Oh fab! For years I've been going round with that witch's voice shouting ''Paulus!''

in my head and thinking I might need professional help because I had imagined it was from a telly programme..

I knew I didnt imagine it - i lived in Poole as a child. No one I know since I grew up can remember it so I thought I had dreamt it......... But it used to scare me something rotten so maybe I nightmared it!

I can remember watching this at my nan's house in Ipswich. I can rememember the theme tune to this day. I was so scared of that which. I only saw it in black and white in those days, so it looks a bit strange in colour. Great to find some footage of this after not seeing it for 40 years!

Also superb english voice characterisation. The badger was reminiscent of Spike Milligan in the Goons and was that Ringo Starr voicing one character pre Thomas The Tank Engine days.

I remember this so clearly. the witch chasing paulus back to his tree house, i'm sure he lived there with his dad. It used to scare the life out of me. I'm nearly 44 , so must have been watching this when i was about 2 or 3 as my older brother had just started school and was home alone (with my mum of course) but no siblings. OMG! I remember trying to convince my contempories that this evil show existed. That refrain "she's out to get you, out to get you" stuck in my head for years. What I saw of this show terrified me, even watching it now. Argh. 'Hoppity' was another one that scared the pants of me.

Just one thing puzzles me a little, in some recent comments ( not comments that were made 2 years ago) it's just the recent ones... people have said they were 41 or 42 years old remember watching this? Well it was broadcast during 68/69. That's 40/41 years ago at least, so they must be older... i'm 46 and just about remember it!

this is weird!! i have a photographic memory, and at 43 years of age, i always knew that Paulus existed!! Do you know the amazing thing? As soon as the image flashed up just now, I was surprised it was in colour! Of course, i only had a black and white TV!! I even remember it being in black and white. Not one person i have ever asked, of the bloody many, remember it. It was 1968/69. i was 3 or 4. that witch scared me to death too.

I was asking my parents if they remembered this puppet show on TV that I used to watch as a child..with a scary witch in it. I was only 2 or 3 when it aired. I couldn't remember the names of any characters, nor the name of the show (I remembered it had a G somewhere in the title - that must have been the gnome part lol) but I could describe some of the characters. They just looked at me blankly... Thanks so much for proving I am sane =)

Oh yes, I remember the theme too! Dubbed from the Dutch "Paulus de Boskabouter" and screened in the UK in 1967-68, apparently. Good to see a kids' TV lead enjoying his pipe in the intro - happy days!
