get the impression that Dustin Hoffman dragged him there and there is a reason he never went on Lettermans show for 30 years.
Deniro is acting. That's what he does. Act. And because he does it so well most people here think it is real. Plus it also is the image that many people have of him, and because I think he likes that image he's trying to further it here. Ans it's also goddamn funny.
ow cut if off, he is not being cold or rude..their fucking old men, one is 68 and the other 74! give them the chance to relax during a show, what do you want them to do, the tom cruise?
I don't think Deniro was being a dick here. People know him to be extremely shy and quiet irl and he's just playing up that aspect of his personality to produce lulz and awkwardness. If it isn't an act thought then Letterman's one hell of a host lol
SIMPLE THING: hoffman is an extrovert and deniro is an introvert.
thats all. please stop picking on deniro guys. only people with shyness can understand him. and please judge him or anyone by his work, not the way he socially behaves, it hardly matters. i see lot actors do great socially but actually they are lieing n suck at their work. i'd encourage people more to be themselves, rather than being clones of each other n making same old jokes by being fake!
It is about as simple as what you said. Bob doesn't owe the audience or the interviewer anything. In certain situations Robert is more extroverted, but as a rule of thumb he's not going to give the interviewer or the audience that satisfaction that they would extract if he were very outwardly thankful and effusive about the great roles he's played and how he's flattered by the amount of fans he has and that so many feel he's left an indelible mark on cinema worldwide.
Terrible interview. When you have to pull out the filmographies and go down a list of films obviously shows no preparation on either the actors nor Letterman's sides.
Makes me nostalgic for the days when Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart and the like would show up on the Tonight show and actually be entertaining!
@drewby7777 And yet all those people you mentioned are exactly that ENTERTAINERS except for Jimmy Stewart all those dudes are Singers/musicians/entertainers first and foremost NOT actors.
I happened to meet De Niro's mother and she told me that when he was young and at school his teachers commented that they thought there was something wrong with his behaviour and that he seemed to "lack a personality"...this may shed some light on the comment that Tefa made...he simply is very introverted.
@archive001 i dont think hes angry, he just gets really uncomfortable when people compliment him. i dont necessarily understand it, but its the way he reacts. he softspoken and modest, interviews arent his thing.
It was funny how dustin spent 15 min making fun of rdn, and then the filmography came out and he just had to shut the fuck up, that's how big he is that somebody with many great movies like dustin hoffman looks lackluster next to him.
I cant wait for the DeNiro, Pacino,Pesci, Marty movie .
i mean honestly who is bigger DeNiro or Letterman, DeNiro is a legend, the best actor of his generation. If dave started making fun of a punk insecure actor the reaction would be diferent, but DeNiro just checked out, a cool cat reaction.
The audience don't help with the awkwardness of the interview, they can't stop fucking laughing at every single sentence!!! For fuck's sake guys, take some valium and RELAX!!!!! Letterman - "The sky is blue and the grass is green", Audience - " Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!! The audience are really annoying, they keep laughing their asses off! And Letterman has the most annoying laugh!!!
Craig Ferguson would've been much much better than Letterman at this interview. David's mumbling and lack of eye contact with the guests is frustrating.
These three has been there and done it over and over again. There's no amount of crowd pressure that could make these guys knees rattle, not even pressure from one another- and I think they're smart enough to realise it so they would't even bother. Yeah it's De Niro's first ever apperance on Lettermen, and they made it quite the sell out point of the whole awkwardness- for idiots like you anyhow- but It's an act.
@Ficehdulah Yeah It's Letterman they won't just allow something like that to happen if it wasn't planned, that's what I think at least, and if you think about it, it's not really that bad, no one rushed out or raised their voice or any of the stuff that usually happens, I just found it awkwardly funny
@TefaDevilAgain I totally agree. It was just awkwardly funny. Everybody is upset at the way Deniro acted, but it wasn't that big a deal. He wasn't trying to be cold and rude, he just isn't good at conversation, which is fine. He's an actor, not a talk show host.
It wasn't a big deal, thats why its not planned. If you think about it, it's really not that bad. Deniro is known for being shy in the public eye, he really is, and sometimes people think he's being evasive as a gag but look close, he just doesn't entertain showbiz talkshow flatter with typical celeb stories. Right in these moments people usually have a story planned so we all listen. What else would we do? But Deniro humbly answers and gives no stories. Why must he? I think it's true humility.
@Ficehdulah Sorry, what exactly is supposed to be an act? That Letterman was obnoxious and annoying with his stupid laughter? That the retarded audience laugh their asses off all the time? And that this was a terrible fucking interview?!!!! Please stop the BS sir!!!!!!

@93johnk All three of these characters have an awkward personalty anyway, coupled with them feeling pressured to deliver an interesting interview, Deniro and Hoffman being on Letterman is a big deal it seems
@JHmagic1 no i mean the subject of the interview. this is a late night talk show not a film class. its awkward to talk about Raging Bull or Midnight Cowboy. they should just talk about lighter subjects like what they been doing recently.
