Awesome! Thanks, just now discovering this great singer who WROTE many songs I perform. The add-on verses are hilarious, wonder if I can get the bar to fire a blender at just the right time. Maybe he didn't write the short "black cat" verse?
He just pronounces "for golf" od-school, and a little like a Good Fella, 'fagoffaboutit"
His own song and NOBODY did it better then him... not Sinatra, nor Clooney or anyone. Not to mention that his is the only complete version of it on YouTube, folks!
And what a honey well perfectly modulated voice, virtuoso pianistic accompaniment, just a brilliant performer, undeservedly overlooked and forgotten. Nobody even comes close to him today.
if you would like to go out and see some "real"music, you would have to find an artist bar where there is an open stage,.. we have a few of them in holland and its a joy everytime i go
Like his contemporaries Bobby Troup and Julie London, Matt Dennis leaves behind many great memories. Like Troup, he leaves behind many compositions, too numerous to post here.
I wonder how many verses were written for this song? Sinatra did 2 versions of this song, neither version had the same set of lyrics, and the lyrics Matt is singing here aren't in either of those versions! That mean there's at least 3 different sets of lyrics for this song.
Sinatra only wishes he could bring it like this!

Sounds like "I can make a date F* Off ....", which I thought was amusing, though undeliberate perhaps.
Nice.

He reminds me a lot of Bobby Short. Humor, style, great pianism and complete ease. Great discovery for me. Thanks for posting!

I saw him live in NYC late 60's. Didn't he also write Mountain Greenery? Fantastic writer and singer both!
