The best thing about this now, is that the drummer of the band gets turned into an animated version of Clarke Duke from the movie "Sex Drive" and "Hot Tub Time Machine",...LOL...
THIS WAS MY FAV cartoon as a kid!!! No one ever knows what the heck I am talking about when I describe it! I knew I wasn't crazy! I remembered the song and kids and all.
It's a little known fact during it's original run, cocaine fumes would sometimes filter all the way through the tv set into your living room. I accidentally got high three times from the indirect effects while watching this as a kid.
Wow, from back in the Olden Days when M-tv actually played music videos! When I was a kid there was a live-action show just like this: "The Monkees."
fslayer1290 is correct: "Kidd Video" : the music industry :: "Network" : the television industry (but...I double dawg dare you to get that theme song out of your head!)
It's like they took everything awful about the 80's and distilled it into a concentrate of pure pot and coke fueled evil *lol*
Barely remember this show... my mind must have blissfully hid it from my conscious mind. I seem to remember that they had these horrible lip-syncing live-action music videos randomly strewn throughout the cartoon.
I had been trying, for years, to remember what the name of this show was.
This was obviously a metaphor for a record executive/producer trying to control the free-thinking of musicians.
I just realized that the one with the glasses was Robbie Rist. He was in the movie "Iron Eagle" around the same time as this. As a kid, he played Cousin Oliver on the Brady Bunch. He's still a musician but also does voice work.
@TheKrackerJap Because he digs New Wave. That's why he sometimes uses 'The Spirit of Radio' as bumper music. Of course someone whose real name is "Rush" would be a Rush fan.
I don't know how you made it up to here but I could only remember the music. I tried searching for "80s cartoon rock band" which led me to a website where a guy was wondering whether he "dreamed" this cartoon or it really existed. Then, somebody would say "Aren't you talking about... Kidd Video?". Gotta love Internet! haha
Anyone know what kind of truck that yellow truck is? I'm gonna guess a Datsun, but that's a guess, it's probably something else. It's funny that when you see this now, you've got a little bit of this stuck back in the back of your head, and you're like, Wow, where did the time go?!! The 80's ( for me ) went by WAY too fast! It's like, i didn't even get a chance to be a kid, and now i'm 30 years old. Life's no fair! I should be still "driving" my KITT pedal car around. If i had a time machine..
this brings back some long forgotten memories... the only things I remember were those cats fooling around with invisible paint in that one episode...
MTV and new wave....for kids! This is exactly what made it okay to use drugs and be as gay as possible. Don't even try posting anything that says otherwise. Do kids today have anything nearly this awesome? Man, that Master Blaster was a mean guy, that mean guy laugh gives him right away, but the cat henchmen on drugs were cool.
@WestHollywoodWarrior "be as gay as possible?" :)) LOL! Ain't nothing gay about the 80s .... Gayness need to go back underground like it was in the 80s. ... dam dem gays!
omg,,, isnt it weird when you havent heard or even thought of something for almost 25 years...but 10 seconds in youre singing along with it? i love nostalgia. ty toolbot. maybe my boys will be saying the same thing about big time rush in 20 years.
Oh my god... It must have been 25 years since I last saw or heard this... I had all but forgotten it until I heard the famous, "From my video to my radio!" hook... Holy nostalgia. I must have been 4 years old when this song filled me with life... And now, it still penetrates the bleak mantle of depression that adulthood has brought. What I would give to go back to those bygone times... So beautiful...
@cdman882 he was also the voice of Michaelangelo in the first live action TMNT movies. also Kevin Nash, the voice of the main villain here, was the voice of Splinter in the original TMNT cartoon.
This was, hands down, the single most 80's-tastic kids show. It completely doesn't translate to any generation before or since. The clothes, the music, the lingo, the trippyness. It was a lot of fun back in the day, but no kids today would get this at all.
@jdtwk123 Yeah. Except Master Blaster. A fat, greedy, heartless, evil corporate executive out to enslave people for greed and power is still pretty contemporary.

Here's something I was wondering about for some strange reason: assuming Earth isn't aware of the existence of the Flipside, and that, as per the time KV was cancelled, they never made it out of there, what do you think would have become of their "story" by now, 27 years later? Would they just be presumed dead? Woul...d their legend just grow over the decades, and would there be many E!THS's and such based on the mystery? What?
Wow...haven't seen this since the 80s...talk about a flashback!!! Thank you so much for posting...brings you right back and then some. Definitely was a helluva time to be a kid. :)
Ahh, what memories! Glad I was a Gen X'er. Growing up in the 80's. Deffintely an 80's cartoon. Note the fairy who rescued them was wearing leg warmers. LEG WARMERS! A FAIRY wearing LEG WARMERS!! Just what kind of fairy wears leg warmers?! LOL. Well, I also miss Punky Brewster, Shirt tails, and Saturday Supercade!
@Timbrock1000 A fairy in leg warmers sounds strange until you account that she lived in a land talking rock n roll playing cats, immortal teenagers made out of neon lights, a rapping sphinx, and flying jukeboxes that doubled as battled ships. Then it makes perfect sense. Well not really. Unless maybe you're Jack Black.
Excellent cartoon! It is the essence of the 1980's, when we still had great cars, real fast food, awesome music, and fantastic Saturday morning cartoons!
@Dragonrider3458 very true saturday cartoons were the best. kidd video, real ghostbusters, gummi bears, muppet babies, pond puppies, smurfs, i can go on and on. loved kidd video, had the biggest crush on carla. lol

The plot involved as far as I Know that the good guys and bad guys had to race in order to win the battle. & that hundreds of years ago a female warrior who had this sword trapped in a huge crystal this evil queen who is the leader of the bad guys. So the the queens 2nd in command ever since has been trying to free her. A friend of mine named planetgreen82 told about it & I thought it was cool. If you know anything contact me.
what memories. when i think of waking up on saturday mornings with my big bowl of count chocula cereal on those chilly mornings. KV is one of the main cartoons i remember. It was awesome, they could really sing. And i was madly in LOVE with Carla, i was 7 years old.
Anyone ever pick up on how well this show inadvertently depicts the current state of the music industry? You have the evil corporate CEO guy with the Type O Negative voice enslaving the band (i.e. major labels holding naive musicians hostage through bogus contractual obligations), while the Copy Cats reap the benefits and go destroy the airwaves. Truly brilliant, and also way ahead of its time you know? The best Sat. morning cartoon we will never see on DVD (copyright issues I assume...).
Sad to admit it, but this was one of my fav shows growing up. Im 37 now but this takes me back instantly! Would gladly pay 20.00 to 30.00 bucks for a two season box set of cheesy goodness!!
And if anybody really has all the eps on vhs then why not convert them and share?? spread the love of big hair around.
OH MY FREAKING GOD!!!! THIS HAS TO BE MY FAVORITE MEMORY OF THE 80'S I used to get up every saturday just to see this one show and i wish they would put this on DVD
She's not Hispanic unless they have her saying "I-yi-yi?" Charo ruined it for everybody.

Saturday mornings made you proud to be young man. The rest of the world was going down, but saturday morning cartoons held the fort, man I loved it.

My absolute favorite cartoon of my childhood. This was truly the golden age of Saturday morning cartoons. Kids now just don't realize.

This is my favorite cartoon, too. Here in Guayaquil, it was broadcasted in 1990, on Channel 10, every Saturday at 9 AM

I think the part of this that everyone knows and can quote is "Yi Yi Yi, we look like..." "cartoons"
Ah, 80s racial insensitivity in cartoons.
Still dug this show as a kid
