Because the game engine was reintegrated into Blender in October 2008 - we started our project in October 2007. And I don't know any Python, only C++.
Maybe I can use "logic bricks", but I don't want to. Yes, I learned C++ (years ago), and no, it's not that hard to learn. But it's hard to do something sophisticated with it.
I'd recommend you to stick with Blender's game engine and learning things about game development this way.
Along the way you should learn a programming language like C/C++, without game programming at the beginning. There are some good books online, but I always recommend to buy at least one or two. As soon as you feel you can accomplish small tasks with C++, try to create a text adventure. After that, some small 2D game, with SDL or any other 2D engine. After that, you could try out Irrlicht.
fuckin good

As stated above, we used Irrlicht, a free 3D engine, written in C++. The models were made with 3dsmax8 and the level in Irredit.

Yeah ... speed was planned to be a skill that the player can train. So at the beginning, nearly every character would be pretty slow.
