The original tune was from Elivis Presley's "Margaruita" and copied by Shanker/JaiKishen for a beautiful piece by the one-and-only Rafi... The Sinhala version from the movie became a classic of its own amongst Sri Lankans.. The movie Edath Suraya... was a copy of a Tamil movie "Thirudan(?") starring Shivaji Ganeshan.
Thanks for your opinion, you are correct, the Tamil movies have the best dialogs, During the 50's to 70's the Sinhala cinema was based on tamil and hindi movies, and some of them were made in India.
Thanks for your comment, What I feel is Music is Music whether Tamil, English, German, Sinhala or what ever as you think . Anyway my thinking is Music can bring harmony among every living being. Thru meditation and religion belief's, if everyone can improve their own minds, this whole world will not have any trouble or war. No one else but mankind created this situation. This song is for your mom and you both Rgds Palitha
very well said and i agree with you. i mean we celebrate so much of our differences that we forgot our similarities. i'm just not fond of this song cause i'm both sinhala/tamil but i have more tamil influence, but my mother loves this song, what i meant was that this song's lyrics aren't powerful about love as the tamils' songs but its only opinion
Also Nanda Malini (the stuff she composed the music for), Victor Ratnayake, T. M. Jayaratne, Dharmadasa Walpola and Neela Wickremasinghe (with the right music director)..

This isn't really the best Sri Lankan music has to offer.. Have you heard Amaradeva, Ananda Samarakoon, Neville Fernando, etc?
