I see the CO2 thing as a white-lie, because it is possibly to difficult for many people to understand the overall amount of damage they cause by their way of consumpion. If people at least manage to focus on reduction of CO2-emission, they will also reduce the other really unhealthy consumption. So CO2 is not the danger, but a benchmark for orientation.

It's neither 'whack' or 'poorly misinformed' Gates was talking about TOTAL human CO2 emissions; a COMBINATION of industrial produced CO2 in addition to metabolic CO2. Humans exhale an average of 2 ½ -3 ½ pounds of CO2 every day…that’s roughly 1000# per year, per person - just from breathing. At 0:51 Gates says the world's poorest people produce about 1 ton of CO2. Do your homework. These poor people don't use ANY fossil fuels. The wood and/or dung they burn makes up for the other 1/2 ton.

You do realize that Bill Gates was talking about bringing industrial CO2 emissions down to zero. You know, like before the industrial revolution? I am pretty sure that plants were doing just fine before we took the CO2 in the atmosphere from 280ppm to nearly 400 ppm. (not 340ppm like you cite)

The person making this video is either poorly misinformed, or is trying to mislead you into thinking that plants will die if we stop burning fossil fuels. There CAN be too much of a good thing.

Gates said we need to bring HUMAN PRODUCED CO2 to zero. So...we need to shut down every oil, coal, or natural gas fired power plant, gas furnaces, ovens, and hot water heaters, ground all planes & helicopters, every boat that isn't wind, solar, or nuclear powered, and park 99% of the world’s cars and trucks. People will have to stop burning anything to cook with or stay warm. We need to stop burning the rainforests, & then we all need to stop breathing. Does that sound like a workable idea?
