I'm terribly sorry to say that but just listen to bartoli's "anche il mar por che sommerga" between 1.03 and 1.06 she seems to squeak like a dog toy!! For those who tell bartoli's aria is better, just open your ears or take music lessons and you'll understand ! Bartoli "anche il mar" is really not good compared ti what she's able to offer !! Besides, Ciofi is not particularly a baroque singer and what she gives us here is quite good even though unperfect !! Anch'io dico BRAVA e GRAZIE Patrizia
this is some of the most impressive singing I've ever heard. She is fabulous. And if you mean she "kills" this aria, as in, she totally rocked that piece so awesomely hard that it died, I would agree. Brava Ciofi.
Ciofi in this case is really better than other bad (real?) baroque singers. She sings every note really in tune, vith a good projection of voice and nuances. Pronounciation coul be more detailed, but the time is too quick to let her do better!
Shame for those without ear and most likely without voices who dare to insult and make offensive videos on, not only a great perfomer, but also a great performance. Let us hear you sing, maybe then WE can decide who's killing it......
You can't say she sings it bad. It's correct, with a rather good technique. BUT It's soooooo boring, dull, UNINSPIRED...
Ok Bartoli lays it on thick, she likes playing to the gallery, but it's a fact : she's stunning, she makes the show.
Anyway, Ciofi doesn't really kill Vivaldi here. If you want to understand what is "kill Vivaldi", look on youtube Montserrat Caballé in "Agitata da due venti". She deserves the death penalty for that!
Credo che la parola "Kills" sia ironica e volutamente provocatoria. L'esecuzione è eccellente, secondo me stilisticamente superiore a quella della Bartoli. La tecnica vocale è molto pulita, cosa essenziale per l'intelligibilità delle note di quest'aria estremamente virtuosistica e di grande difficoltà esecutiva.

Ok, so I guess you should become an actor. As for Opera singers, they need to sing - sing with enough projection, feeling and throughout the range -, and not speak every word with crisp diction. Then, after becoming an actor, try learning how to spell properly (aunnciate??). Perhaps the many classes you took to be able to sing better than Ciofi at age 12 were somewhat harmful to other necessary parts of your education... ;-P

La ciofi ha una voce piccola leggera e molto fissa. Le basi sono buone il problema è che le manca completamente la tecnica: i fiati sn orribili, spesso prende le note dal basso e gli acuti non sono girati per nulla. POi quest'aria proprio non è adatta alla sua vocalità. Il barocco in genrale nn è per lei. Io la sento come un soprano di garbo mozartiano tipo Susanna,Pamina o se imparasse a mettere nella voce quello che serve anche una Despina....

I have Bartol's version of this aria on my computer and well she cuts a lot of words more noticeable then ciofi and her breathing is much more noticable I appreciate bartoli, but i think ciofi far surpasses her in this aria
I totally agree, Ciofi isn't singing many notes because she isn't breathing correctly. She cuts terribly many words. To sing correctly this aria (and any other one) is not only having a beautiful voice (she has a very beautiful coloratura voice), it's about having a really baroque style, understand absolutely every word of the text, and having breathing order!! Please listen to Bartoli's version, she really does a very good job with this aria.
