I use to have a Alk. Malamute.Loved to go for rides,but got car sick all the time.On walks,she was a 4 legged tow truck.She loved rabbits,as dinner.compleatly gave up on dog food in favor of live rabbits she would hunt in the woods around my house.

I have a Alaskan Malamute named Kaskae. He black and white. We've had him since he was 1 month old. We love him to bits. Hes so friendly and sociable. I love the breed !!! They are very big though !

@Svuru These Malamutes are great with kids 9 times out of 10 as they was originally bred to look after kids as well as pulling heavey laden sleds and hunting. I've actually never heard of a Mal who is bad with kids honestly. There is quite a few videos with Kids and Mal's here on youtube, have a look

i would really like a Malamute and have a couple of questions for you.

is there anyway possible to train it as a guard dog

does it howl at night and keep you awake

does it get fur all over the place, if so is there anyway of preventing the fur from getting everywhere, such as combing him often

are they affectionate, will he sit on the couch with you and watch tv or even sleep at the foot of your bed

how hard was he to train

i would really appreciate a response to these questions thank you

They are amazing pets but not to be taken on lightly.

Not suitable as guard dogs. They will welcome a burglar and show him where the family jewels are!

They howl but mine has never done so at night.

Meant to moult twice a year but mine sheds a lot

Very loving and will follow you everywhere but occassionly can be quite independant and will ignore you if they feel you've offended them in some way!

They are slow to train as they are stubborn but with patience they get there.

I have to partly disagree with the "welcome a burglar" part. While it's true that most malamutes do not make good guard dogs due to their friendly nature, each individual's behaviour also depends on its personality. My uncle has a malamute that is usually friendly with kids but is more timid toward adult strangers and has attacked a visitor in the neighbourhood once who climbed into the backyard from behind instead of walking around to the front. While most malamutes are friendly, some are not!!

i have 2 a one year old and a 14 week old. the males moult their coat once a year and females twice unless the females are done then it can be once. males are normally more vocal than females. they will sit next to you and sleep at the bottom of your bed but they can get u warm really quickly. They can be easy to train i taught the 14 weeks sit and paw in 4 days.

Alaskan malamutes dont tend to make good guard dogs.

they are usually very quiet dog and will normaly only howl when they want to play or if they feel they are on there own.

they moult twice a year but it can be more depending on the heat..you should groom them every week. and everyday when in moulting season

they are very affectionate dog. but once fully grown are big so dont hink you'd want it to sit on couch with you.

they are a disobedient breed so you have

@mattgeb84 They are not an "active" guard dog, HOWEVER they do have a "look" that puts a would be intruder off! They certainly do blow their undercoat twice a year with CONSTANT hoovering and brushing. They indeed are affectionate and will gladly sit with you BUT you must keep in mind YOU are the ALPHA they are incredibly strong willed (especially the dogs) and VERY intelligent! Because of this they are easy to train so long as you maintain ALPHA. Exercise is a MUST! Have a look at our LuiLui

i have a siberian husky, I have akc registration, but mine is a very large husky, mine weights 82lbs. very lean and athletic though,he is very large compared to other huskies, his parents are not as big as him. I fed him large breed food as a puppy because I also owned a st. bernard, i don't know if that's why he is so big!

Pero hay una cosa que está mal... el nombre de la raza es "Alaskan Malamute". También se permite el nombre alternativo "Malamute de Alaska" aunque se suele utilizar más en iberoamérica.

No te falta razón y estuve dudando, pero si si lo buscas en el google, por ejem., vienen de las dos formas, pero es evidente que el nombre correcto es de "Alaskan Malamute".
