one scratch or lick from that cat to your cockatiel can kill your bird. Cat and dogs carry a deadly bacteria that kills birds. Please be careful and do research on what I just told you.
@pinayho In case you didn't research (you might be too busy responding with "ignorant" remarks to people that are trying to educate you on pet safety.) Here's your lesson for the day......Cats and Dogs both carry a bacteria in their saliva called Pasteurella that can be deadly for a bird. Birds can die very quickly, as quickly as 24 hours if they come in contact to this bacteria. ALWAYS wash your hands before handling your birds.
Absolutely, I'm surprised that many people do not know this. In fact, human saliva isn't good for them as well, and people should refrain from letting their bird eat from their mouth. Thankfully, my cat has little instinct....he sits with them on the road (we travel by RV). However, I am right there too, as you never know with a kitty;-)
I kiss my bird regularly sometimes with saliva and it has no effect and its been many years. Off course i am not going to spit on it or feed it my spit lol
Why not just ban people from kissing their pets? Off course when you kiss your pets there is a chance of tranferring saliva.....didn't you know that dumb ass?
I don't spit on my birds or intentinally make sure my spit touches them. It happens sometimes
I kiss my bird and one time when I was injured, it waddled over and put it's head in my mouth. It started chewing the insides of my cheeks. But it still remains unaffected.
@MetroStation329 He won't listen! Read the remarks he said to me. Thanks for posting this and to Saturnine as well. Hopefully with more than one person advising him not to let cats and birds play together that he might just listen.
lovely video! I wonder if now it is a boy or a girl? On that video it was yet a very small baby, I remember my cockatiel could not even fly properly when we brought her home!
Are you sure that is a boy? From everything I've heard about cockatiels...looks like you have a girl. The darker gray face and the bars on the underside of the tail feathers usually indicate it is a girl. At any rate, beautiful bird.
and its just the basic understanding... you dont really know the sex unless you have a blood tests.. thoese are just some things that can help. but good research!
I'm surprised that he isn't changing your tv channels, all my pets do that and they turn the volume up, we're runny round the lounge with our hands over our ears trying to find the remote.
Cute Cockatiel! Mine was actually laughing watching this.

Don't be ignorant. Birds carry diseases - heard of avian flu? You're a dipshit.

@Tiels40 That is GREAT to know. I'm rounding up all the dogs and cats to salivate all over the dumb ass birds in the neighborhood!
BTW, smartass...the bacteria in their saliva rarely carries a threat to any animal.
you look like a pompous idiot trying to educate people.

You know, the bacteria from a cats paws and mouth can kill a bird within 48 hours... so i suggest you keep that cat away from him... just fyi.

That is true for adults, but not when they are still juvenile birds.
