and is a violation of the federal HIPPA law...I have contacted GLBT about this fact and they have not responded...I have even contacted the ACLU in reference to a hate crime that was commited against me in a hostpital ...but am finding it rather sadly humorus that all these groups that are supposed to protect LGBT and civil rights have their hands out wanting donations but when it comes down to the nitty gritty they are no help whatsoever...
I love how you completely shredded HBSOC...LOL...I cannot stand it man....You would think that being trans would be protected under HIPPA law...like for the fact that when receiving a court ordered name change you have to place an ad in a local news paper stating your old name and new name....that blows...and is a violation of the federal HIPPA law...continued....
What is the informed consent method? I'm looking at T and I have a counselor but Idk if she's a LPC. Can anyone help me answer on how I am to go about this. I have 5 months of counseling and my counselor hasn't dealt with transsexuals before. HELP??? btw I am MTF (can't figure out how to change profile name on Youtube)

At my clinic I just had to see a psychotherapist one time. She asked me some questions to make sure I wasn't crazy I did my bloodwork and about two weeks later I got my T prescription.
I totally just watched your intro video since you mentioned it - love the voice, he he he. Are you going to the Philly Trans Health Conference in June?
The Harry Benjamin Standards of care were done soo many years ago I really dont think many if any Drs follow them anymore thank god.I know over here weather ftm or mtf you can get hormones & T at a first Drs visit, no living fulltime I think there very very outdated.
..when people are always gonna at the back of their heads think im a girl, im not gonna be able to live the typical male life because it wont be accepted. i plan on being stealth at the end of the day, like any bio male would do, i dont see my brother going around telling people hes a girl! i thought we were meant to be living full time as male, not as a freak to those ignorant people who do exist everywhere!! ridiculous.
i read up on those guidelines a while ago, im not sure if it applies here in the uk but we have something similar if not the same, the letter from your teacher/employer to say youre living full time in preferred gender role is ridiculous, if like me youre going to school at 18 which a bunch of immature, narrow minded 16 year olds do you want people to know youre ftm? no, i want my time to be easy and not be 'bullied' for what people dont understand. how can i be seen as a man ..
Also: you have to have your gonads removed to get your gender and/or name changed to the opposite sex.
But I'm a savvy patient and got hormones after 3.5 months living in role with no therapy because some other transguys told me how to find a sympathetic private physician. If it hadn't been for the transcommunity, I'd a been a goner.
I realize you're not a big fan of the HBSC but... I live in a country where they would be a HUGE improvement over the current situation. Transpeople in Denmark are working really hard to get the Danish system to even adopt them b/c now the system is:
1 yr therapy with doctors who don't believe in transitioning
PLUS
2 YRS living in role
All before you can even get a name change! Hormones, surgery or anything. And MIN age of 21!
And also, did you watch the 20/20 show? They put kids on hormone blockers to prevent puberty and then in a couple years they start them on cross-hormones.
Actually, in your intro video I was amazed at how well you passed. You just seemed like a guy whose voice hadn't cracked. And anyway, some guys don't develop very deep voices.
anyone can get top surgery, i identify as genderqueer and i am not going to take hormones but i have talked to Dr. Charles Garramone's patients and they said that a T letter was not required
i'm getting top surgery in june and i identify as transgenderqueer. the surgeon uses an informed consent model (thank god) and so she doesn't require a letter from my therapist. the way it should be in my opinion. if i wanted to start taking T, however, it may be a different story, but it may also depend on the doctor. i'm sure there are endocrinologists who operate under informed consent. i think the hbsoc blow. i also know brownstein in san fran does top surgery for genderqueers. ami
the only thing i agree with out of that is the under age thing. Not all children who think they have GID end up still thinking they have it years later.
But most of that stuff is complete BULL! What needs to happen is someone who IS trans needs to get involved in this rule stuff, most no one else *really* understands.
The problem with that is you really do need an objective medical understanding of the medical procedure, and an objective diagnosis. A trans doctor might be a bit biased :<. However, I agree that they really don't understand what we go through. How can they? They've never experienced it. As much as they can sympathize and empathize, maybe even relate, they can't *understand* what we go through and the deeply painful and scarring experience it is. So it's sort of a lose/lose for us, lol.
The International board and attendees are made up of several transgendered and transsexual folks. These rules serve the international medical model and can be modified per country, state, province. It serves to protect both the health care providers and the patinet/client.
Hey man, thanks for making a post about HBSOC. I'm currently writing a critique about them, I think they are a load of shit. The US and Canada seem to be a lot more chiled out about them, whereas here in Australia you would be really hard pressed to find a surgeon who would perform chest surgery prior to being on T for 12 months. Therapists over here follow this shit like a bible and even extend the periods of time suggested for RLT and hormones.

Also, MTFs, pre or post hormones, will likely be "identified" by others as "male" anyway because the hormones don't affect their voice pitch.

What about those of us who may only want to partially transition? i.e. just top surgery or just hormones.
Thanks for the video and i agree- load of BS the lot of it.

that is pretty much the whole transition there are alot of guys who stop at top surgery
