Yes, it has deteriorated quickly. However, wonderful things are starting to happen with the Roundhouse and hopefully we will see it being turned around (so to speak) in the future.
Actually, NS is helping in the efforts to save the roundhouse. It is some of the city officials that want to see it gone. They don't have any vision and just see an abandoned buildings falling apart.
Imagine NKP railroad days being held here. There would be in attendence all surving NKP berks and mikes, if possible. 765 and 779 would be there as would any Diesles.
Sad in deed. But not too far gone to be saved. The real sadness will be if we let this get demolished. It can be saved if only our community would realize it's potential.

The city seems more concerned with the brownfields and petroleums contamination than with saving the building.
One report showed oils seeping as low as 14 ft. deep in to soil.

@tcrlaf
What report would that be? As far as I know, no body had done any testing on the site as of yet. If so, who paid to have the testing done?

Pippenger's 2007 Report on the Brass Foundry.. Youtube deleted the link I posted

This report is inaccurate and misleading to say the least. It is meant to turn public opinion against the Roundhouse.

Is the Nickel Plate Road historical society doing anything? Is this the most important reminaing "artifact" on what's left of the NKP system?

I was with my Father there in 74 or 75, I saw a engine get a spin on the turn table. So sad to see it dead now
