And here, I thought it was just another SyFy movie, and I was going to give them credit for making what I thought was one of their better films. The creatures seemed pretty imaginative, and it kind of makes me wish that they explored more of whatever creatures evolution could have possibly came up with.

This movie sucked. The story was pretty retarded. For example, remember when they had to evacuate that time period because of a volcanic eruption? Well, stepping on that butterfly wouldn't have changed much unless that damn thing was capable of surviving a VOLCANIC ERUPTION. A BUTTERFLY!

The effects were not THAT horrible. And, yeah, it wasn't based on the book, but, it was sill a good movie.

@GLaDoSable I agree, especially with all the changes and budget cuts that were made between 2002 and 2004. If there is a remake in a couple of years, I'd like to see more incorporation of events in the book -- but I would hope that the special effects budgets would not be so vastly cut back -- because this story in either form cold have been something very wonderful. (But even this effort really did make you think on at visceral level about the meaning of existence).

Actually, something funny happened with the 80 mil. budget. A large fraction of it was used to replace and repair sets and equipment that were damaged in the floods of Prague in 2002.
